Hodgepodge Wednesday

1. What are three words you would use to describe your 2011?  Exciting, stressful and restoring

2. Do you like shrimp? What's your favorite way to have it prepared? As a matter of fact, Hubby and I went out to eat New Year's Day and I had fried shrimp.  I enjoy shrimp just about anyway it can be fixed.  That's a good thing when you live in Louisiana! ~wink~

3. Is your house de-Christmased? If so when did you tackle that job? If not, when will the decorations come down? Oh, my goodness, YES!!  It would have come down Christmas night but since we did not have Christmas until the day after this year, I didn't get it down until the next day.  I am soooooooooo ready for it to be down once the celebration is over and our celebration is usually over on Christmas Eve. I enjoy taking it down as much as I enjoy putting it up. ~smile~

4. Do you like to watch scary movies?
No, suspenseful movies , but not scary

5. ice skating~sledding~skiing~snowboarding~of the four listed which wintertime activity do you most enjoy?
None of the above.......I've never lived in an area where there was a lot of snow or cold, cold weather  and all that entails has zero appeal to me.  I might enjoy a long weekend at a ski lodge somewhere sitting by a roaring fire and looking at the beautiful scenery but that would be it.

6. Did you have a childhood hideout? Describe it.
I remember that my brother and I use to get a flat bed sheet and throw it over some tree limbs and make us a fort.  I don't remember ever having a hideout otherwise. I probably missed out on something as a result. ~grin~

7. What's a place or space that motivates you?
I love my big blue leather club chair that I retreat to first thing in the morning (with coffee in hand) to have my daily devotional and prayer time. It's a space in our upstairs area that is very quiet, especially at 5:30AM. This time helps to motivate me each day to "keep on keeping on" and assures me that HE is with me each step of the day no matter what may happen.

8. Insert your own random thought here.
I have never been one to give much thought to birthdays. I'm usually just happy to have another one.  But, the one I'm going to celebrate this year has caused me much thought.  I will be 60 in July and I've already done so much pondering over this and it's still 7 months away.  Oh, my! I think it's because I realize that most of my life is over and that is a most sobering thought.  Of course, I hope to have a whole lot of life left in my years and intend to go forth and be a "spunky" senior citizen.  I'm still trying to figure out where the past 50 years have gone...............so think I'll begin today doing just as this says........

  1. I'm with you on #5. If I could ever pull myself away from traveling to the beach, a ski lodge in the winter with beautiful snow-covered mountains surrounding and more snow falling would be a nice getaway. ha!

I turned 60 last year ... and you know what they say: 60 is the new 40. Still, it was quite sobering to realize that my time on this earth is well over 2/3 of the way done. And while I know where I'll go when my time here is over, I'm going to enjoy the time I have left here with those I love.

  3. I pondered turning 30 (16 yrs ago) the way you're pondering turning 60. It is definitely sobering to think of how many times we've ridden planet Earth around the sun! The first 20 times didn't seem fast enough, but after that, wow!

  4. Good morning! How I enjoy these hodgepodge posts, haha...I am with you on a few of these. The shrimp for sure.. ;) That picture of the snow lodge is just WONDERFUL. My hubby turned 60 in Dec....I have 3 more years (really I guess 2 and half) and there is much to ponder. I am watching my mom turn 80 this year and wonder if I will make it that long...but I am with you. Whatever time I do have left I want to spend it spunky and living it to the fullest. ENJOY your day!

  6. ((HUGS)) I know how you feel on the birthday. People who have not reached that age yet just don't know. You will see articles that talk about your 30's, 40's & 50's but you seldom see things about the 60's. We are going to overcome these feelings and make the 60's the best years of our lives. If we don't start taking the time to smell the roses we will be buried under them!

  7. You know the 60's were some of the best years of my life, now I am starting on the 70's. I don't feel much different than from the 40's or 50's. Age is just a number, and we don't know what our final number is but we can rest in the promise that God knows the days of our lives.

  8. Love your #7! For me, having even a few minutes with the Lord in the morning is so refreshing and just seems to make the day go more smoothly.
    Happy 2012!

  9. I like fried shrimp too, when I eat it, which isn't often! It was nice to get the Christmas stuff put away. I don't enjoy putting away as much as the getting out!

    have a happy week!

  10. I want to go to the lodge with you. Winter is my favorite season and would love to spend an extended vacation on a snow covered mountain. Of course I would require all meals provided and a lot of room service.

  13. I know it is strange but I REALLY dislike shrimp...or seafood of any kind! Poor Chris, he has to wait till we o to LA and let someone else fix it if he wants good seafood!

I like your idea of a good winter activity...I would be all up in the lodge with you.
