Wednesday Hodgepodge

1.Which do you prefer-pretty gift wrap with a bow or a pretty gift bag with/without a bow?  What percentage of your holiday gifts are currently (as in right this very minute) wrapped in some form or fashion?
Well, I prefer a beautifully wrapped gift with embellishments of bows and ribbon to co-ordinate with the paper.  I'm all into packaging!  I use to have a gift packaging business, aptly named, "It's A Wrap" and I did ordinary wrapping or created baskets, boxes or you name it with flair.  It was such fun but almost all consuming at this time of year.  I "retired" from it 4 years ago.  Anyway, back to my answer...........all the gifts I have bought are wrapped and ready and I'm pretty much through, guess I still have a couple to get.  But, I must confess, they are all wrapped in pretty paper to match my tree but I'm not sure that they will be embellished in high fashion.  We shall see...........

2.  What is one item on your Christmas list this year?
I truly cannot think of one thing to ask for.  Hubby and I were just talking about this very thing this morning as I was on my way out the door to get the final crown on my tooth implant.  As I closed the door, with a chuckle he said, "Merry Christmas."  Well, I think it would qualify as a very nice Christmas present.  It took 8 months to complete and cost a whopping $4000 and you can't get much more personal than a tooth implant can you?  ~big laugh~

3.  What makes a home?

The folks that live in the house and the love and the memories they have made and continue to make together make a home.  I've been blessed to live in homes where a lot of love and memories have been shared all of my 60 years.

4.  Motown founder Berry Gordy celebrates his birthday on Hodgepodge Day-November 28th. Are you a fan of the Motown sound?  If so, who's your favorite Motown artist and/or song? Here's a list in case you're stuck.
Oh,my goodness, I love, love Motown.  It just doesn't get much better than The Temptations singing "My Girl" and The Supremes singing "Baby Love."  I grew up on these songs and still know every word of them.

5.  Red or green-which one is more prevalent in your closet?
Definitely red!  I do best in a "tomato red" and while I like green, I prefer sage green, and it is a most difficult color to find.  I can carry off a Christmas red but I do NOT wear Christmas green at all.

6.  True or false-bacon makes it better? If you answered true, what's your favorite dish made with bacon?

TRUE!! Bacon makes anything better as far as I'm concerned!  And, I love that it now comes precooked and all you have to do is zap it in the microwave a few seconds and dig in.  Well, the first dish that comes to mind, is a chicken dish (I can't recall the name right now).  It's chicken breasts wrapped in strips of bacon and then lots of creamy goodness poured over them and baked.  It's amazing!

7.  Share a favorite holiday memory.
Most of you know that I have a brother that is 12 1/2 years younger than me.  When he was born I just knew that my Mom had had him for me.  I was definitely his second Momma.  When he was about 2 years (I was 14) old he started sleeping with me every Christmas Eve and it was the sweetest time.  He was beside himself with excitement awaiting Santa and it was my job to make sure I kept him in bed while Santa did his magic under the Christmas tree. It is indeed a favorite holiday memory!

8.  Insert your own random thought here.

Do you see this?  Yep, that's our famed Labs, Rosco and Rhett laying in our foyer last night.  And, you do know that I'm of the opinion that inside a house is NO place for large dogs. They belong outside!!  Well, last night they kept looking in the side windows by the front door, practically begging to come in.  Then Hubby starts whinning to me about how they needed to come in for a little while and lay on their pillow beds.  It just so happens that Hubby had some brand new pillow beds in his shop that he had not yet placed in their ultra nice kennel.  So, I reluctantly agreed that they could come in and lay on those nice clean, never been used, pillow beds for a little while.  They only had to walk about 8-10 steps inside the front door to get to the beds and that's what they did and in no time, they were fast asleep and snoring.  Mercy me! Hubby was in hog heaven and  is just sure that they are their happiest when they are near him. What can I say???

Thanks Joyce for another great week of HP questions! These were some of my favorite.

  1. I am glad your tooth is completed. Those are precious memories of your baby brother and you. I think I lean towards your opinion with the dogs but they are so cute I don't think I could resist!

  2. Good morning! I am always so amazed when I read one of these hodgepodge things at how much we really have in common. ; ) First, how fun the wrapping business would have been. I too LOVE a beautifully coordinated package. And then, certainly agree with number 3, and Motown music was probably my favorite growing up...I LOVED it. And while I am not a big fan of bacon on everything, I do love the way it comes pre-cooked now, and therefore use it more often then I use to. I am with you on the big dog theory too, and the conversation you had with your hubby, could have been mine and his. AND! One of my favorite childhood memories was sleeping with my brothers and sisters on Christmas Eve. Though we were all close in age (except when the youngest two came along, and I never did it with them) and we had great fun "sneaking down" to the livingroom to see what Santa had brought. Sweet memories and fun times. Enjoy your day!

  3. Wow...$4000 for a tooth implant! I had no idea they cost that much! It is platinum? ;) Your dogs are precious! They look like they are right at home all snuggled in their beds. Hmm...could this be the start of something new? Your hubby is probably crossing his fingers real tight!

  4. Oh, I just love the puppy picture! I'm also of the opinion that large dogs belong outside (our Airedale with his whip-like tail disagrees with me, but given that he clears tables like Marmaduke, I'm afraid I won that argument. ;) ). But how sweet they look snoozing right there!

  5. You crack me up..."can't get much more personal than a tooth implant." I have to get one very soon. Love your sweet big dogs and I am sure your man is right about them being happiest near him. They know who loves them most--which is why my two have a theme song they sing to me in body language. It's "Close to You." Too bad they are usually as close as the seams of my pant legs.

  6. I had to laugh at your comment about your implant ($4,000???? Yikes! All the more reason to hang on to my own teeth for as long as possible!!!!)

I'd have to disagree with you on dogs belonging outside. But then our dogs have always been pets, not working dogs. ;-)

I forgot to mention the Supremes, but oh how I loved them, too!

  7. My dog has a pillow bed on the floor of our bedroom (where she sleeps) and also in the office downstairs. She has another bed in the garage...she's big and when her feet are wet we send her to the garage. Your dogs are so cute! How can you not let them in? : )

  8. Love the dog pictures. And I am in awe of anyone who could create all those beautiful packages. I try but never quite get there all the way.

  9. Good to finally finish with all of the dental work. I loved your story about your brother. My sister is 9 years younger than I am and she considers me her 2nd mother as well.

  10. Lea, its called "Chicken Breasts in Sour Cream" and is also my favorite chicken dish. Ouch! That's a nice tooth present Tommy is giving you! Dick and I always give each other a trip to Indiana and children/grand presents for Christmas. That's enough for us! I plan to finish my little shopping and wrapping next week in time to put everything in the car. Love the dog story. I'm thinking there may more to come.

  11. I wish my parents old hound dog could come inside where it's warm. Alas she sheds so much my dad has to vacuum out the garage a few times a week! But the garage is much warmer than outside and she has not one, but TWO beds to sleep on for her old bones. Plus we do go out to the garage quite a bit so she gets loved each time we're out there.

  12. What a fun bunch of things to talk about, except, of course, the dental bill! Yikes!! Isn't it awful? Tie a nice red bow around your head and consider it done! :)
