The Wednesday Hodgepodge

I've been remiss in participating in the Hodgepodge recently.  Sorry, but life has just gotten in the way. But, looking forward to today's questions...........

1. August 24th is National Waffle Day...what's something you've 'waffled' on recently?

Webster's defines waffling as failing to make up one's mind

I can't think of a thing that I have waffled on recently.  I don't generally struggle making up my mind but I'm sure there  have been times I waffled, I just can't recall it right now.

2. Do you like waffles? Make your own or 'leggo my Eggo? Any favorite toppings or add-ins? Waffles or pancakes-which do you prefer?

I love waffles. I do have a waffle iron but it has not been used in years. I keep Eggo's in the freezer. I want nothing but butter and syrup, no other topping for me. I'll always choose waffles over pancakes but it has been ages since I have had either one.

3. Do you have any momentos from this summer (or past summers)? What do you do with them?

Well, I haven't kept mementos from any thing in a very long time.

But, as you know, I recently had a BIG birthday and my family gifted me with a sash and a crown.  I kept them and have them in a ziploc bag in my storage room.  I just couldn't seem to get rid of them right away.  Who knows if I will still have them in a year. ~time will tell~

4. One thing you'd like to do before summer ends?

Hummm..........other than the heat, I feel that summer has ended because the schools have all started.  And, I can't really think of one thing I want/need to do before it ends. I can say that I am more than ready for fall to arrive!

5. Life is too short to not make everyday count!

6. Insert your own random thought here.

And, this my friends, is Professor Broome! Bridget moved into her office at Oklahoma State several days ago, butyesterday was her first day to have students.  Quite a difference for her going from elementary kids to college kids.  She is beyond excited!  I did not know that she would be called Professor before she finished her doctorate but she is.  It's on the sign outside her office.  And, in a little over two more years (Lord willing) she will be Professor, Doctor Bridget Broome.  I have not a clue how she does it, but she is a very driven gal as well as highly organized and has a hands on husband. It's the only way she can pursue such a goal at this time in her life.  She makes us very proud!

July Prime Purchases

And, here it is, the first Tuesday of August.  And, that can only mean one thing, it is time for Prime Purchases.  It's a favorite of mine to create and it seems to be a favorite of many of my readers.  I don't think you will be disappointed with this months.  Hopefully you will find something that appeals to you or someone you love.  Enjoy!

SILK  THROW  BLANKET

If you are in the market for a throw or need a gift for someone, this might meet your need.  These are the softest, silky throws I've ever felt.  They come in some great colors and are neatly rolled inside a nice silky bag.  I got these for gifts but, if I needed any more throws, I'd definitely get one.

HP  PRINTER, SCAN AND FAX

I am a HUGE fan of HP printers! It's the only brand I've owned for years and years.  They are so easy to use, and do an awesome job.  I love the scan, fax and print capability and at some point I use all of them.  My last 2 printers have had that feature.  If you are in the market for a new printer, I highly recommend HP.  And, it's wireless! That makes the set up very easy.

DECORATIVE  ORIENTAL  FISH  BOWL

A sweet friend gave me a Peace Lily a couple of weeks ago and I found this beautiful container to set it in.  It is the perfect fit and looks lovely in it.  This piece would be pretty without anything in it as the inside is just as pretty as the outside.  I was thrilled to find this.

EXFOLIATING  SHOWER  TOWEL

I think I saw this on someone else's post but, I can't remember who it was.  It is the greatest shower towel for washing your back.  I've always used the back brushes for that but this is sooooo much better.  And, it has the exfoliating feature.  It lathers up nicely and could easily be used as your wash cloth.  I prefer a sponge so I only use it for my back.  It dries quickly and washes up nicely.  I just throw it in with our towels and then hang it to dry and do not put it in the dryer.

LEMI  SHINE  APPLIANCE  CLEANER

I may have featured this is a past post but, if you missed that, you need to know about this.  It is the greatest appliance cleaner and it is good for your garbage disposal, your washing machine and your dishwasher.  It's so nice to have one cleaner do them all, and it's so easy to use.

AMAZON

NAIL  BUFFING  BLOCKS

In February of this year I stopped having my nails overlaid.  I had them overlaid for almost 30 years but I knew it wasn't healthy for my nails and the time had come to STOP!  Talk about painful! It took 4 months for my nails to grow completely out with all new nails.  Ugh! They were so ugly and I didn't like it at all.  But, this past month has been so much better.  They have grown to a nice length and are fairly healthy.  All this means that I now do my own nails. By doing my own nails, I mean filing them and I keep nail strengthener  on them along with a very pale pink color.  I LOVE these nail filing blocks so much better than a nail file.  They are easier to use for me and are the perfect grit for fingernails.  They come 12 to a pack for $9.00, enough to share with a few friends. And, they're in such pretty colors.

BACK  VITALIZER  LUMBAR INFLATABLE  PILLOW

If you have any lower back issues, you would likely LOVE this inflatable pillow.  I have been using them for about 13 years in our vehicles.  It makes the biggest difference and I only have 2-3 puffs of air in mine.  I don't even understand how they work but they do!  It's as though your back just sort of floats. They show many other uses for them but I've always just used mine in the car and I also take it with me when we fly.  It folds in half very easily and will fit down in a carry on tote.

