The Wednesday Hodgepodge

It's Wednesday and it's the Hodgepodge.  Joyce came up with some doozies today.  I think you will enjoy!

1. What color is prominent in your home? Are you glad about that or wishing you could cover it up or remove it?
A beautiful muted gold color is in our living areas and I absolutely love it and so glad that our designer directed me to that color.  It is perfect in my estimation but I love every color in our house .

2. What's something you'll NEVER do again?

Several years ago I decided that I wanted to get permanent makeup.  I started by having my eyebrows and eyeliner done.  It was somewhat uncomfortable but nothing to make me wish I had not done it and the healing wasn't too bad either. (and I've had both done again)  So, those went so well that I decided I would get permanent lip liner and lipstick.  Well, let me assure you that I will NEVER do that again.  The process was horrible but once you get started on something like that then you (in my opinion) are committed, so I hung on and let the gal finish.  Now, she had talked to me about getting a dental block and I told her that I did not need that. ~not a good decision~  And, when I tell you that the swelling afterwards was painful, I mean PAINFUL!  My lips were turned wrong side out the next morning and for several days afterwards.  I really thought I had ruined my lips.  But, over time they did heal but the finished look was certainly NOT worth the discomfort  pain.

3. Tell us a couple of ways you fit the stereotypes associated with your gender, and a couple of ways you don't.

A couple of ways I do:
I love all things feminine
I love to shop
I could list a few others but since Joyce only asked for 2, I'll stop here.

A couple of ways I don't:
I'm very decisive, I do not labor over decisions.
I'm generally accepting of reality, I do not live in a fairy tale world.

4. May is Motorcycle Awareness Month. Have you ever owned a motorcycle? Ever ridden a motorcycle? If the opportunity presented itself would you hop on a motorcycle and go for a ride?
No, indeed, I have never owned a motorcycle.  Hubby owned a really small one about 35+ years ago for a short, short time and I think I may have ridden with him one time down the road and back. No, I would not hop on one, I value my life too much.

5. If someone wanted to understand you, what should they read, watch, and listen to?

They could read the Bible or a Christian novel, watch Shark Tank or a Hallmark movie and listen to American Family Radio or contemporary Christian music. I can't wait to read others answer to this.

6.  Insert your own random thought here.
The last of our family company left yesterday morning.  We have had my brother, Hubby's 2 sisters and their husbands and my nephew and his girlfriend come for visits over the last 4 weekends.  It was great being with all of them.  We have family in Iowa, Washington state, Georgia, Virginia and of course, our daughter in Oklahoma.  We don't see our family near as often as we would like but we're glad that we've seen most of them this past month. Now, I've got to put the finishing touches on my preparations for our family trip to Disney World that is fast approaching.  Two weeks from right now we'll be there making memories.

  1. Oh, I could almost feel your pain as you described your lip procedure! That must have been absolutely horrible.
There's nothing like family. So glad you got to spend some time with yours.

  2. That sounds like an incredibly painful lip/lip liner process. I can't even begin to imagine what that must have felt like to have your lips turned inside out. We enjoy watching Shark Tank here too. There's always something that we learn by watching that show. Hope you have a nice week!

  3. My sister had permanent eyeliner put on, and it looks great. I would be too afraid to do anything like that, in case it ended up looking stupid!

  4. Ooh, the lips sounded very painful, Lea! It sounds like you enjoyed your family visiting, and now you have exciting summer plans to look forward to.

  5. My dear friend, the process of permanent makeup does indeed sound painful and I am so sorry you had a rough go of it with your lips. I'm glad all is well and may I just say you are one very beautiful lady.

Thank you for the lovely post. Hugs to you!

  6. Oh Lea...I can only imagine how painful that was, especially around the lips and mouth...such a sensitive area anyway. I guess we do live and learn and I don't know one single person who hasn't done something they wish they hadn't. I will say that not having to put makeup on everyday would be quite a blessing...and you look beautiful! I enjoyed all of your answers! Blessings on the rest of your week :)

  7. Hello dear Leah... Years ago, I had a friend get permanent eyeliner. The pain didn't happen when she had it done, but afterwards when she had $6000.00 in medical bills. Other friends that had it done by the same person had no problems. Glad you had fun with your family. Enjoy your week.

  8. Well, I've a little time to spare dear Lea so wanted to jump in on the hodgepodge today.

    1. What color is prominent in your home? Are you glad about that or wishing you could cover it up or remove it?
I love the colors in my home. I tend to lean towards white walls or very light colors such as sage green in my master bedroom and bath. Yellowish in my kitchen. Mostly white every where else. I did take a leap of faith and went with a light gray for Laundry room. So glad I did. I like different colors but I would have to say my tones are more warm.

