Hodgepodge - School Edition

And, it's Wednesday and that means the Hodgepodge.  Joyce has done this over 400 times and we are so grateful for her "hanging in there" with us.  She's the best!

1. Is school back in session where you live? Is everyone in person or does your system still offer a virtual option? Are kids wearing masks?

Public schools started on August 17th and the private school our Gran girls attend started the 20th.  As far as I know all schools are in person but there is an option for virtual learning in some schools.  Yes, masks are mandated, much to my dismay.

2. Something you still do 'old school'?
I/we still keep a wall calendar with all our appointments, meetings, etc. written on it.  I started keeping a wall calendar when the kids were little and it has worked so well for us that I've just never stopped even though it is just me and Hubby now.  It is so easy for either of us to look at it and see what obligations we have in a glance.  I do use my Iphone calendar for some things such as birthdays but our main calendar is our trusty wall calendar.

3. One lesson you've learned in the 'school of life'?

4. When you were in school did you pack a lunch or buy a lunch? Your favorite thing to see on the lunch menu or inside your lunchbox back in the day?

I never remember taking my lunch to school.  I always ate the school lunch. I remember like it was yesterday the rolls that the cafeteria ladies made.  Oh, my goodness!  They always had honey available to put on them and I was always looking around to see if I had a friend that wasn't going to eat their roll.  Melt in your mouth goodness!

5. August is National Family Fun Month. Tell me something fun you’ve done this month.

The Gran girls stayed with me for 9 days after their Mom started back teaching before their school started.  I've been doing this several years and I always try to plan a few special things for some of the days.  I took them to get a manicure and pedicure.  We made cake pops (not as easy as the recipe makes it sound) and went to breakfast a couple of mornings.  These girls LOVE waffles! It was a fun time.

6. Insert your own random thought here.

Okay, is she not the absolute cutest, most adorable dog you have ever seen?  She is the latest member of our son's family.  She is a Cavapoo and the most precious dog.  She is so calm and will just snuggle up to you and lay down.  They still have not named her but they have some cute names in the running. I'm not a big pet person but this gal won my heart when I laid eyes on her.

Sunday Stealing

It has been months since I've participated in Sunday Stealing but when I saw the questions for this week, I thought it would be fun to link up.

1. Has anyone ever made fun of your taste in music?

Well, not in an ugly way, but my kids have made their comments if they come in or get in my car and I've got good ole Gospel music or easy listening music playing.  I just tell them that they have no appreciation for "good" music. ~chuckle~

2. Do you have pop-tarts in your house right now?

I do not.  I had some a couple of years ago when the Gran boys were coming and would be eating them. They are definitely not a regular item for us.

3. Does someone owe you over twenty dollars?
No one owes me a penny as far as I know.

4. When was the last time you burned any part of your body?

Just a month or so ago I burned a small place on the top of my arm taking some cookies out of the oven.

5. What kind of booze did you last take shots of?

Yep! that would be me.

6. If you could see any musician live, front row, who would you choose?

There would be several but George Strait came to mind immediately.  What a guy! I have seen in concert many, many years ago and it was fantastic.  I did not have front row seats but that would have made it even more fantastic.  I do love his music and style!

7. If I gave you ten dollars, what would you spend it on?

No doubt about it, I'd run and get myself a nutritional shake.  They are the best 200 calories I could possible enjoy.

8. Does / did either of your parents serve in the military?

My Daddy served in the US Navy from 1948 - 1952.  Wasn't he a good looking sailor?

9. Do you like sour candy?

I do. Our Gran girls love sour gummie bears and they introduced them to me several years ago and I've been a fan ever since.

10. What do you do to stay awake when you’re tired?

I generally don't get sleepy until I sit in my recliner in the evening and I may doze for 10 minutes or so and get past it.  But, it isn't every evening.  Generally if I'm on my laptop, crocheting or engaged in a TV show, I'm "good to go."

11.Do you wear your shoes around the house?

I sure do!  No bare feet for this gal!  When my regular shoes come off, my house slippers go on. As a result I have VERY tender feet.

