A Bit of This and That

Look out Yeti.......
It appears that Yeti is getting all kinds of competition on all fronts.  These Ozark Trail stainless steel tumblers can be found at Wal-Mart for about 1/4 the cost of the Yeti and they keep your drink cold just as long as the Yeti.  They look identical as well.  Add some type of monogram or graphic and you've got yourself a good looking tumbler to keep your favorite drink in.  Our Wal-Mart cannot keep these in stock.  I do hope Yeti has a new game plan to stay afloat. ~just sayin'~

It's about time......
I was plum excited when I ran across this at the grocery store the other day.  I mean, why in the world didn't someone think of this sooner.  Yes, I know, you can just break your spaghetti in half when you cook it, but how much neater is this.  And, I love the name, Pot-Perfect!  I used it this week to make the fabulous Million Dollar Spaghetti.  If you have never heard of this  or if you have never made it, then, my friend, you must! You can find the recipe by clicking on the recipe tab at the top of my blog.  A great dish for a crowd!

The little touches continue..........

Just when I thought I was pretty much through with decorating our new house I see something else that could use a little pizazz.  The key drops in our back entry each have a small cabinet with a space above the cabinet.  It's about a 25" high space so there's plenty of room to put some things.  I did this above  Hubby's key drop and the one below over mine.

I am very pleased with the look and I know that you are suppose to decorate in odd numbers, or I know that someone said you were.  But, I ignored that rule in this case and went with two items.  Who's counting anyway? ~chuckle~
I've been collecting a few inspirational scriptures and quotes for my laundry room and love what I have found so far.  Both  the key drops and the laundry room are certainly not dominate rooms in our home but I see both of them everyday and I wanted just a touch of decor for both.  And, that's really all that matters isn't it?

The My Pillow.......

Okay, I am almost certain that everyone reading this has likely seen the  My Pillow ad that shows about every other TV commercial in the evenings.  I wanted some new pillows for our master bed and decided that I would "give them a whirl."  They really were not more expensive than really nice pillows at other outlets.  Imagine my surprise when they arrive in this small roll and they are king sized pillows.  Once I opened them they did fluff out some but then you are instructed to place them in the dryer for 15 minutes for them to reach their full plumpness.  You order according to your body size and the type of sleeper you are (side, back, stomach, multiple positions).  We have only had them a couple of nights and I would say that we are not overly impressed. But, we'll give them another few days before passing final judgement.  Now, let's all sing the My Pillow jingle together. ~laugh~

A beautiful heirloom.......
Back in 1962 my Daddy bought himself a gold Acutron watch (the face is solid gold and the band is 18K gold filled).  The watch has been in safe keeping for many, many years.  A few months ago Daddy pulled it out of a box he had in his room and asked me if I would like to have it and wear it.  I did not want to wear it as a watch and neither did either of my brothers.  So, the wheels begin to turn and I carried it down to a jewelry designer that has done other design work for me.  What you see above is the result of his work.  He removed the workings, made a white gold plate to go in the space and put my initial on it.  Then added the diamond bezel and "wa-la" I now have a beautiful bracelet and the best part it is an heirloom.  My Dad is so glad that his watch is now being enjoyed and will be for years to come.

  1. Oh yes...so glad some competition for YETI, my sons are YETI crazy and I just can't justify a cooler costing 100s and 100s of dollars, more less for a drink. Now I must say, one son works outside and he does enjoy his drink being kept cold, but seriously, most aren't out in the sun, nor take two days to finish a drink.

Love the decorating!! Love your Dad's watch...fun post!

  2. My husband got me a My Pillow for Christmas. It has helped me not to have neck/back pains in the mornings.

I've heard the Walmarts can't keep the cups in stock. I have not seen them at ours. I wondered if they are all the same.

Your spaghetti reminded me to add this to my Walmart order (does your Walmart do the grocery pick up? It has just started here and so helpful to me). My Mom had that spaghetti and the first time I saw it it made me laugh for some reason!

  3. The watch re-design is beautiful! And I think you can get away with the 2 decor items atop the key drops. Not enough space for anything more and it looks really great just as you have it.

    Happy Weekend!

  4. I have not seen this spaghetti yet. I usually make a big mess when I "break" the noodles in half! Your decorating touches are very nice; it is important to visually enjoy the spaces you see everyday! We have just moved and I look forward to being able to add special touches when the "hard" part is done! lol Your new jewelry from your dad's watch is perfect. A real treasure. Have a lovely weekend.

Thanks for the tip on the cup and the MyPillow... I have been thinking about getting one! SO, update if your review changes! Have a blessed day, HUGS!

  6. We love our My Pillows; you need to shape them to your needs. Use your hands to bunch and push and arrange until it's comfortable for you. That's what they taught us when we picked ours up!
I read every blog post of yours and enjoy it, thanks for writing. =)

  7. Hi Lea, I have seen Yeti, because they compete with Hydro Flask-but haven't heard of the brand you mentioned. I have to say I love all your signs and the cross with the wheat looks perfect.
Hope you have a great day!
