The Wednesday Hodgepodge

Our sweet Joyce and family are dealing with the passing of her father in law.  He passed away this week  and our thoughts and prayers are with them as they face the days ahead.

Now for today's questions............

1. When and where were the best fireworks you've ever seen? Speaking of fireworks...do you know your hot buttons? The things people can say and/do to set you off? When was the last time someone pushed one of your hot buttons?

The best fireworks that I have ever seen were at Disney World back in the 80's.  It was on one of our trips and they were held at the Magic Kingdom and I'm pretty sure the Magic Kingdom was the only park at that time.  And, we even had a birds eye view of the fireworks from our room if we happened to not be able to watch it at the park.

Yes, I do know my hot buttons and 2 of them are a lack of respect and being unkind.  It is rampant in our society and it is so distressing to me.  It begins in the home  because children learn by example. When I witness disrespect and unkindness it definitely ignites my hot button.  And, so does the lack of customer service in so many businesses today.  Oh, I can hardly deal with the automation of so many business.  I just want a human being on the other end of the line.

It has been about 3 weeks since someone pushed my hot button and I almost blew a head gasket.  I won't go into details, but I was at one of our local banks taking care of some business when I encountered such disrespect and unkindness that I reeled from it for a few days afterwards.

2. Have you hosted any outdoor summer parties this year? Attended any? What makes for a great outdoor party?
No, we have not had any outside gatherings this summer.  We have a big porch and a really huge patio but we have nary a tree and it is hotter than hot outside.  The early spring or fall is the time for us to have an outside gathering.

We attended a 4th of July gathering yesterday that was outside and inside at some friends who have a lovely place to host such an event.

Good friends, sharing good conversation over good food makes for a great outdoor party.

3. What does freedom mean to you?

To believe what I want to believe, say what I want to say and live where I want to live.  As in anything, we can carry these freedoms too far and I believe we are seeing that right now.

4. July is National Cell Phone Courtesy month...what annoys you most about  people's cell phone habits?

First, thinking they cannot live without them.  Secondly, talking on them loudly in public places.  A lot of Doctors offices and businesses have signs up now not allowing talking on cell phones while in their business.  I think all businesses should have that policy.

5. What's your current summer anthem?
Day by Day from Godspell.  It's sort of my theme right now as I wait on my eyes to heal from the emergency retina surgery I had about 10 days ago.  I'm very restricted and I'm counting down the days until August 5th when, hopefully, the restrictions will be lifted.  And, these lyrics from the song are certainly worth pondering while I wait.........
Day by Day
Oh, dear Lord
Three things I pray,
To see Thee more clearly
Love Thee more dearly
Follow Thee more nearly
Day by Day

6.  Insert your own random thought here.

I saw the recipe for the above breakfast dish last week on Facebook and decided to make it yesterday for upcoming company.  It is called, Breakfast in a Bundt (I just used a regular tube pan rather than a bundt).  It has eggs, cheese, ham, biscuits (raw), hash browns and seasoning.  It is all mixed together and put into the pan for baking.  I sprayed the pan very, very well with Pam.  The recipe said to turn it out on a platter once removed from the oven.  I probably waited 5 minutes and ran a knife around the edge and down the center and then turned it over to put on platter.  Well, half came out and the other half remained in the pan.  It was the biggest mess and the bottom half was more than stuck.  It looked delicious and Hubby had a piece and gave it a thumbs up.  So, next time I make it I will put it in a 9X13 pan and and it will likely work just fine.  I sure did hate to waste this but it was a huge flop as far as looks good.  So aggravatng!

  1. I'm so glad your eye is healing. I have been thinking of you, and I read that when you posted it, but never got back to comment. My son-in-law had a detached retina so I'm familiar with the injury. Take care to heal as I'm sure you are. I know that's frustrating though. Our hot buttons are similar and if mine are set off I can also dwell on it for a few days.

  2. Hope that the surgery fixes it all, I see my retina specialist in 2 weeks. Your hot buttons are mine too. The unkindest and lack of civility that I see is just incredible. We're such an angry nation.

  3. It does seem like respect has gone out the window these days.
I'm going to check out that breakfast recipe...looks good & easy! :)

  4. It is not easy sitting on the sidelines healing. It will be worth it all when you have recovered. Ongoing prayers for a complete healing of the retina. You have made me so stinkin' curious about what could have possibly happened at the bank. I have become considerably more vocal as I have grown older. I am highly unlikely to suffer fools. The challenge is to speak up in firmness with kindness. Yup. Working on that.

  5. First of all, I had not read Joyce's post yet so I did not know about her father-in-law...I'm so sorry to hear that. So many of your answers rang true for me as well, especially #2. Don't even get me started. Day By Day was always a favorite of mine...I loved Godspell and saw it on stage years ago...great words to live by, huh? And I can't believe you shared the same recipe that my friend made and brought to a church gathering on Saturday! Hers looked as though it came out of the bundt pan fine and I thought it was really good. There are so many different ways you could make this! Praying for your eye to continue to heal and believe me, I would be as impatient as you for it to be all good again!

  6. I agree with you on that hot button of disrespect! I always put my phone on vibrate at the doctor's office and in restaurants, etc. It is also in my purse. Nothing is that important! That is aggravating about your breakfast. I've had that happen before. It does sound yummy.

  7. So sorry to hear about your eye. I'm glad that it's healing. I am sure it's very frustrating to have to wait while it does. I can kind of take a while to get over it too when the right button is pushed. Have a great week.

  8. I pray that your eyes continue to heal. The lack of courtesy and respect is running rampant, so much hatefulness and rudeness. You are right, respect begins in the home! The breakfast dish looks delicious, it is so aggravating for something to stick in the pan

  9. So sorry about your eye Lea. May it heal quickly. It is tough when we lose a family member. I hope Joyce can take some time to heal as well. My dad is back in the hospital as of this morning. The breakfast dish sounds great. I, too have a difficult time withy bundt cake pans....LOL Thank you for your sweet compliments.

  11. Your breakfast casserole looked delicious and the suggestion to do it in a cake pan sounds perfect. Quite often those wonderful Pinterest ideas need a little tweaking. Have a great rest of summer.