12. Is there ever a time that you enjoy cold showers?

NO!  I'm sure there are times that they could be good for you but I always take "as hot as I can stand it" showers.  And, I know, they are so drying to the skin.  I try to limit the dryness by using a thick body cream all over my body when I get out of the shower.  I can't imagine a cold shower giving anyone the great feeling that a hot shower gives.

13. Are you good at filling silence in awkward situations?

I can generally come up with something to say to lighten the moment and get things back on track.

14. Any TV shows you sit down weekly to watch?

When The Voice is in season I watch it every week.  I don't really have any TV shows that I watch but I do enjoy the competition of The Voice.

15. Are you one to sneak food into movie theaters?

It has a long while since I've been to a movie theater but on a few occasions I have taken in a snack or a bottle of water.

I do hope you enjoyed reading this as much as I enjoyed answering these questions.  A really fun post!

Wishing you ..............

Wednesday Hodgepodge - Roller Coaster Style

And, I've missed linking up with Joyce and all the Hodgepodgers the past couple weeks.  I've become quite the "blog slacker" as of late, but, other things vying for my time.  Maybe you won't give up on me and will enjoy stopping by whenever I do post.  For now, here's my answers.................

1. Monday, August 16th was National Roller Coaster Day. Are you a fan? Did you celebrate? Last place/time you rode a roller coaster?

I had no idea there was such a day but, even if I had, there would definitely not have been a celebration on my part.  I.am.NOT.a.fan.  If I remember correctly the last time I rode one was my Senior year of high school and that was a l-o-n-g time ago.  There is something called 'motion sickness' and I don't think I need to say more.  Our oldest two Grans will ride them "until the cows come home."  They will get off and get right back in the line to ride again.  Ughhhhhh!!!

2. Tell us about a time in your life where it felt like you were figuratively riding a roller coaster.

The first thing that came to my mind was in 2011 when my Daddy was diagnosed with Guillian Barre Syndrome.  Oh, my goodness, what a roller coaster ride! He was 80 years old and all statistics were against him surviving it.  Butttttt, the Lord was not finished with him.  It was a very long hospital stay in a hospital 120 miles from where we live and a then to a nursing facility for 6 months and then he was able to move into the assisted living facility where he still resides.  It was truly a miracle and one I did not know if either of us would survive.  Roller coaster would be a great description of that time.

3. Favorite treat to eat at an amusement park or state fair?

It has been a long time since I have had roasted corn but it is sooooo good.  I think my last was at a fair when our kids were in high school.

4. Are you easy to get along with? Elaborate.

Hummmm............what an interesting question. I would say that I am and for sure, I try to be and want to be.  I'm very outgoing, love people and thoroughly enjoy having a good time.  I can be highly opinionated but I can usually respect a differing opinion, even if I know my opinion is right. ~big chuckle~  Bottom line, I give getting along my best shot and hope that others view me as easy to get along with.  Hope that made some sense..........

5. Something on your calendar to see-do-read-accomplish or just enjoy before month's end?

I decided this year that our Christmas cards would be addressed (both to and from), and stamped by September 1.  I did not even send cards last year because I simply felt too rushed to get them done.  That's when I decided to get a very early start this year.  I never use the envelopes that come with the photo cards anyway, so I ordered the red envelopes that I generally use and went to work.  Now, all I have to do is get the photos lined out for them, order the cards, stuff them and seal them.  I feel way ahead of the game this year!

6. Insert your own random thought here.

I know that you are likely just as I am, sick and tired of Covid!!!  Would we have ever thought that we would be facing such a surge in this illness?  I just assumed that the worst was behind us but, boy, was I wrong!  Hubby and I have both been vaccinated and I imagine we'll take the boosters  Yes, we do live in a free land and everyone can decide for themselves regarding taking the vaccine.  I wonder if the media would quit cramming it down our throats if the "non takers" might reconsider. Let's all continue to pray that we can see an end to this pandemic very SOON!

And, I leave you with this................

July Prime Purchases

Here it is August and time is flying by.  I hate to say this, but it won't be long until we are all thinking about Christmas.  So, as you browse through this and the upcoming Prime posts, remember to think about Christmas.  And, here you go for July Prime Purchases..................