HAND  SANITIZER  WIPES

I have been using hand wipes for many years, long before Covid.  I prefer the ones in this type of packaging rather than the round containers.  I keep a package of these in the console of our vehicles and I use them ALL the time.  These came 6 to a case and 60 to a package.  These are so easy to get out of the package and I love the way they snap shut.

AMAZON

THEATER  STYLE  POPCORN  BUTTER

Again, as you know, I'm a big fan of popcorn.  I generally just buy the bags of pre-popped by Skinny Girl.  And, I take it up a notch by spraying this buttery goodness on it.  No joke, it is so good and has 0 calories.  If you like buttered popcorn but don't want the calories, then this is for you.

ERASABLE  GEL  PENS

Who doesn't need an eraser on a pen from time to time.  I love these and they are what I use on our calendar for our appointments, engagements and such.  I love my IPhone calendar but I still want a big grid calendar hanging that I can write on and look at to see whose got what in the week ahead.  And, I'm always having to change a date or a time and now I can do it without making a mess of my calendar.  These erasers work great and leave not a trace.

SESEME  STICKS

I'm also a fan of Seseme Sticks and these are some of the best I've ever eaten.  They can be hard to find in stores but I found these on Amazon.  They taste great and have just the right amount of crunch. Amazon also has some with a hot and spicy flavor but, for me, they aren't near as good as these.  And, I'm a big fan of hot and spicy but these just didn't appeal to me.

SAKROOTS  BACKPACK

I got this to take on my trip to Israel in November.  I had several criteria I wanted a backpack to meet and this one met them all.  Plus, it's so good looking!  It not only can be a backpack but a shoulder or arm bag as well.  It has height enough for me to put my back vitalizer in when folded in half.  If you a need for a backpack, you definitely need to check this one out and it comes it several more cute, cute patterns.

CLEAR  VINYL  PURSE

We will going to Oklahoma in September and while there, will be attending an Oklahoma State football game.  They require clear handbags/purses to get in to the stadium.  There are lots of styles on Amazon but this was a favorite of mine and very inexpensive.  It seems that more and more venues are now requiring these type bags.  I guess that is a definite sign of the times we are living in. ~sad~

Okie, dokie, there you have it, my Prime Purchases for July.

Brought to tears.............

Hubby asked me 3-4 weeks ago where I would like to go to dinner for my birthday.  I told him and he "said" he made reservations for us and 7 others.  I got ready and we left to go and pick up our friend, Gerri.  She was riding with us to the restaurant.  The road to her house in rather long and then she has a long and winding driveway off of that. Well, when we made the last curve and her house was in view I saw that there were lots of cars at her house and I saw balloons, a banner and lots of dear friends on her front porch.

My heart began to race as we neared the front porch and by this time I had figured out that "someone" had planned a surprise birthday party for me.  As you can see from the photos I was completely overcome, totally surprised and brought to tears.

I think I likely had the perfect reaction that anyone wants when they work hard to surprise someone.  I cannot believe I did not have an inkling!

It was all Hubby's idea and then he enlisted the help of these two dear, dear friends to bring it to pass.  He knew with them guiding him, it would be done right and it definitely was. It was perfection!  After talking with Gerri (on the right in top pic) she told Hubby she wanted to host the dinner in her home.  Tommy was going to have it catered and  the told her to contact Andrea (The Flower Tree) about the flowers.  That still left tables to be set and just general preparation for such an event.  But, Gerri, did it all with such style and grace in her beautiful home.

The floral arrangements were just gorgeous, all done by  my favorite floral designer here in town.

I have a long history with each and every person that was there and it just made my heart even more thankful for the gift of friendship.

Everyone in attendance had a wonderful time.  The meal was delicious and the wait staff did such an awesome job with serving, picking up and cleaning up. Not one complaint. They never missed a beat! After dinner we all gathered in the living area for a time of reminiscing and what fun to share in days gone by.

AND, this man right here is a jewel!  He loves to take pictures about as much as I do and he knew that I would want pictures of absolutely EVERYTHING and he made sure that happened.  He was snapping before I arrived, when I arrived and all during the celebration.  I was more than a little appreciative of him giving of his time to do this so that I would have pictures to look back on in the years to come.

And, this man!  Well, I think I'll keep him around a while longer.  We working on year #52 currently and in these 51+ years of marriage he has never even come close to surprising me to the point of absolutely taking my breath away and bringing me to tears.  Needless to say, it was a celebration I will remember forever.

And, as if that wasn't enough............he has given me a trip to Israel.  I have always wanted to go and he cares nothing about going.

So, this dear, dear friend and I are going together as her husband cares nothing about going either. We are beside ourselves with excitement.  We will go the first of Nov. for 10 days.

So, that's a wrap for my 70th birthday.  I'll lay it to rest and "keep on keeping on" and look forward to what lies ahead.
