Miscellany Monday

We only have today and 4 more Mondays left in 2012. Wow! 2013 will be here before we can blink.  Aren't we glad that Carissa is always here on Monday to host our randomness.  Thanks Carissa, you are the bomb!!!

My Magical Fairy............

For many, many years this young lady has been coming to my aid.  Angela is like a "girl Friday", there's nothing that she can't do.  She always decorates our Christmas tree here at the house and the one at Hubby's office.  She has such decorating flair and I love just sitting back and watching her work her magic. I've known her since she was a mere child and now she's all grown up with a daughter in college.  I'm trying to convince her that a part of her job needs to be taking down the tree as well.  She hasn't agreed to that yet. ~grin~  Now, that I've gone to a 4' tree placed on a round decorator table, her job has gotten much easier, but she makes that little tree just come alive when she's through with it. Yea!

As a child..........

I have the most vivid childhood memories of these little fellas.  Oh, my goodness, Alvin and the Chipmunks were my very favorite and I knew every song they sung by heart.  We did not have a TV until I was 8 years old (can you believe that) so I listened to the radio and played records a lot.  I had all the  45 rpm Chipmunk records and would sing to my hearts content in my Christmas excitement.  Remembering that brings a smile to my face.

Major changes..........

About 4 years ago our little town lost the one business that had been making us "tick" for many a year.  International Paper made the decision to close the plant they had here in Bastrop.  Not only was our city forever changed, but the lives of many of the people who live here.  IP has been slowly tearing down the plant over the past 4 years and this past Saturday morning the largest part of the mill was imploded.  It rattled the windows of almost every resident as it crumbled down and the sadness of the closing was relived once again.  But, as in all things, life does go on, maybe not in the same way, but it does go on.

Small town America.........
Hubby and I joined our son, DIL and Hanna Beth for the annual Christmas parade this past Saturday evening.  Hanna Beth didn't care that there wasn't a whole lot to it.   Through her little eyes it was was exciting as The Macy's parade. ~grin~  It made the whole event worth while just to watch her.    Don't Hubby and I look all festive with our Santa blanket? ~big laugh~

A Little Christmas Magic..........

Let me introduce you to Clifford and Maya!  Two years ago I gave Clancy and Hanna Beth, the Elf on the Shelf.  Of course, they were much to young to get "into" it at that time, but such is not the case this year.  Their Moms brought them out on Saturday and both of them are beside themselves with excitement over their elf.  As you can see Clifford got into the flour Saturday night and wrote Clancy's name in the flour and Maya appeared for the first time hanging in the tree and  brought Hanna Beth the cute pair of PJ's she is wearing.  Oh, the magic of Christmas with these little ones.  Both of them are certainly being taught the real reason for Christmas but there is room for a little magic amidst the serious. ~at least in my opinion~

  1. I want a Christmas tree fairy like yours! Can you put in a good word for me? ;) Love Alvin and the Chipmunks! I always wanted one of them to call my very own. Don't you just love viewing Christmas through the eyes of little ones? Nothing better!

  2. Did you realize you skipped a whole year? I laughed when I realized you have me turning 70 next year. Please go back and give me one more year before that happens. Giggle! I so remember those days years ago of bundling up and watching the parade from the lawn in front of the church. It was such a big deal for the kids. Great memories!

  3. Oh I NEED a tree fairy too! haha. I just said that to hubby when we finished putting ours up on Sat. "Wonder if I could PAY someone to do this next year!" Such a job. Maybe it is time to go to the smaller tree. I think the Elf on the Shelf is such a cute idea. Enjoy your day!

  4. I actually live in a very small town too, but being a suburb of the city means there is always something to do nearby. Not a lot in our town but we do host the German market : )

I agree-there is definitely room for a little magic at Christmas time! Enjoy those little ones!

  5. I need a Christmas tree fairy more than the rest of you all -- we have a real tree, which means wrapping lights around and around and around and around. By the time I'm done with the lights, I'm too dizzy to put on the ornaments. ha! Seriously, your fairy does an absolutely terrific job -- BEAUTIFUL!!

  7. How nice to have someone do all the decorating of the tree. It looks like she does a great job. I used to enjoy the chipmunks too. We had a little black and white TV but it had only about three stations and they went off the air at certain times. My, how things have changed!

    Blessings and love,
    Debbie

  8. How sweet to have someone put up your tree and decorate it, but I love that part. I might opt for someone to take it down later...smile.
I remember listening to the chipmunks, too. Stores were closed and like Debbie's comment(above) about tv stations about have certain hours. Best memories and it seemed more simple.