Grace Karin Cardigan

I "think" I may have already had this on another Prime post but, these are so nice and they bear repeating if I have already told you about them.  I now have 3 of them and while they are a sweater, I do wear them in the summer when I am going to be inside an air conditioned building for any length of time.  I get soooo cold.  These come in some great colors and patterns.

Coolibar  Wideleg  Pants

This may be the first Prime Purchase that I have shared that I did not keep but wanted you to know about anyway.  These are so cute and so, so thin.  Coolibar is such a great brand and these are made extremely well and you can wear them untied at the ankle.  They have a high split if they are not tied and very wide legged.  I just did not think I would end up wearing them so I returned them.

Babyliss  Flat Iron

This is the greatest flatiron.  It's longer and thinner than any flatiron I have ever owned and I love both of those features.  My daughter has owned one for years and I decided to give it a whirl and I am more than pleased.

Ecrocoo  Women's  Top

This is the cutest top!  I am not generally drawn to prints but something about this appealed to me and I do love the ochre color.  It's a nice length, I love the v-neck and the sleeves.  And, it's reasonably priced. But, I returned it.  Can you believe that after such a glowing report?  But, I was so afraid that I would not wear it and now I've given it a second thought and sort of wish that I had kept it.  I suppose it is the print but it was so subdued and cute.

Treat/Gift Boxes

I don't have to tell you that I am always looking for cute boxes to put my homemade cookies in.  These are so cute and will only hold 3-4 medium sized cookies.  But, that's plenty for a little "happie."  The thank you stickers and ribbons come with the boxes.  The ribbons are very nice but I will likely never use the stickers.  They make a lovely presentation.

Cherish  Kiss  Embossed  Handbag

I LOVE leather purses and this one is sooooo pretty and comes in several colors.  I love this shade of green and thought it would make a great purse for fall. It is the perfect size for me and has the divider in the middle which is a must for me.  This is a big expensive but it is very well made and will likely last a very long time.

Blank  Cards  and  Envelopes

These are the cutest note cards.  I love their shapes.  And, I'm still of the opinion that a proper thank you note is often in order.  These will definitely grab the receivers eye when they pull this out of their mailbox.  And, they would also make a great gift.

Slim  Wallet

I have never owned one of these little flat slim wallets but decided that I needed one for the occasion that I use my small crossbody purse.  When shopping I don't usually carry my big purse but rather a much smaller crossbody.  It will not hold my big wallet but this is just perfect and it comes in so many great colors.

Silicone  Collaspable Travel Bottles

If you do much traveling then you may want to check these out.  They are a collapsible silicone bottle and there are 4 of 3 different sizes in the package.  They take up far less room than the hard plastic bottles and they have the lift up top for easy use.  I had never seen these and they may have been around for a while but wanted to share them in case any of you have not seen them.  There's so many of them that you could easily share with family or friends.

AMAZON

Tack Cloth

I am quite sure I have already featured these on a Prime Post but they deserve a repost. ~smile~ I just had to replenish my stock as I am never without them.  These are the greatest cloths to dust your blinds, plantation shutters and baseboards.  They are, just as they say, a tack cloth.  They get every bit of dust there is to get and leave the surface dust free.  They are also great for preparing an item to paint. They leave NO sticky residue on anything except your hands and it is easily washed off with soap and water.  I always wear my disposable gloves when using mine.  I promise you will find more uses for these jewels.

Airpod  Case Cover

I am sure most all of you know about these but, just in case you don't, I'll tell you about them.  I haven't owned my ear pods all  that long but, my goodness, I do love them.  And, this cover is so neat to store the case in and it has the hook that can conveniently hang on your purse.  I don't use mine often outside the house but when I do I love having the convenience of this cover.  And, it comes it all kinds of great colors.

Traditional  Tall Lamps

I wanted some new bedside table lamps for one of our guest bedrooms.  These are just perfect and certainly look more expensive than the pair cost.  If you are looking for a lamp then you should really check out Amazon.  They have all kinds, all prices and all styles.  These are exactly what I was looking for and I'm very pleased.

And, there you have it for this month's Prime Purchases.  Hope you found something that you can't live without.  And, have yourself a good rest of the week!
