Wednesday Hodgepodge

As most of you know, I went on a long weekend trip to DesMoines and I'm still trying to get "back on track."  Good grief, it just really shouldn't be this hard.  But, I'm such a creature of habit and when I'm out of my routine for a day or two, I struggle to get it back.  But, enough of that and on to answer Joyce's question of the week.

1. They say you learn something new every day. What did you learn yesterday?
I had a gal come yesterday and tutor me on a couple of computer processes concerning photos.  While she was here she also showed me the feature "Notes" in Outlook.  I mean, I can't believe I've never known about it and it was stuck right there in my face.  I will enjoy using this so much.  It's the little things that make me happy. ~chuckle~

2. Have you ever had a now or never moment? Elaborate.

I am pretty sure I have had several but, for the life of me, I cannot recall one right now. Sorry!

3.  April 25th is National Telephone Day. Do you still have a land line or have you gone mobile only? When you receive a text message do you respond immediately? Last time you turned your phone off?  In two or three sentences share with us a story/memory/incident from your childhood (or something current if that's too hard) where the telephone is featured.

We do still have a land line and feel that we need to due to Hubby's business but it is rarely used.

I am pretty prompt in responding to text messages.  I rarely turn my phone off but I do silence it on certain occasions and I have it set to "Do Not Disturb" from 10:00PM - 6:00 AM except for our kids and my Daddy.

Oh, my goodness, I could tell some really good stories from my childhood about the phone. For years we had a party line and on more than one occasion I would be rude to others sharing our line. I wasn't ugly, just did silly stuff that was rude.  What was I thinking? Shame on me!  And, girlfriends and I made prank calls on more than one occasion too.  Again, shame, shame!

4. Close call, at someone's beck and call, call the shots, call a meeting, call it quits, call in sick, call on the carpet, wake up call...which call have you 'heard' recently? Explain.

While out of town last week I got an email from Verizon that I only had 25% data usage left on my phone and still had 22 days left on our billing cycle.  I mean really!!! Talk about a close call, I had 1% left when I got home.  Needless to say, I was calling Verizon Monday morning to get to the bottom of the issue.  I sure don't want to have to be paying for data overage.

5. What subject do you wish you'd paid more attention to in school?

It would be Geography because I am one of the most directionally challenged folks on the face of the earth.  It has been a real determent to me until navigation systems came into existence.  Don't give me directions using east, west, north or south.  I need land marks and turn left and turn right. Navigation systems were made for ME!

6. Insert your own random thought here.

One of the hi-lites of my trip to Des Moines was meeting Erin from Simple Purposeful Living. I started following Erin's blog about a year ago and soon afterwards found out she lived within 15 miles of my brother and his family.  She was just as I expected, a real jewel and even though I'm wayyy old enough to be her Momma, we thoroughly enjoyed visiting with each other for almost 2 hours.  I look forward to another visit for sure.  It's just so much fun to meet fellow bloggers and being able to make that personal connection.

  1. What fun to meet a fellow blogger! I enjoyed reading your answers today and related to your answer on the "now or never" moment. Like you, I'm sure I've had several. Could I think of one? Of course not!

Have a lovely rest of the week!

  3. I can relate to so much of this, friend! While I reply to texts fairly promptly I do switch my phone to do not disturb for those exact same hours of the day! I, too, am very directionally challenged! I am with you in needing to hear landmarks rather than words like "north" which mean nothing to me - ha! I love that you were able to meet a blogging friend in person! I've had the joy of meeting a blogging friend and a reader in person and both have become dear friends! This fall a family road trip will take me within 10 minutes of another dear blogging friend and we are anticipating a fun hour or two chatting over ice creams with our families! Seeing your meet up makes me even more excited for that! Thanks for sharing this fun post! Wishing you a beautiful day ahead!

  4. Don't you love meeting new bloggers? I will have to go over and check out Erin's blog. I give up what is "notes" in outlook? Btw.. I can't picture you ever being rude!! Have a wonderful week, Lea.

  6. Lea, you could have been describing my life when you were talking about that party line...LOL! I remember doing the very same thing. We had a neighbor who was really gabby and when she got on the phone she had a hard time getting off. My sister and I used to eavesdrop on her conversations and make noises on the phone to provoke her to get off! Those were the days! How fun to have met your blogging friend! I have been able to meet one so far but there are too many to count on the list of those I'd love to meet...you included! Enjoy the rest of your week!

  7. I remember party lines. Both my grandmothers had them and I thought they were such a nuisance. I am directionally challenged, too! Couldn't find my way out of a paper bag! I'm so glad you got to meet another blogger!

  8. Reading your blog answers was almost like reading what I wrote. How fun to finally meet someone you already call a cyber friend. There are several I follow that I would love to meet and spend time with too. So glad you had a great trip.

  9. We used to make prank phone calls too. Caller ID ended that for kids I guess, which is probably a good thing. I should have said geography! You and I should never travel together without a GPS : )

  10. Lea, I must confess as a teen, I made a few prank calls. We still have a landline, it is good to know there are still a few of us left. I always reply to texts quickly. How fun to meet other bloggers...Happy Wednesday!

  11. Hmm... notes in Outlook? Sounds interesting! Ditto that on geography! I'm much better if you give me landmarks to follow! Also, isn't North, UP and South, Down . . . lol

  12. Laughing now about the party lines Lea. I can recall those days of party lines too. Oh did I ever get in trouble a few times from the neighbors for either picking up too many times to see if they were off the phone or talking too long myself! LOL! So glad you got to meet another blogger. How precious. We still have a landline at home as well. We have too because as of right now our cell service does not extend to my home in the country. I dislike paying land line and cell but we have no choice now. But I think to myself, "What would we do without any form of communication? Well, I guess we would do the best we could huh? LOL! Have a great rest of your day Lea. Hugs and blessings, Cindy
P.S. popping over to visit your blogging friend.

  13. About navigation systems...we have a GPS
I have learned if you don't have some idea of where you're going they can either get you lost, or take you the long way around. For someone who is directionally challenged and can't read a map a GPS can get me lost. Thank God for the Go Home button. Push it and it directs me to home base.

  17. How nice to have someone to the house to teach you some things on the computer. How nice to meet a blogger your follow. I've meet three so far.

  18. We still have a land-line too. I feel like we need it but I seldom answer it:). Enjoy your weekend dear friend. Hope you get adjusted to being back at home. I always have trouble after I return from a trip too. Hugs

  19. Oh my goodness! How fun that you got to meet Erin! Isn't life crazy?! We still have a land line too. I hate talking on my cell phone and the reception in our house is terrible, so I like my land line for talking to my parents and the occasional girl friend. I am totally with you on geography. I did terrible in that subject and don't know where hardly any thing is on a map and can barely read one. Having said that, I do have a good sense of direction, but I'm not allowed (by Kent) to say right or left, because I've said turn "right/left" way too many times and meant the other way...LOL. He know requires a visual! HA! Have the best weekend!!! XOXO
