Monday Musings

Happy Labor Day!  Labor Day sort of marks the end of summer, although the first official day of fall isn't until Sept. 22nd.  It was actually 68 degrees here this past Friday morning and that had me really excited about the approaching fall season.  I love fall!

I added another touch of decor and wanted to share it with you.~aren't you excited~  Again, I walk by this curio cabinet many times a day and had never really thought that a touch of decor would really look nice on the top of it.  Once I realized it then I couldn't find something quick enough. ~chuckle~ I love to browse through Tuesday Morning and stopped by there the other day and found this gorgeous platter bowl and stand and it was just perfect for this spot.  The vases were also at TM and I think they look very nice with this piece.

Our Pokeno group kicked off our year this past Thursday evening.  I was the host and once again, I pulled out my fun  Dollar Tree dishes.  I thought these screamed summer and since summer is about to end I decided to end it with a bang!  And, my trusty bread bowl is always a cute centerpiece.  Just add some colored decorator rocks and  votives.  Couldn't be much simpler.

Well, the above picture depicts me the past few days.  Hubby's office was in dire need of deep cleaning and who better to make it happen than "yours truly."  I usually get on a cleaning binge at the office every year or two but this cleaning is like none other that I've ever done.  I don't know where all the stuff comes from.  Well, I really do.  It accumulates from so, so many forms and half of them are outdated a few weeks after the staff gets them.  They just pile up until someone goes and pitches them all.  It's insane!  We must have 15-20 large garbage bags full of accumulated stuff awaiting the garbage truck.  We have someone that cleans the office each week but that doesn't involve cleaning behind stuff or inside closets.  I've spent about 12 hours so far working on this mission and I have 2 cleaning folks coming to assist me today (yes, Labor Day, how appropriate) and we should wrap it up or at least I'm hoping so. ~smile~  I will feel such a great sense of accomplishment when it is done.  Yes, I do love me some clean!!!! Now, I'm trying to come up with some magical formula to get the staff to make sure it stays this way. ~wink~

AND, I finished getting the application and all the documents needed to file for my Dad's VA benefits.  I handed it to the VA rep here last Wednesday morning and it went in the mail.  He looked over everything (there was 48 pages total) and said, "you must be a neat freak."  I had to chuckle but then said, "yes, very much so."  I told him that I hoped when they saw how neat and orderly the application was that they might just fast track it right on through. ~wishful thinking~  I typed all the application off the VA forms website and then printed them off.  I'm thinking few folks go to the trouble but I had much rather type up a form than hand write it any day.  He said I will hear within 90 days and it could be sooner.  I just hope that they give Daddy whatever he is due.

Wishing you an enjoyable Labor Day!

  1. Good Morning, Lea. I would say "happy Labor Day" but I know what you have planned for today! lol I love to shop at TM and the platter/vases look very pretty displayed on top of the curio. Just the right touch. I pray that your Dad will receive the benefits he is due and that the process will not take too long.

  3. You did good on the new decor touches. TM is always a fun place to shop, but I wish we could get a Home Goods in our area.

  5. The office cleaning must be such a satisfying job when it's all said and done. I need to get into Mr.4444's office, too. The VA stuff sounds like a nightmare; I'm sure your dad is grateful. Have a great week.
