A Holiday Spirit Kind of Hodgepodge

I've missed being a part of the HP the past couple of weeks but sometimes there doesn't seem to be enough hours in the day.  Life happens! ~smile~  But, it's sure good to be back answering Joyce's questions today.

1. What do you think it means to have the holiday spirit?

Enjoying Christmas music
Shopping for gifts
Wrapping gifts
Enjoying family
Worshipping together
All of these mean the holiday spirit to me.

2. What's one thing you've baked this month? Have you eaten the finished product? How much baking do you do around the holidays? What baked sweet something does your family insist is on the menu during this season of the year?

I LOVE to bake and bake a lot throughout the year.  I think it's theraputic for me.  I enjoy giving my baked items away as well and like to package them "cutesy."  I know, I know, crazy! I don't really know of any one baked item my family insists on during this season.  But, they are ALWAYS ready for a piece of my Almond Pound Cake.  It's an all time favorite!  My big thing for the holidays is making fudge.  I have made around 35 pounds this year and will be packaging and delivering it in the coming days to the "lucky" folks.  And, it's not something that my family is all that crazy about, including me.  But, I so enjoy making it and sharing it and have been doing it for 20+ years.

3. Your most recent 'half-baked' idea?

Hummm...........this one stumped me.  I can't think of a thing.

4. Where were you the last time you 'baked' in the sun? The top ten sunniest destinations in the world (most sun from January-December according to this site) are Dubai, Bali Indonesia, Los Angeles CA, Miami FL, Barbados, Dominican Republic, St. Lucia, Mauritius, Antiqua, and the Canary Islands Spain. Have you been to any of the cities listed? Which one on the list appeals to you the most? If the world were not upside down crazy and you could lie on a beach anywhere right now where would you go?

I cannot remember the last time I baked in the sun, I learned the ill effects of that and  have been very careful ever since.  I have never been to any of the cities mentioned above and if I could go to any beach right now, it would be Seaside Beach in Florida.  Seaside is such a quaint and beautiful city with gorgeous turquoise beaches.

5. Today I wish I had more holiday gatherings to attend.  I am so bummed that many of our usual holiday gatherings are not happening this year.  This whole Covid mess has put a damper on my social self for sure. ~Boo - Hiss~

6. Insert your own random thought here.

Our family is making plans for our Christmas celebration and praying that ALL of us can stay well and nothing will change our being together.  I'm sure that many of you are doing the same thing.  Hubby and I are being extra cautious right now and the kids are being as cautious as they can be.  But, our daughter and DIL are school teachers and 4 of our 5 Grans are in school.  So, it is what it is and we will deal with it accordingly, happily or unhappily.

  1. Prayers that all stay healthy. I miss all the family gatherings. I teach 6-8 grade Math and Pre-Algebra. We were virtual, then hybrid (and the students did great!!) and now back to virtual. I retired, but went back part-time last year. I told someone if we could learn from these students....they wore their mask without complaining and practiced social distancing!! Come on adults!!

  2. It will be the same for us. Trying to be a careful as we can, but life continues on. My daughters both have to work at least part time onsite. At least both sons (in other states) work from home. But my dil is a teacher and she is in the classroom.
All that fudge! Wow! I'm sure the recipients will enjoy it!

  3. Omg I Finally Got Helped  !! I'm so excited right now, I just have to share my testimony on this Forum.. The feeling of being loved takes away so much burden from our shoulders. I had all this but I made a big mistake when I cheated on my wife with another woman  and my wife left me for over 4 months after she found out..  I was lonely, sad and devastated. Luckily I was directed to a very powerful spell caster Dr Emu who helped me cast a spell of reconciliation on our Relationship and he brought back my wife and now she loves me far more than ever.. I'm so happy with life now. Thank you so much Dr Emu, kindly Contact  Dr Emu Today and get any kind of help you want.. Via Email emutemple@gmail.com or Call/WhatsApp +2347012841542

  4. We're doing our best to stay away from everyone as much as possible so we're healthy for the wedding happening soon after the holidays. So much is out of our control, but we're doing the best we can with the information we have, and thankfully don't live in a state that has extreme restrictions in place. I do hope your entire family is able to happily gather for Christmas!

  6. Your fudge sounds incredible, and I also find baking to be therapeutic. We plan to gather with family for Christmas. Our son is in school, but at least he will have been out for a few days before the holiday. Have a good week!

  8. I love your answers. I am a fudge-maker, too, and posted the other day about using the beautiful card boxes poured full of fudge to give to others. I haven't started baking yet but will do that this next week. Have a blessed night- Diana

  9. The baking bug is biting me. I need to make some cookies and perhaps some caramels and fudge to give as gifts to the neighbors. Next week... I enjoyed your answers to this fun Hodgepodge! I love that Joyce brought it back!

  10. Yum, fudge! My granny used to make fudge during the Christmas holidays. I thought her fudge was the best ever. I have been wrapping gifts today so my little skinny tree is sure looking mighty full around the bottom. LOL! Hope you have a wonderful rest of the week and weekend dear Lea. Even though I work PT I am off till after Christmas so enjoying a little down town that will be mixed in with family things which I love. Hugs and blessings, Cindy

  11. Would love for you to do a post sharing your fudge and almond cake recipes. My Prince C. lost his father in the spring and we want to make his dad's favorite peanut butter fudge for Christmas in his honor.
I learned the dangers of sun worshipping too late...have not had skin cancer, thank goodness, but have many sun spots and wrinkles to blame on my sunbaking. We have been to the Dominican, LA and Miami, in addition to living 6 years in Panama (beach every weekend) and the Sun City of El Paso is where I call home.
Hope you all remain well through the holidays and enjoy some family time together.
