Bothered by Acid Reflux?

I know, I know, what an odd subject for a blog post.  But, I'm betting over half of the folks that are reading this suffer from Acid Reflux. If you don't suffer with it, I bet you know someone who does.   It seems that it has been rampant for the past 12-15 years and before that time, I had never even heard of it.  I was diagnosed with Acid Reflux about 7-8 years ago and in the past 2-3 years it has been awful.  I've had it so bad that I have almost lost my voice at times and I have had periods of time that I needed to clear my throat almost continually. (Yes, AF can and does cause those types of aggravating responses)  And, that along with the gurgling feeling in my throat and general discomfort in my upper abdomen.  My Gastroenterologist started me on Nexium, one to two a day, about 6 years ago and I've been taking it pretty much ever since until about a month ago.  I have not liked taking it but I couldn't live with all the issues it was causing, so like a million others, I just continued taking it.  The long term effects of PPI's (Proton Pump Inhibitors) is not something I wanted to risk, so, in the past couple of months  I began searching for a way to get off of them.  Plus, the cost was insane, almost $500 a month taking 2 per day.  That's what I call "highway robbery."

I have a friend that is also bothered, rather severely, with AF too and I knew that a couple of years ago she started using an Essential Oil formula with much success.  We have the same EO rep and health coach, so I called her and discussed the situation with her.  I have been using EO for about 3 years and have had much success in other areas with them so I was more than willing to give them a try for my AF.

For the formula, I needed Veggie Caps and Fractionated Coconut Oil and I had both of these items on hand.  I use mainly Doterra oils but any pure therapeutic oil will work.

I also needed Fennel and Lemongrass oils for the formula and did not have them in my stash so I ordered them immediately.  I ordered them from Eden's Garden, another reputable EO online company.  Once they arrived I was able to concoct the formula.

I had a supply of dropper bottles and  big droppers which make dropping a whole bunch of drops a whole lot easier.  These items can be found on Amazon.  Here's the formula:
3 drops of Fractionated Coconut Oil
2 drops of Lemongrass
2 drops of Fennel
Drop these into one of the gel caps and then swallow it, just as you would any other pill.  I am taking one in the morning and one before dinner at this time.  You cannot make these capsules up ahead of time as the oil will eat thru the capsule, so they have to be made up just before you take them.  But, I do make up a lot of the formula in one of the dropper bottles and that makes it very easy.  It's also easy to travel with.  I just put a few of the gel caps in a tiny ziploc bag and that bag with the dropper bottle in another ziploc and you are ready to go.

In addition to the capsules my rep told me to put two drops of Lemon oil in water at some point of the day.  I drink water all day long so that was not a big deal at all.

Within 48 hours I could not believe the relief I was feeling.  I was not clearing my throat, and the discomfort in my upper abdomen had subsided.  After 3 weeks the only issue I was still having was the gurgling in my throat.  My rep told me that after 2-3 weeks if I was still having any issues to give her a call and she would tell me some other things to try.  So, that's exactly what I did.

She told me to add to my regime,  6-8oz of room temperature water with 2 drops of lemon oil in it the first thing in the morning.  BEFORE ANYTHING ELSE!!!  Of course, the first thing I drink in the mornings is a cup of half and half coffee but I knew that I could drink the lemon water while I was waiting on my cup to brew and have it over with.  She told me that it would normalize the acid level in my stomach for the day and then when I drank my coffee it would neutralize it.  That makes perfect sense to me. She also told me to add up to 10 drops of lemon oil to the water I drink throughout the day but no more than 10 to keep the acid neutralized.  (And, if you do not suffer from severe AF then you should not have that much lemon oil in one day.)  Well, I am thrilled to report that almost immediately the gurgling feeling in my throat was gone and I am symptom free!

After a few weeks I will not be as careful with my diet and as I add such things as pepperoni, tomato products, soda, etc. I will see how it goes.  Of course, I will be on the regime for a long while before I try to stop it and see how I do.  I will cut the evening capsule out in another week or two and see if just one per day does the trick.

As I said, I wanted to share this via my blog so that others who deal with this might know that there is a more natural, safer and much less expensive way to deal with AF.  I promise, it is not that big of a deal.  After a couple of days of doing the regime, you will get the hang of it and dropping those 7 drops into a capsule from the dropper bottle is "easy peasy."  I  make the formula about every 2-3 weeks and that doesn't take but just a few minutes.  The hardest part of that is paying attention to counting the drops.  I generally put 240 drops of the fractionated coconut oil , 160 drops of the Fennel and Lemongrass for that 2-3 week period.

I am so glad that I was introduced to essential oils and I so wish that Doctors would recommend their use, but that is not going to happen.  I do intend to share my relief with my Gastro Doctor the next time I see him.  And, the oil and supplies for the formula cost less than $75 and I have no idea how long these two bottles of oil may last but it will be a very long time.

If you have any questions or didn't understand something, just email me or ask in the comments and I'll sure answer.  I want any and everyone to experience this natural remedy for AF.

  1. Wow, yes me too. I take Zantac and have had an endoscopy to make sure there wasn’t something serious going on. Thanks for this info, I just might give it a try. Have a blessed day. Hugs.

  3. I don't suffer with AR, but I still loved reading this. My husband and I have researched and tried natural remedies for several bothersome conditions and have had good results. It's nice to be able to use something readily available and inexpensive. I am happy this is working so well for you and thanks for sharing the "recipe".

  4. I have had multiple ulcers and was on PPIs but I am on Zantac now. I am allergic to citrus so not sure that this would be a good idea for me (no lemons, oranges, or grapefruits - makes the inside of my ears itch). I wonder if there's a switch-out for the lemon?

  5. I took Prilosec...just over the counter and as my AR got worse I started taking probiotics which helped a lot too. I found a little comfort with putting some peppermint on my tummy also. I in the long run got so sick (throwing up and unable to eat) I ended up at the doctor with gall stones and had to get my gall bladder removed. I have not had any problems since. I hope the EO's will work, it is good to try to heal naturally. Try probiotics too.
