Wednesday Hodgepodge

I didn't really think I'd get to participate in the Hodgepodge this week but we reached our destination last evening (more about this later) early enough that I decided I had time.  It's my first time to do a post from my IPad, so hopefully it turns out okay.  Okay, off to answer Joyce's weekly questions........

1. It's  been said that one small positive thought in the morning can change your whole day. Do you think that's true? Do you find that an easy exercise most mornings? What's something positive you told yourself today? If you missed that boat, what's something positive you could tell yourself tomorrow?
I do think it's true.  I try to remember to say, "this is the day The Lord has made, I will rejoice and be glad in it" before my feet ever hit the floor.  There's certainly been many times that I truly didn't feel like rejoicing or being glad but it still planted a most positive thought in my mind to begin the day.

2. There will be karaoke at the next party you attend...are you in? Or will you be faking a sore throat?
I am in!  I have sung a lot in my life, solos and duets and ensembles.  So, I'm all in for the fun of karaoke.

3. January 29th is National Puzzle Day...what's something you've found puzzling recently?
The acceptance of any and all behavior by our society, certainly not just recently but all I've heard ( I did not see them) about the Grammy Awards brought it to mind in the past couple of days.  It's more than puzzling!

4.  Jigsaw, crossword, acrostic, logic, sudoku, word search...what's your favorite kind of puzzle, and when did you last work one?
When Hubby had his hip replacement about 7 years ago I spent my time with him in the hospital working Sudoku puzzles and really enjoyed it.  But, don't think I've worked any since that time.  I guess I should put a Sodoku app on my Iphone and IPad.  It's great brain exercise!

5. Recently a writer by the name of Amy Glass ruffled feathers with a post she wrote saying she looks down on young women with husbands and kids and she's not sorry. Among other things, she says women will be equal with men when we stop saying house work and real work are equally important. You can read the whole piece by clicking here.

What say you? Do you think men and women are equal in the 21st century? Why or why not?
Oh, me!   I think women have far more opportunities than they have ever had and if they are qualified, then the sky is the limit.  And the same for men!  I do think that some careers are obviously more suited for one gender or the other, but it appears that some women are bound and determined to make it in a mans world.  More power to them!   But, housework and motherhood is definitely REAL work regardless of what anyone may think or say.

6. What's a product you've noticed in the grocery store that you'd like to try, but haven't yet?
I'm sure there is something but I can't think of what it is.  Remember my brain is road weary tonight so you have to cut me some slack this week. ~big smile~

7. The author, Charles Lutwidge Dodgson (aka Lewis Carroll) was born this week in 1832 (January 27th).  Which character from his celebrated novel, Alice's Adventures in Wonderland, would you most like to meet, and why? Here's a link to a character list if you need help on this one.
I was never a big fan of Alice in Wonderland so I would not care to meet any of the characters.  Now, how about Pinocchio? ~grin~

8. Insert your own random thought here.
Hubby and I left driving for Florida yesterday. What an adventure it has been.  We drove a little over 200 miles and about 125 of those miles was on icy interstate.  Hubby wrote the book on safety and he drove 20 mph for 4 1/2 hours to our destination, Hattiesburg, Ms.  We passed many cars in the ditch and many 18 wheelers stranded.  We feel blessed to have arrived without incident.  We'll head out today when we can.  We may have some challenging weather today as well, but hopefully it will be better than yesterday.  It's Florida or bust and we can't wait for temps in the mid 70's and 80's.

  4. Haven't played Sudoku in a few years, but I LOVED it. I just love puzzles in general I guess. Drive safely now to Florida, and then bask in the warm sun...

I was afraid I'd be the only one who doesn't care for Alice in Wonderland, but I am not I see, lol

  5. Oh my word, the south and bad weather do not a good combo make! My daughter teaches in SC, and they were dismissed at 10:45 before any bad weather arrived. At first she thought it was over reaction, but after seeing Atlanta's nightmare, is so thankful she got home with no issues. One of my good friends spent the night in her car on the highway in Atlanta, along with thousands of others. They really need to re-think their inclement weather plans! Glad you are safe...enjoy Florida when you get there!

  6. Lea...Chris still has not made it home. He was driving home last night from KY. and got stranded about 40 miles from here on an icy hill. Stayed the night in a local neighborhood clubhouse, but can't get his truck moved. Hoping to be home before the sun goes down...time will tell.

  8. So glad you made it to your resting place last evening, praying for traveling mercies as you travel to Florida. I enjoyed reading your Wednesday Hodepodge, I am a puzzle person and love Sudoku, and admit to cheating a little. ~smile~
Like you don't understand the irresponsible behavior of those who are well known from actors, singers and politicians! Enjoy your trip.
    Blessings,
    Sue

  10. I I hope your travels went well, the south was really hit hard. Everything closed down at noon here on Tuesday before we even had a flake of snow but considering what happened in Alabama and Atlanta I think they made a wise choice. Enjoy Florida
