The Wednesday Hodgepodge

Hodgepodge Questions-Volume 37

1. The US of A celebrated Memorial Day this past Monday. Does your family have any military ties? If so, tell us about them.

Hubby's Dad was in the Army as Combat Engineer and served during WWII.

My Dad was in the Navy as a Pattern Maker, and served in the Korean War.

2. Cole slaw, potato salad, baked beans, potato chips, mac and cheese, macaroni salad...your favorite BBQ side? How many of these do you make from scratch vs. buying from the deli?
I make a good cole slaw, great baked beans and decent mac and cheese.  All the others, I will buy, don't think I can make them any better or as good.  The red skinned potato salad at the Wal-Mart deli is the all time best. ~in my opinion~

3.  I enjoyed asking this question back when the Hodgepodge was a regular thing...Lake Superior State University posts a list each year of words they think should be banished from the Queen's English for misuse, overuse, and/or general uselessness. The 2020 list includes-quid pro quo, artisanal, curated, influencer, literally, I mean, living my best life, mouthful (word used by foodies to describe texture of food in their mouth), chirp (basically an insult, you can read more on the website), jelly (short for jealous), totes (short for totally), vibe, and OK Boomer (internet response from millenial to older generation).

Of the words/phrases listed which would you most like to see 'banned'?
Well, most of these I am not the least familiar with but I could go the rest of my life and never hear the words quid pro quo.  They have been worn slam out!!!

4. I'm sure next year's list will be filled with words springing out of this weird season we're all in currently. What word or phrase associated with the Corona would you be happy to hear less often?
Social distancing.  Good grief, I am so weary of it all.  Hubby and I went out to eat last week at one of our favorite places and it was so weird and not even fun because they aren't allowed to  have a handful of people right now.  I definitely believe the Corona is very real but I think it has been wayyyyy over hyped and has a whole bunch of political mess attached to it. ~I'll hush~

5.  The month of May wraps up in just a few days. Bid her adieu in ten words or less.
Best part, finally getting to see our Oklahoma family.

6. Insert your own random thought here.

Hubby and I have been discussing having a pergola built since we built this house almost 5 years ago.  Well, last week construction was begun and it is almost finished.  We are most pleased and think when we get it all "decked out" that it is going to be a lovely addition to our patio area.  When it's completely finished  and "decked out" I'll post some pics.

Have a great rest of the week!

The ABC's of Me

I saw this on another blog a few weeks ago and I so enjoyed it that I thought you might enjoy my answers to these questions as well.

A- Age: 67,until July 29th

D- Dog’s name:No dogs. Our last dogs were labs and their names were Rosco and Rhett.
E- Essential start your day item: Coffee and devotional time
F- Favorite color: Gray blue
G- Gold or silver: Both??  Well, my mind went immediately to jewelry but I suppose it could be a whole lot of items.  It would depend on where it's located, what I'm wearing  and so forth.  I use a lot of antique gold in my home decor but I wear a lot of sterling silver jewelry.
H- Height: 5'6"
I- Instruments you play: I use to play the piano but it's been such a long time since I've played that I'm not sure if I still can.

N- Nicknames: No nicknames for me that I know of.
O- Overnight hospital stay(s): Birth of both children and thankfully we didn't do "drive thru births" back in that day.  I stayed 5 nights with both of my babies after a normal delivery.  I can't imagine how these girls today have a baby one day and go home the next. ~insane~ I had a hysterectomy in 1987 and that's the extent of my hospital stays.
P- Pet peeve: Not doing what you say you will do or not showing up when you say you will. ~don't even get me started~

S- Siblings: 2 brothers, 1, 3 years younger and 1,12 years younger.
T- Time you wake up: Usually around 5:30 a.m. I've always gotten up early. I love the early morning.
U- Underwear: Well, my goodness, let's get personal.  Just so you know, I ALWAYS wear it and I'll leave it at that.  ~chuckle~
V- Vegetable you dislike: Well, can't think of any but surely there is one or two that I don't care for.  I could live off of veggies!
W- Ways you run late: Anything out of my control, car trouble, traffic jam, or accident to name a few.  I pride myself on being on time but life can always throw things outside of your control.
X- X-Rays you’ve had: shoulder and back
Y- Yummy food you make: Almond Pound Cake - my family absolutely loves this cake and pretty much expects one to be sitting on the cabinet often.
Z- Zoo favorite: hummm.......not sure I have a favorite.

And, now you know even more than you did about me.~smile~  I hope that each of you are enjoying coming out somewhat from isolation and gradually working your way to a new "normal."  I am happy to report that I was able to get my nails and feet done AND my hair.  I feel like a new woman for sure.  Now, if the senior living facilities within our state will allow us to go inside the facilities sooner than later, I'll really be happy.

Abundant blessings!

Wednesday Hogepodge

From this Side of the Pond

Good to be back with the Hodgepodgers this week.  We were on our way home from seeing our Oklahoma family last Wednesday. But, I'm back with it today.

1. Ever played the game Farkle? Are you a risk taker? In games only or also in life?

I have played Farkle and think it's a fun game.  I don't mind taking a risk in a game, I mean, it's just a  game.  In life, not so much.  I mean, it's my life. ~smile~

2. What's your favorite thing about your yard or whatever outdoor space you may have?

This picture (taken yesterday afternoon) is of a large portion of our backyard and I love everything about it.  My husband LOVES a beautiful yard and sees to it that ours is kept in pristine condition with beautiful presentation.  The landscape along with the pond makes for such a relaxing haven. I enjoy looking out our windows all across the back of our house to see this beautiful view.

