The 34th Monday of 2017..........and if you do not know that today is the day for the Total Eclipse of the Sun then you most definitely must live under a rock. More about that later............Meanwhile, let's look at some sweet "back to school" photos.
It's been such fun to see all the back to school photos on Facebook this past week. Hanna Beth started last Friday and was so excited about her teacher. They had the cutest photo props up for the Moms to use in taking their pictures. Goodness, teachers are amazing in all the cute and cleaver ideas they come up with. It made the first day of school all the more exciting!
Clancy is a big 3rd grader this year and it will be the first year that his Momma hasn't taught at the same school he attended. She moved up to the intermediate school, so he'll be there in 2 short years and then eventually little Coleman will start. ~grin~
Speaking of Clancy, let me introduce you to Black Face and White Face, Clancy's sheep. Yes, I know, their names do leave a little to be desired, but they are going to be "show sheep" not pets. I don't know if that had anything to do with the name choice or not, but anyway.......... He got them about 2 weeks ago and as they say, sheep are VERY dumb and Clancy has worked hard in training these sheep to follow his lead. Oklahoma is big time into showing animals and as soon as Black and White Face are ready Clancy will be entering them in shows. I'll keep you posted!
And, on a totally different note..........Are you interested in your ancestry? I am to a point but I've never done any research on mine. My Mom loved it and did trace hers back quite a ways before she died. Well, while watching TV, my Daddy saw the ad for this ancestry DNA kit and he called me and told me he wanted me to order one for him that he wanted to see what he might discover. Well, the last couple of weeks this kit has been on sale for $69.95 instead of the usual $99.95, so that made it even better. Tommy has always had an interest in his ancestry but he's never done to much research either. But, when I told him that I was going to order Daddy a kit he decided that he wanted me to order him one as well. So, I ordered the 2 kits and they came in about 6 days. It's a simple, simple test. They provide a small tube for you to collect a small amount of your saliva in, package it up as directed in the package and they provide a box to mail it back in. You will be emailed your results in 6-8 weeks. So, we wait patiently for their results.
Okay, so where will you be or where were you during the elipse today? I will be right here inside our house looking out the back windows but I will NOT be looking at the sun at all. No, wouldn't even chance that with special glasses on. I value my eyes wayyyy toooooo much!!! It is to happen here in our neck of the woods around 1:21 PM. I think the last time I remember this much hype over something was Y2K. Here's to the eclipse!!!!
Oh I can't wait to see what you find out with the ancestry test and I agree 100% on the hype of the solar eclipse. I love that God made our universe so infinite and cool but it seems that everyone has gone crazy over it! We will be keeping an eye out with our special glasses while the littlest one naps ;). xoxo ERIN
ReplyDeleteLOL - Y2K -- I remember THAT hype for sure! We did get the ISO approved glasses and had the checked out to make sure they're okay but even so, I won't be staring long and hard at it! Those school pics are precious -- how the time flies!! I haven't gotten into the Ancestry thing although I'd like to some day.
ReplyDeleteYes, a lot of hype for a few moments of disappointment. We were supposed to have about a 94% eclipse. I was at work and taking selfies with the sun behind me...hardly got dark at all. You can see my facebook post for details. :D
ReplyDeleteHere in Jacksonville the eclipse was anti-climatic because we were socked in with clouds and rain. Just a little south of us, in St. Augustine on the beach, it was clear. Go figure.
ReplyDeleteAnyway, the house got darker and darker -- and it hasn't lightened up much since the show was over -- due to our clouds! We were supposed to get 91% darker. I guess we did ...
Looking forward to more stories about the goats!
When I started reading this, I'm thinking please don't let Lea look at the eclipse even with glasses on, here I was, all worried about your eyes!! Love Clancy's sheep and Ancestry fascinates me! I hope your week gets off to a wonderful start!
ReplyDeleteAll I my glasses all ready, but where my husband and I were for our anniversary get away was nothing but fog. I've enjoyed looking at all of the images on social media.
ReplyDeleteExcited to hear about your Ancestry DNA results. We did ours last year and it helped to confirm all the genealogical research we've done. After all my grandparents and my dad passed away, I realized I was the only one interested enough to gather all our family trees, letters, photos, memorabilia etc. and preserve it for future generations.
ReplyDeleteSo many cute little ones! The Eclipse was awesome and I shared the event with my Daughter! My Daughter and Son-in-law received their DNA results recently from Ancestry DNA:) Enjoy your day dear friend, HUGS!
ReplyDeleteWell I worked while the Eclipse was happening but it was so cloudy that you couldn't see anything at my work. However, I did see some really cool pictures posted by friends on facebook. I have thought about doing the ancestor kit too but never have. I might be scared of what I might find out! LOL! Hoping you are having a great day and by the way...your grands are adorable. That sheep is a cutie too! Hugs and blessings, Cindy
ReplyDeleteBeautiful school photos, Lea, starting the new school year was always so much fun for us! I have wanted to order a kit for both f us, but have put it off! However our oldest son just ordered his kit, I am so anxious to see the results!
ReplyDeleteGood luck to your grandson on raising his sheep, you know I just adore sheep! Have a blessed day,
Sue
Hard to believe school's starting already. I do love this time of year and always have to buy myself some notebooks and pencils, haha! It was too cloudy here to see much of the eclipse, and I was afraid of hurting my eyes too!
ReplyDeleteI think the ancestry DNA test would be interesting but we've got some genealogy records going back -- all Scottish/English here. Let us know what you find out! Blessings, Deborah
Oh wow, it'll be really interesting to hear the results of the Ancestry DNA tests! As for the eclipse, it was about 80% coverage here in Vancouver. The temperature dropped considerably, shadows grew longer and the inside of the house got rather darkish but other than that I have to say it was pretty much a nonevent. As with you, I refused to look anywhere near the direction of the sun. Tempting, but no.
