Some of my Favorite Things

Is it really Friday again?  Oh, my, how quickly the days go by.  But, I look forward to sharing with you a few of my "favorite things" and urge you to click on the button below to read others entries for Friday Favorites.  Thanks Rachel for this great meme!

Some of my favorite things are...........

Can I just tell you that I cannot imagine my life without a navigation system!  In fact, I do not know how I made it before they came into existence.  I am so directionally challenged and truly do not have a clue as to how to read a map.  The navigation system is my kind of directions, full of details and all the way down to the exit number and she (we named our Shirley)  tells you about 5 times before it's actually time to turn.  Yep, that's my kind of directions.  My only gripe is when we are on a trip and stop to potty and get a bite to eat and she's screaming, "turn around when possible."  Goodness, I just want to tell her to "shut up." Oh, excuse me, I mean "be quiet."

Several years ago my Mother gave me this piece of tatting that her Mother had done many, many years ago.  I had it in a drawer for a long time and then decided that I would have it framed along with the shuttle she used to tat it.  I was more than a little proud when I got it back.  I so well remember watching my Grandmother tat and wondering how in the world she worked with such tiny thread and created such pretty lace.  She would attach it to pillow cases, handkerchiefs and such.  I never hear of anyone tatting today but I'm sure there are still some ladies that do.  I think it is such a beautiful art form and this is a favorite piece for sure.

I love, love this club chair and ottoman.  It is the first place I head of a morning for my quiet time.  It is in our upstairs TV room and I curl up with a throw, have my first cup of coffee and spend some time in the Word, and prayer. This chair makes me feel very safe and secure, just like I'm in the arms of Jesus and is the perfect beginning to my day.

You may remember my saying that I am not an antique buff unless it is a piece that was once in our family.  Well, such is the piece above.  This belonged to my Dad's Mom and this piece started out as natural oak, then it was once pink, once white and then an awful shade of green when I got it.  I knew a man that was great at refinishing and he performed his magic on it and it has graced one of our guest bedrooms since that time.  I think it is such a lovely, lovely piece and perhaps one day I'll replace the mirror.  But, have you ever priced a beveled mirror?  Can I just say, EXPENSIVE!
And, for those of you old enough to remember the Chatty Kathy doll, notice I have one that has been restored sitting on the left hand side of the dresser, in her original clothes.  She was 50 years old this past Christmas. Yep, that's right!

Every morning M-F you will find me on this treadmill at about 7:00AM.  I have been walking on a treadmill for about 25 years.  Now, don't be too impressed because I am not breaking any records when I am walking.  About the best I can say is that I am consistent.  I walk for 30 minutes at 3.5 mph at a small incline and go about 2 miles.  As you can see I have a nice fan blowing right on me and a ceiling fan going as well.  Le me say that I do not like to sweat! ~laugh~  Lots of folks say they do not like a treadmill because they want to be outside.  Well, I love my treadmill and there's no way that I would keep up as consistent a speed if I were  walking on my own and with my treadmill the weather is NOT a factor.  Come rain, shine, sleet or snow, I'm upstairs putting in my time.  I often watch one of the morning news shows or listen to a sermon or Bible teaching on my IPod.  It's a win-win situation for me .

Happy weekend my peeps!

  2. Good morning! I am not sure which of these things I like best. First of all I have a chair that at least appears to be identical to your blue one, only mine is burgundy. Soo comfy, and your right, I love it. Then the tatting, oh my. What a wonderful way to display it. Then, I had a treadmill, actually it was Melody's, which I used for 3 years. I LOVED it. You are putting in just the perfect amount of consistent time. Good for you. OK, that's all I remember for now, haha. Have a good week-end!

  3. Tatting seems to be a lost art, I tried it and ended up with knots and tangles. Love your antique dresser and its vintage mirror. I'd say for a guest room leave the old mirror as is. It gives it a sense of history. Enjoyed today's visit.

  5. I'm glad I'm not the only one who talks back to the navigation system/GPS or the only one who named our navigation system/GPS (we named our GPS Mabel).

I wish I had room for a treadmill. And I don't like to sweat either ... I'd definitely have a fan blowing on me, too!

  6. I never knew my grandmother, but I do know she did tatting, I remember my mom recalling it. We just purchased a treadmill at Christmas, and I am walking on it everyday by the window!
In May, I will turn 50, and I do remember that doll(That was a name I was called sometimes-I loved to chat!)
Hope you have a great weekend!

  7. I hate to sweat too! I love the idea of having a fan blowing on you ;) You sure do have a cozy spot for your morning quiet time. Recently mine has been at the kitchen table for some reason. Once the warmer weather comes I love sitting out in the backyard.

  8. I have always printed out a google map. I now have GPS on my phone but haven't used it very often but it helped me out a few weeks ago when I got lost! The tatting looks so nice framed. What a great idea. Yes that chair does look comfy! The dresser is lovely. Can't believe that it had been painted. I am very impressed, walking each day is so wonderful. Have a great weekend.

  9. A Chatty Cathy doll ...oh my! I used to have one too. I got it for Christmas one year and loved her. Your chair does look so comfy and inviting.

And the treadmill ...I too used to walk every morning until our last move. No more treadmill and there was always an excuse; the weather, early to work, etc. But I'm amazed at how that one change has negatively impacted my life. I was able to buy back my old treadmill and so when we move we will find a place for it. I look forward to my early morning workouts and getting back in shape.

Love your favorite things. And thank you for your kind comment on my last Heart Choices post. :)

    Blessings and love,

  10. Your walking routine is inspiring. I need to be more consistent. Getting motivated to get on is the hardest part. Love the tatted piece and what an honor to preserve it like that.
