My Happy Place

Every time I walk in my kitchen I can't help but smile.  I love my kitchen.  I have tried to make it a "happy place" because I do spend a lot of time in there.  Now, before I go any further, it is not because I am always in there preparing awesome meals.  I cook less now that I ever have in my life, but, nonetheless, I do and have always enjoyed being in my kitchen.  And, for some reason, I do seem to spend a lot of time in there whether I'm cooking or not. ~smile~

I love all the pottery that is so popular today and have found a couple of places to use some, my island and on the floor by the patio door.  I especially like the "old" look of them.  Sort of like something out a "Grandma's attic."

I always enjoyed using fruit in my kitchen decor.  I started collecting these dishes by Portmerion several years ago and I dearly love them.  They make such a pretty table setting and they serve as our "everyday" and our "all the time" dishes.  I could not tell you the last time that I have used fine China.

I also enjoy using roosters in my kitchen and my kitchen window is home to a whole bunch of them.  I have a large stained glass window that hangs at the top of the window and then a collection of glass miniature roosters that sit in the window ledge. Since my kitchen window looks out into the garage, this gives me something cute and happy to look at when I am at the sink. ~double grin~

More roosters can be found over on the Baker's Rack They all have such bright colors and such personalities. Perhaps my little Granddaughter will love them as much as her CiCi and I can pass them on to her.  Otherwise, they will likely be "sold to the highest bidder" one day. ~grin~ My daughter and DIL have indicated that they are NOT "rooster fans."  Shucks!

I have a few on the top of our refrigerator along with decorative bottles of veggies and fruits.  These two signs hang over two of the doorways in the kitchen.

There's more pottery over near the stove along with my wonderful plaque (see middle picture). A friend gave that to me a few years ago for my birthday and it gets comments from everyone that comes into my kitchen. I love it!  And, you may notice the two timers sitting on the stove.  Can I just tell you that I am a timer sort of gal.  I time everything and cannot imagine living without them.  My sweet daughter has heard timers going off all of her growing up years and has told me that when I die she is going to put "she timed out" on my gravestone. ~how tacky~ big smile~

In one corner I have a collection of crosses made from all types of materials and all different shapes and sizes.  And, my dear cuckoo clock.  Hubby gave me this clock about 20 years ago and I LOVE it.  My paternal Grandmother had a cuckoo clock and I always wanted one of my own.  Well, Hubby knew this and decided it was time for me to have one of my own.  I've never tired of hearing that sound.

Now, the one bad thing about all this "happy stuff" is that it gets dusty.  Yep, it sure does and someone has got to clean it. Yuck! not a fun job.  But, I have a young friend and she will come once or twice a year and we tackle it and make it a fun adventure.

So, there you have it, a grand tour of my kitchen, my happy place and one of my most favorite rooms in our house.

I'm linking up with Rachel for Friday Favorites.

  2. Hi there CiCi. I can certainly see why your kitchen is your happy place. Oh, and a rooster helps everything as far as I am concerned! I spend most of my time in my kitchen too, and I love to cook so I do it most everyday :)

  6. You have made a few changes since I was there last, but I do still remember that it was a very pleasant and happy place to be. Of course when I was there, it was usually also filled with the aroma of food. Enjoyed the visit.

  7. I enjoyed this pictoral tour of your happy place. I like your everyday dishes; I'm a firm believer is using what you love every day, not just "for company.
I'm a timer kinda gal, too. One on my oven, one above on the microwave. I live by timers like you do, so I guess my gravestone should be the same as yours! Next I would love to see how you ORGANIZE your kitchen for every day.
