Wednesday Hodgepodge

Yes siree, it's Wednesday and that means, questions by Joyce and answers by Lea.

1. April showers bring May flowers or so the saying goes. Is there a flower you associate with a particular memory? Explain.

Not really a particular flower but all flowers in general cause me to think of my husband.  He loves beautiful flowers as much as any man I know and he always makes sure that our yard is just as full as it can possibly be of them. This is a picture taken this past Sunday morning of one of his beautiful Iris'.

2. Last time you helped someone? Tell us how.

On Monday I helped my Dad learn out to use a Keurig coffee pot.  Bless his sweet hear, he only has about 30% vision so this type task is sooo hard for him but he wanted a little coffee pot in his efficiency apartment.  I got him a mini-Keurig (I didn't even know they made such) with the most simple operation in hopes that he could handle the task.  We went over the process several times, open the pod holder, place the pod in and then press the desired size and above all, make sure you have your mug under the outlet.  Oh, that is a whole, whole lot for him to master but we shall see  how it goes.  There is always coffee down in the dining area but, as he would say, it's so old it's grown whiskers and strong enough to walk out the door.  So, he wanted his own pot where he could have a fresh cup in the afternoons.  And, I am there most afternoons so I can brew it for him but he still enjoys doing as much as possible for himself.  Bless him!

3. It's National Salsa Month (the food, not the dance) so tell us, do you like salsa? Hot, medium, or mild? Homemade, store bought, or from your favorite restaurant only?

Indeed I do like it and the hotter the better!  We have a local Mexican restaurant that serves a very good medium hot Salsa.  I don't imagine a restaurant is going to serve a hot Salsa because the majority of folks want it mild or medium.  But, give me some hot Salsa and chips and I can put it away but I pretty much whatever kind is available.

4. When I was twelve years old...

When I was 12 years old my Momma had a baby and it was one of the most exciting times in my life.  I claimed him as my own and still do to this day.  The picture above was taken when he was 4-5 months old and it not a great picture at all but it brings back soooooo many memories for me.  None of us look all that happy for sure but especially my Mom and other brother.  Daddy and I sort of have a half grin and look my glasses.  Was I stylin' or what?

5. It's the first of May so let's run with it-first things first, don't know the first thing about it, first dibs on something, first impression, first rate, first cousin, first string, first come first served, at first light-which phrase can best be applied to something in your life currently or even recently?

I'm going to say, first impression.  Our neighbors daughter is graduating from high school and while I don't really know her all that well, I wanted to give her something for graduation.  We had a bit of a time connecting so she just stopped by one afternoon last week and picked it up.  I'm not sure we had ever officially met, but have done a lot of waving up and down our street.  Well, let me just say, she could not have impressed me any more if she had tried last week.  I told her Mom she was such a lovely young lady, so polite, hugged my neck, expressed her appreciation for the gift in such a sweet way.  My heart was full and encouraged when she left.  There really are some great kids in this world!

6. Insert your own random thought here.

I probably should save this for my "favorites post" but I'm going to go ahead and share it with you today.  You can thank me later. ~smile~  I found these Liverpool jeggings at one of local boutiques about a month ago and fell in love with them.  They had a very limited number so I clicked over to Nordstroms and they have every style of Liverpool jean made.  If you like the ones pictured above, you can click here to find them.  And, they are so reasonably priced at $79.  And, that's my random thought for today.

  2. Most definitely some great teenagers in the world today. With hub's sickness I have found that out....many come and offer to mow, sit and talk with him, hug him, and tell him they love him-warms my heart.
    Beautiful pic of the flower.

  3. Lea,

I just read your short bio at the end. Is CiCi what your grandkids call you? What if anything does it mean? You have me intrigued as I'm going to be a grandmother in November. I'm trying to figure out, do I want to be call grandma or mamaw? Both seem to make me feel older than I want and thought if I gave myself a different label then somehow I won't feel my age. lol I'm still young at heart so isn't that the most important thing anyhow?

I had a flashback to my my early motherhood years when I saw your poor mother's exhaustion in that photo. It's hard to smile when you're so tired. I bet you remember that feeling well, too.

I enjoyed reading your responses to this week's questions. Have a funtastic week and please keep DH in prayer tomorrow. He's having combo surgery on his left eye - cataract first followed up with the oil bubble removal left over from his retina attachment procedure last year. Thanks so much!

  4. Your family photo is priceless. With all the amazing things we can do with pictures today, they just don't tell the story the way older pictures do. Love the jeans! Thanks for letting us in on them.

  5. Lea,

Your family photo is precious. I recognize your Mom, Daddy and younger brother, but didn't know you also had an elder brother.

    Have a blessed week,

  8. Oh those old family photos of yesteryear...such memories. I really would not have recognized you at all but when I looked at your father, I could see where you resemble him. At least you all had traces of smiles...unlike those tin-type pics from old, OLD days...none of those people ever smiled! LOL. Fun post!

  11. I understood what you meant when you described teaching your dad to use the Keurig coffee maker. The simplest of instructions are surprisingly hard for the elderly. We have seen this with one of my family members.

  12. Is that photograph from a church directory. It has that feel to it. We have a few of those from my childhood too : ) Your glasses though are on point! You were stylish even at age 12. I hope your Daddy was able to make himself a nice hot cup of coffee in that Keurig.

  13. We just use the single serve Keurig. I'm trying to imagine teaching my dad how to use it! Love the photo. I was the baby of the family so I can only imagine how awesome it was to have a baby in the house. So glad it all went so well with the girl next door. I'll have to check those jeans out.

  15. The picture of your 12-year old self and your family really struck me for two reasons. 1. I was 12 when my little brother was born. I had been the baby of the family all those years and it took me awhile to adjust!!! 2. Your baby brother (in this photo) looks SO much like my baby brother did...it's sort of eerie!!! But we do differ when it comes to salsa. I prefer cheese dip!! Enjoyed your post.
