Wednesday Hodgepodge

It's Wednesday and that means it's Hodgepodge time with Joyce.  Enjoy!
1.  Are you a force to be reckoned with? In what way?
Well, I can be..........In the past 2+ years that my Dad has been sick that description has been said of me in reference to his care.  I have been his advocate and during his long hospital stays and while in the nursing facility, I was definitely a force to be reckoned with.  All I expected was that the folks take care of his needs and as long as they did, all was good.  But, there were times they failed and that's when I began howling.  I pray if I need an advocate that I'll have one as good as myself. ~just sayin'~

2. What are two things you love about the wintertime? Or, if love feels like too strong a word, what are two things you 'like' about winter?
I'm glad Joyce threw the word "like" in there because I do not love winter at all.  But, I do enjoy sweaters and boots, so that would be my two things I like about winter.  And, I do enjoy getting cozy with an afghan in my recliner on a cold evening.  So, guess that makes 3.

3. Pomegranate, kumquat, persimmon, kiwi, and guava are all fruits said to have health benefits, particularly during the winter months. Do you have a favorite on the list? Are there any on the list you haven't tried?
Oh, this is terrible but I have never tried any of these.  I am not a fruit lover either and I really do hate that because fruit is so good for you.  I do enjoy good grapes and an apple occasionally, but that's about it. ~shame on me~  And, why anyone wants to ruin a delicious Broccoli Salad by putting raisins in it is beyond me! Ugh!

  4. I passed a local church yesterday and noticed they had this on their outdoor sign- 'When all else fails, do the right thing.' Your thoughts?
Well,it definitely sounds good and it is a very good concept, but as we know, sometimes even doing the right thing, you can fail.  But, I do believe we all benefit in the long run by "doing the right thing."

5. Do you ski? According to one list I've seen, the top 5 ski destinations for 2014 are-St. Anton Austria, Whistler Canada, Cortina Italy, Tahoe USA, and Zermatt Switzerland.  Of the five listed, which would you most like to visit? We can make skiing optional if that helps the non-skiers with their answer.
Thank goodness, skiing is optional!  I've have never had a desire to ski but I would love to visit Switzerland.  All the beauty I see in pictures, I'd love to see in person.

6.  What's the last thing you looked for online? (Besides my blog!)I looked up how to do something on Outlook.  It's something that I had not done in a long, long time and I had to refresh my memory.  Of course, I found the answer in a flash and had the task taken care of. ~oh, the joy of the internet~

7. What saying, slogan, quote, or motto have you seen lately that inspires you for the new year?

This caught my eye on Pinterest the other day..........

8.  Insert your own random thought here.

Last season of American Idol just about did me in!  I didn't watch it like I had in previous years and Nikki whatever her name is was absolutely pitiful!  Apparently AI got the message from their viewers and it appears that they have a revamped season beginning tonight with some decent judges.  I am half way excited and only hope that I am not disappointed.  If so, then I'll probably hang it up forever.  Time will tell..............

  1. I don't put raisins in my broccoli salad ... but then, I'm not a raisin fan. But I do put in quartered red grapes instead, so you probably wouldn't like my broccoli salad. Sorry! ;-)

  2. You reminded me of another time I was a force to be reckoned with and that was of course taking care of my mother...oh my, you REALLY have to be don't you? And as for fruit or specifically raisins in broccoli salad...LOVE them! lol And didn't know American Idol was on tonight, thanks for the reminder. I am with you though, they need to vamp it up. Enjoy your day!

  3. I think in this day and age we all need to be advocates for our own health, and for those we love. We can no longer neccessarily expect the right thing to be done. I hope if I ever need an advocate I've got one like you : )

  4. I see we feel the same way about winter! ha!! I'm looking forward to American Idol starting tonight. I love Keith Urban and really, I always love all aspects of the show….the funny bad singers in the beginning, then the great ones that come out of it… and the judges. Nicki WAS odd but still "entertaining". Bring it on!!

  5. I've sort of lost my zest for watching AI the past few years, but I'll give it another chance! Hopefully, we won't be disappointed...time will tell! I do love the auditions! I'm not a huge lover of fruit, either. I like veggies much better.

  7. I absolutely love the quote for #7! And, although I didn't put this in my answer, I think the only fruit I've tried is kiwi. : )

  10. Good for you with your answer to #1. Not a fan of American Idol because of their judges-so I may just tune in tonight. Love the quote.

  11. If we can't be advocates for our parents if and when they need us to be, how in the world can we ever expect to have an advocate when we need one. I am so glad I was also able to stand up and make sure Mother received the care she needed. Try getting your fruit in your smoothies. But don't try it with raisins. Won't work!

  12. My 'force to be reckoned with' would be similar to yours. When I was caring for my ill husband and his many long hospital stays, the nurses learned that when I walked in, it was time to make sure I got all of his labs and info for the day. They treated him well and actually were very kind to me, I did always attempt to temper my need for the days information with loads of grace!! And, I used to live a bit SE of Lake Tahoe and Loved skiing there, however now that I live in AZ, I am delighted with our winters - it is summer that eats me up. :) God Bless!

  13. I am with you on the afgan and the recliner on a winter's night. Sounds like a plan for me tonight!

"Do the right thing" is such a relative term, but "Seek Him and he will direct your paths"--When all else fails!

  14. I almost gave up on American Idol too last season. But so far I've enjoyed the judges. Harry Connick Jr is great. I love his music and have to confess that we used to listen to his father's music as kids in our home.