    2. What's something you'll NEVER do again?
I am so glad I read what you said. Last year I got on this kick of wanting eyeliner done and if if that went well then I wanted to do my lips. My three daughters talked me out of it. I am so glad I listened to them! DANG, who would have ever thought a parent would be LISTENING to their children and taking their advice. LOL! Buying a pair of boots that was a half size too big and I knew they were because it was the only pair they had and I loved the color and the price and meant I would make them work! NOPE....didn't! But one of my daughters sure enjoyed them!

    3. Tell us a couple of ways you fit the stereotypes associated with your gender, and a couple of ways you don't.

A couple of ways I do:
I like to dress up. Even in a pair of jeans...I dress it up! I love being a woman!
I love LIPSTICK! Plain and simple!
I love romance and so thankful that after nearly 40 years my husband and I still date!

    A couple of ways I don't:
I'm with you...I do not live in a fairy tale world.
I'm not afraid nor shy to love the outdoor world. I love to hunt with my husband and I pretty much can hold on my own in the big outdoors of hunting. I love it!

    4. May is Motorcycle Awareness Month. Have you ever owned a motorcycle? Ever ridden a motorcycle? If the opportunity presented itself would you hop on a motorcycle and go for a ride?
Never owned one and have no desire to ride one. Yes, I have rode before but motorcycles do not interest me in the least.

    5. If someone wanted to understand you, what should they read, watch, and listen to?
Awe...watch a good romance hallmark movie! YES! But just come on to Florida and sit with me in my Wednesday night Bible Study class that I teach or I'll make us a cup of coffee while watching Chopped. Or, maybe we could we could pull up a lawn chair next to my little veggie and herb garden and talk about how good God is that He would create such beauty for us. And if that wouldn't be enough...Hang out with me a day with my 5 grandchildren! Be still my heart!

    6. Insert your own random thought here.
So grateful for some MUCH needed rain today in my neck of the woods.

    Hugs and blessings, Cindy

  10. OH gosh -- you are one brave lady! I'm assuming that make up involved needles and I do not like needles so count me out. You post made me laugh though -- especially your description of your lips!

  11. Well, I guess I can now say I will NEVER be doing the permanent lip thing either : ) I'm so excited for your trip to Disney and know you're going to have a ball. How is your daughter's shoulder feeling?

  12. Oh, I felt your pain! I love reading these...so much fun!

  13. Hi Lea! Enjoyed reading your hodgepodge this morning! Oh, my lips and eyes hurt just hearing about what you went through with the permanent makeup! I'm so glad that it all healed well, but it seems that the truth of such things is never fully disclosed to you before trying it. So happy to meet you here today, and hope that you have a lovely Memorial Day weekend :)

  14. That is very interesting on the permanent make-up. I've often wondered if I would like it. I definitely love the Hallmark movies! I'm currently getting ready for company. Haven't had any in a long time since the guest rooms became rooms for my children who returned home. (6 1/1 years) Have a wonderful time at Disney World!

  15. Lea, I am so sorry for your pain. I am sure many reading this will think twice about this procedure. Hallmark movies are a light and fun escape but I am not a regular viewer. Keeping up with all my blogging friends takes all the spare time I have!
As a little boy my son told his Daddy, " Mama is the girliest (his made up word) girl I know. "My husband has always liked that I was.
Blue is prominent in my home and has been for many years.
I have no desire to ride a motorcycle. In junior high, I rode a scooter with a boyfriend once and it was fun but we lived in a small town and were not in traffic.Motorcycles are very dangerous and scare me.
Very thought provoking questions, Lea. Have a great week.

  16. Hi Lea, WOW the lip thing really sounds painful. So glad you got through it and all turned out well. This was fun to read about you and learn a bit more. I'm like you in making decisions. I just do it and move on. No motorcycles for me either!!
Hope you are enjoying a nice Memorial Day. Have a great week ahead. xo

  17. I can sympathize with you on the permanent makeup. I had permanent eyeliner done many years ago. I had it redone once and am in need now. But it was painful! At one point I considered doing more but didn't and now I'm glad I didn't after reading about your experience.

  18. Why should I go for adult education? This is one question that many adults are struggling to answer. They can't easily answer the question because they think that it is no longer necessary to go for formal education again.http://www.thesisexample.info/
