Hodgepodge Questions-Volume 37

1. The US of A celebrated Memorial Day this past Monday. Does your family have any military ties? If so, tell us about them.

Hubby's Dad was in the Army as Combat Engineer and served during WWII.

My Dad was in the Navy as a Pattern Maker, and served in the Korean War.

2. Cole slaw, potato salad, baked beans, potato chips, mac and cheese, macaroni salad...your favorite BBQ side? How many of these do you make from scratch vs. buying from the deli?
I make a good cole slaw, great baked beans and decent mac and cheese.  All the others, I will buy, don't think I can make them any better or as good.  The red skinned potato salad at the Wal-Mart deli is the all time best. ~in my opinion~

3.  I enjoyed asking this question back when the Hodgepodge was a regular thing...Lake Superior State University posts a list each year of words they think should be banished from the Queen's English for misuse, overuse, and/or general uselessness. The 2020 list includes-quid pro quo, artisanal, curated, influencer, literally, I mean, living my best life, mouthful (word used by foodies to describe texture of food in their mouth), chirp (basically an insult, you can read more on the website), jelly (short for jealous), totes (short for totally), vibe, and OK Boomer (internet response from millenial to older generation).

Of the words/phrases listed which would you most like to see 'banned'?
Well, most of these I am not the least familiar with but I could go the rest of my life and never hear the words quid pro quo.  They have been worn slam out!!!

4. I'm sure next year's list will be filled with words springing out of this weird season we're all in currently. What word or phrase associated with the Corona would you be happy to hear less often?
Social distancing.  Good grief, I am so weary of it all.  Hubby and I went out to eat last week at one of our favorite places and it was so weird and not even fun because they aren't allowed to  have a handful of people right now.  I definitely believe the Corona is very real but I think it has been wayyyyy over hyped and has a whole bunch of political mess attached to it. ~I'll hush~

5.  The month of May wraps up in just a few days. Bid her adieu in ten words or less.
Best part, finally getting to see our Oklahoma family.

6. Insert your own random thought here.

Hubby and I have been discussing having a pergola built since we built this house almost 5 years ago.  Well, last week construction was begun and it is almost finished.  We are most pleased and think when we get it all "decked out" that it is going to be a lovely addition to our patio area.  When it's completely finished  and "decked out" I'll post some pics.

Have a great rest of the week!

  5. Hi from another Hodge Podger! I loved the nostalgic pictures of your military kin folk ... such brave men (and women). Have a great day and hoping June will be more "normal" for us all ....

  6. The pergola will be lovely! My brother had one built and I so enjoyed sitting out under it. I'm so with you on the overhype of all this.

  7. I am literally totes jelly of your pergola lol : ) We would love to have one here too, but need to figure out where. Yours looks lovely! I absolutely think there is mucho politics attached to the decisions being made/not made. At this point I feel like those who are not high risk (most people) need to get back to work and kids need to go back to school, because one can't reasonably happen without the other. I think high risk folks are going to have to continue to make decisions that are right for them. As far as schools go there are going to be some teachers and some students who cannot safely return to the classroom yet, so can we not set up at risk teachers with online classrooms for at risk students? I am so glad I'm not the one in charge.

  8. I agree, there is a whole bunch of political stuff connected with Covid-19. Hooray for your Oklahoma visit. Your construction looks beautiful. Enjoy!

  10. "worn slam out" I literally laughed out loud. Is this a Southern saying or just something you say? Whatever it is, I love it.
    Your pergola is fabulous!

  11. "Amen" to your response to #4.

Your pergola is gorgeous and it's not even done in the picture. I KNOW it will be a real asset to your scenery and entertaining. I most definitely want to see pictures when it's complete!!!!

  12. Oh I would enjoy that pergola for sure! How nice it will be for you. Enjoyed your answers. I must say I make good side items for a BBQ. My least favorite thing to make is potato salad. Crazy I know. I make a mean dish of baked beans and mac and cheese. I have a long line of military guys in the family. My papa served in the Navy, my brother in the Navy, my uncle in the Airforce, my soninlove in the Marines and I have a nephew still in the Navy. Love the RED, WHITE and BLUE. Hugs and blessings dear Lea. Cindy

  14. The pergola is looking great! Like you, I don't recognize some of those words but quid pro quo has got to go!!!!! Talk about over use!!! And, once again, I'm wishing you lived next door and we could "social distance" in the backyard and have a discussion about all this virus stuff...cause I agree with what you said. I have said over and over it's so hard to know who and what to believe and I'm about tired of trying! So glad you will get to see your OK family soon. I don't think I could have survived all this if I hadn't been able to continue to see my two grandchildren. They are my heart and soul. Sad about your restaurant experience...we haven't done that yet and now I don't think I want to!!! It's all just sooooo sad...and frustrating!

  16. Your dad is so handsome, my Dad did two tours of duty in Korea, he came home with so many sad memories of the things he saw
You are going to really enjoy the pergola, it looks beautiful!

  17. Oh, Lea, what a grand pergola you are getting. We have sure enjoyed ours. I saw one in the neighborhood with a type of screening over the top beams and think that would make ours even better. It is so hot here and we are still pretty much sitting in the sun when we are under the pergola until early evening.
Your military men sure were cuties. I am a softy for a man in a uniform, anyway. But especially love seeing the soldiers from The Greatest Generation.

  18. Omg I Finally Got Helped  !! I'm so excited right now, I just have to share my testimony on this Forum.. The feeling of being loved takes away so much burden from our shoulders. I had all this but I made a big mistake when I cheated on my wife with another woman  and my wife left me for over 4 months after she found out..  I was lonely, sad and devastated. Luckily I was directed to a very powerful spell caster Dr Emu who helped me cast a spell of reconciliation on our Relationship and he brought back my wife and now she loves me far more than ever.. I'm so happy with life now. Thank you so much Dr Emu, kindly Contact  Dr Emu Today and get any kind of help you want.. Via Email emutemple@gmail.com or Call/WhatsApp +2347012841542