3. Tell us about the most interesting building you've seen or been in.

The On-Line Buzzletter: Quebec City Trip #30:Massive Cathedral in ...

Oh, my!  I've seen many interesting buildings in my lifetime but St. Anne's Cathedral in Quebec City would be one of the most beautiful and interesting.  The architecture inside and out is unbelievable!

4. In this current season of social distancing, what's something you've come to realize you take for granted in more ordinary times? Do you think you'll make a conscious effort to appreciate whatever that 'it' is once normal life resumes?

I definitely took for granted going anywhere I wanted to go when I wanted to go without any restrictions.  Indeed, I will never view going and doing the same once I get my freedom back. ~It cannot happen soon enough~

5. Share a favorite song with a springtime flower in the lyrics somewhere.

Lynn Anderson - Rose Garden - Single Version paroles | Musixmatch

I Never Promised You A Rose Garden by Lynn Anderson.  I have not thought about that song in a long, long time, but, it was definitely a favorite of mine "back in the day."

6. Insert your own random thought here.

Happy Stick Girl Clip Art Free Stock Photo - Public Domain Pictures

I felt like this gal looks yesterday.  I met up with friends for a little shopping and lunch.  YES!  Tuesday Morning is open and a couple of small gift and home decor shops.  Can I just tell you that I was beside myself with excitement.  We don't even enter Phase 1 of reopening our state until this Friday, so not sure how these places were able to open.  But, hey, I didn't ask any questions, I just went.  Yes, this Friday, our fair state enters Phase 1 of reopening, we are lagging a bit behind but "it is what it is" and I have to accept it.  But, I DO have a hair appointment next Tuesday, the 19th. ~not a day too soon, I assure you~  Now, to schedule a pedicure and I'll be doing much better.  Our senior facilities will be a part of Phase 3, so that means mid to late June at least.  I am getting to visit with my Daddy on the front porch of his assisted living facility,  but I want to be able to go to his room.  Thankfully he has handled all of these very well.

Abundant blessings!

Prime Purchases

Well, I was a bit distracted this morning and completely forgot to post my Prime Purchases.  But, better late than never.  Here’s coming to you from Oklahoma.......

It's Prime Tuesday, a post I so enjoy putting together and I enjoy it even more when you find something that you like and want as well. Happy reading!

The Miss Julia Series

Recently a friend recommended the "Miss Julia" series to me.  I started this one a few days ago and it drew me in within the first chapter.  I think there are 20+ books in the series so if I stick with them, they will fill my reading time for quite a while.  They are easy, entertaining reading and likely not everyone's "cup of tea" but I'm thoroughly enjoying the first one.

27 x 27 inch Scarf

Surely all of you, if you have watched any of the briefings concerning the virus, have noticed Dr. Birxs' beautiful scarves.  She wears.them.every.day!!!  Someone said they are her power accessory and signature statement.  Well, all I can say is, she wears them well.  And, seeing hers has rekindled my love of the SQUARE scarf.  I have quite a few scarves but they are all rectangular.  I started browsing through Amazon and there are sooooo many to choose from.  I saw the one above that is 27"X 27" and a beautiful shade of blue and ONLY $10.99 and there are a zillion choices of colors and prints in a silk like fabric.  Very pretty!

AMAZON

Garden Flag

My spring and summer inside seasonal decor is lemons.  I love the look and found this lemon garden flag and it is perfect and such a great quality.  I put garden flags in one of our back flower beds and we can see it from the big windows across our back. Makes me smile!
AMAZON

Capri Joggers

My daughter told me about these.  I'm not sure I had even heard of capri joggers but, I am now a BIG fan.  They are so cute and come in 5 colors.  I do not care for the white tie at all and thankfully it is mainly for decoration, so I pulled it out of all of mine.  But, that's everyone's own choice. The fit is great, they are most comfortable and look really cute!

AMAZON

Scout Uptown Tote

Exclusive Uptown Girl Tote in Walk the Line

Doesn't every woman need "one more" tote.  I mean, really!  I got this one for my crochet stuff.  I have not crocheted in 12 years until this recent isolation and I have picked it back up.  I had started an afghan 12 years ago and FINALLY finished it and have now started on another one.  This cute bag sits by my recliner and holds all my yarn, needles and sissors.  It is made of a very heavy plastic and stands on it's on.  It's perfect for my needs.
AMAZON

Glass Foaming Soap Dispensers

I love foaming hand soap best of all hand soaps and was so delighted to find these foaming soap dispensers.  They are glass and come in 3 choices for the pump color.  I got the Burnished Bronze.  They are rather large so no need to refill them all that often.  These come 2 to a pack and they come empty but below you will find a link to foaming hand wash.  They are very attractive and work very well.
AMAZON

Foaming Soap Refill

And, here's the foaming hand wash refill.  It comes in a few fragrances.  I like the Sea Minerals fragrance.

AMAZON

Bathroom or Dining Disposable Guest Towels

I have disposable guest towels in our guest bathroom.  I'm pretty sure these are more popular than ever right now.  I've been using them for a long time and I often give them as gifts.  I think these are especially attractive.  There are lots to choose from and Amazon also has the holders for them as well.
AMAZON

And, there you have it, my Prime picks for April.
