Miscellany Monday

One.
We had our annual Christmas picture taking session yesterday afternoon. I'm very grateful that our kids have never balked at this. It use to take a very few minutes, but with a 1 and 2 year old, that is definitely not the case now.  And, I am quite certain that our neighbors wondered what in the world all the noise was about over here in our yard.  Whoever wasn't in the picture was busy trying to make the babies smile and it's amazing what we did. ~smile~ Of course, when we took all 8 of us, there was no one to work with the babies.  Tripods don't have a lot to say, they just hold the camera and snap away whether or not your smiling or looking ~laugh~

Speaking of Christmas, I am 75% done with my Christmas shopping. And, 75% of it has been done via the internet. I know folks have varying opinions of internet shopping, but for me, it's the greatest thing since sliced bread.

I went around moving all our clocks back an hour on Sat. afternoon.  I had recently bought a new clock radio for my bedside table and I completely forgot that it was a self setting clock.  So, when I turned over this morning and saw that the clock said 5:00 AM I just laid there and enjoyed some more of the warm bed.  Hubby got up and I thought that was so strange that he would get up at that time since I knew he wasn't going hunting. ~wink~  Next time I looked at the clock it was 6:05AM.  So, I got up, went to get my coffee and Hubby said he was a little concerned because I stayed in bed so much later than normal.  I didn't pay him much mind and took my good sweet time getting ready for  church and piddled around.  My eye finally caught another clock in the house and it said 8:20.  I thought that it had to be impossible that I had been up for 2 hours 15 minutes.  Then it dawned on me what had happened. My bedside clock had been moved back 2 hours, one hour by me and the other by the automated setting.  I leave for church at 8:30 and I wasn't even dressed, so I had to get it in "high gear."  But, I'll be sure and remember that little feature when it's time to "spring forward."

I love my new Lenova Thinkpad! And, the Homegroup feature is the coolest!  Since both my desktop and laptop have Windows 7 I can view and work on the documents and pictures that are on my desktop from my laptop through the wireless connection.  Totally amazing and so convenient!

I need some help from some of you photo editing guru's.  I am a picture taking fanatic and need to know what is the best photo editing software for the novice. I think I'm ready to move beyond Picasa but I don't know what to move to next.  I've learned a lot but have tons more to learn and I figure some of you gals can offer me some advice.  Thanks! Also, how do you get your watermark on the photos? I'm assuming that is done through some of the photo editing software.

My heart was so blessed this morning in our worship service. We had a young missionary to Malaysia speak to us about his ministry there.  It is a predominantly Muslim country and he and his precious wife have such a love for these people and such a desire to bring them to a saving knowledge of Jesus Christ.  Yes, I was blessed and convicted to be burdened for those that I can be a missionary to.

I have got to nail down our plans for Thanksgiving. I  think that, for the first time, I will ask my daughter and daughter in law to each bring a dish.  They will neither one mind and it will make it easier on me.  I think we will only have our children, their spouses and my Dad and step Mom this year. Of course, the babies will be here but they certainly don't consume much.  If I have calculated correctly, Thanksgiving Day is two weeks from this Thursday. Oh, my goodness, I'd better get it in gear!
To check out more Miscellany Monday's, go pay Carissa a visit. She is our host each Monday and we love her for it. A beautiful week to each of you!

  2. Just stopping by for a Monday visit. Those family photo sessions are a challenge, aren't they? We try to get one a year, too.
I can't believe that Thanksgiving is less than 3 weeks away. I let "my girls" bring a dish, as well..it helps out a lot!
    Have a great Monday,

  4. We don't have to worry about Thanksgiving plans this year...we will be spending it with Chef Mickey at DisneyWorld.

Love the clock story. We just got a new alarm clock, Chris has been out of town, and I had no idea how to set the time. I decided, after messing with it FOREVER to just set my phone alarm and be done with it. Well, at midnight, Brooks' (who was also out of town) alarm started going off so I went downstairs and turned it off. At 4:00 a.m., our alarm went off...apparently I had turned it back on with all my messing with the time. At 5:20, Brooks' second alarm clock went off. Needless to say...I was up far before my phone alarm ever thought about going off.

    Have a great week!

  5. I do 99% of my photo editing in picasa and picnik. Picnik is a good choice for a step up from picasa because it has some creative alternatives that picasa doesn't have. The basic version is free on the web and you just upload your picture edit and save it to your computer. You can spend just a few bucks a month and get access to their premium version. If you want to get more creative and have more options, you will want to spend the money on photoshop or photoshop elements. I have it, but rarely use it because I don't have much time to sit down and learn it and some of it can be complicated. I'd rather spend my time learning how to take better pictures, but I do hope to get proficient with it someday. Anyway, you might give picnik a try.

  8. I have to say that I have it easy for Thanksgiving. This year, we are staying in town, as Craig has to work on Friday. However, we are getting together with some friends. Both my husband and his friend love to cook! I will have to cook nothing! All I have to do is clean! Yippee!

  10. I've missed linking up for two weeks now! Hopefully next week. I can imagine the fun your picture taking episode was! And 75% of your shopping done? Wow, you are my hero! Funny clock story! I will be cooking Thanksgiving dinner this year and better get my rear in gear!

  11. Thanks for your randomness. About the photo editing. I have heard of photoshop but it's expensive. I started using picnik.com and I like it. Try it out and see what you think. It's free or you can upgrade too.

    Have a blessed week!
