Miscellany Monday

A new week, a new day, another opportunity. Let's get it started by being random with Carissa. And, hey, don't you just love her new button!!

Boo- Hoo.......
That's what I'm saying about Picnik closing it's doors on April 19th.  I mean, they didn't ask me!  Picnik is such a wonderful photo editing tool for folks like me that don't really desire any more bells and whistles than they offer.  So, what am I going to do?  I just cannot imagine that Google isn't going to have a replacement that offers the same service.  Do you know or are they holding us all in suspense?  I want in on the scoop! ~laugh~

Tears in my eyes.......
Yes, as I heard my Daddy singing Victory in Jesus yesterday morning, my eyes filled with tears.  He was able to join us for worship at church and to hear that voice that was, just a short while ago, hardly above a whisper, brought back such memories for me.  And, might I add, he was standing as he sang.  A miracle we never dreamed of witnessing and such a reminder of the greatness of God.  He still has a long ways to go but oh, how far he has come!

Why????
That's my question as I watched part of Bayou Millionaire and My Redneck Vacation on Saturday evening.  I've never even heard of these shows but Hubby was "channel surfing" and came across these and stopped.  We both watched in utter amazement at the stupidity (our opinion) of the shows and wondered why anyone would want to be portrayed in such a way.  And, both of these particular segments were filmed in Louisiana so that didn't help our feelings either.  I mean, why????

Self Portraits.....

Mandy, at A Sorta Fairytale, blogged about taking self portraits last week.   I have done this a few times but have never been successful so I grabbed my camera yesterday morning before I headed out to church and decided to give it another try.  Out of about 50 attempts, the one above was the best I could manage.  And, I suppose for a self portrait, it is okay.  Mandy talked about the importance of having your picture somewhere on your blog so that your readers can connect a face with your blog.  I couldn't agree more.  I love seeing the faces of the folks whose blogs I read.  She was advocating a self portrait as sometimes its hard to have someone handy to take a picture for you and it's way to much trouble to get your tripod out.  I'm going to keep trying and perhaps, as with a lot of things in life, "practice makes perfect."  Hubby will sure be glad since I'm always asking him to snap pictures.

A little Pinterest.......

 Happy Monday, Happy week!!

  3. This is the first I've ever heard of Picnik. I would love some photo-editing software. Just as they were shuttering. :-( I did go check out their website and they said that they're moving to Google+. I'm not sure what that means, but I am going to try to remember to go check it out after they make the move.

    What wonderful news about your dad. {{hug}}

  4. I hate the reality shows set in the south. They just reinforce sterotypes and people who've never lived there accept them as fact.

So glad your dad is doing well. Victory in Jesus was my dad's favorite hymn and I always think of him when I hear it.

  5. It is hard to keep up with all the changes that are happening on the internet. I had heard that Google is rolling out a new product in their Google plus. Have a good day.

  6. I would have been a blubbering mess hearing your daddy sing and on his feet, no less. A true miracle!

I feel very narcissistic taking self-portraits, but I have learned how to take decent ones (putting the camera above me slightly and at an angle works best).

I was sad to hear about Picnik, too. I think their editing is fun and easy. Hoping something as easy comes along soon, but glad they've given us a heads-up till April, plus the premium items free.

  7. So glad to hear the good report on your dad, Lea ~ What a blessing!

My girls like picassa {free} for photo editing ~ I haven't used it at all.

You are a lovely lady ~ the picture is great! :)

  8. Great self portrait. Next time, you may want to consider having a single background. This one has 3 different backgrounds - one on the left, one in the middle, and one on the right.

  10. girl, picnik closing is really a good thing, because they shrink your images anyway and take away the quality. so, don't cry. : )

    you pretty lady, you!

so sweet to hear your dad sing... i'm glad you were blessed with such a gift!

  11. That is a wonderful picture. I never seem to get a good one. So glad to hear about your dad and his singing in church. I haven't done much on Picnic. I use Photobucket. They have a new Picnic that is going to cost you but they will transfer your photos and let you try it for free!
I know if I had been using it I would be very angry with them.

  12. I just wanted you to know that it never occurred to me that those who read my blog might want a face to associate with the name. Once I thought about it for a minute or two, I realized that I like seeing faces with the names of the blogs I follow. So I've updated my blogger profile. ;-)

  14. Lea, Picnik is now on Picassa, so if you use that program to house your photos, you can also use Picnik to edit them there.

Think I will try the self portrait too. Haven't been successful to date. But a good idea.

    Good news about your dad.
