Wednesday Hodgepodge

1.  ARE YOU READY FOR SOME FOOTBALL?  The NFL is back in action along with all the college teams.  Are you a fan?  Who do you root for?  If you're not a fan what do you do while the rest of America watches Saturday, Sunday, Monday night, and now Thursday night games?
Well, if I really tell the truth, I'd have to say that I could care less about any kind of football.  If it is a play off game of our LSU Tigers or the Saints, then I'll likely get in on the fun of those games and have even been known to get pretty excited at those.  I'm generally on my laptop reading blogs, writing a blog, surfing the web or writing an email while Hubby is watching football and probably another show.  We're both happy with this arrangement and that's all that matters.

2. What's something I'll always find in your closet?

Oh, me, shoes, shoes and more shoes.  Can I just say that I LOVE shoes.  I have everything from tennis shoes to sassy heels (not 4" though, those days are gone forever).  I love a shoe sale and do my best to find my shoes on sale, but I have a very narrow foot so often there's none left and a lot of places have quit carrying narrow sizes and that means I have to often go to some of the sites like Marmi and they are real proud of their shoes.

3. Share one of your earliest memories.

Our family lived in what I guess would have been called a subdivision and I have vague memories of playing outside, running across the street to the neighbors at the age of 4 and my Mom not the least bit worried about my safety.  When I started school I walked about a block to school.  I walked by myself and again, not a worry one.  My, my, my, how times have changed! But, that has only been 54 years ago.  Yikes!

4. What circus act best describes your week so far?

Hum.....think I'd have to say the clown whose just out there having a good time, laughing, smiling and bringing a bit of joy to others all the while.  It's been a good week and so far things are rolling along very smoothly and I hope they continue right on.  I don't want it to turn into a juggling act. ~smile~

5. What's a food you disliked as a child but you love now?

Oh, this green stuff called broccoli. I would not even try it but at some point when I was grown I tried it, fell in love and I can literally eat it by the bowlful, no cheese, no butter, just some salt and I'm good to go.

6.  Describe your summer in three words.
Well, with my "big" birthday celebration guess I'd have to say

festive, fun and frivolous

7.  Where were you on September 11, 2001? Will you do anything special to mark the day this year?

I was in Hampton, Virginia with my Dad and Mom visiting relatives.  We were sitting at the kitchen table enjoying a long, leisurely breakfast.  We did not have a TV on and had no idea that all was not "well with the world."  My darling daughter called me to see if we knew what was going on and I immediately turned on the TV and our lives were forever changed.

I do not do anything special to mark the day but the memories are especially fresh each September 11th.

8.  Insert your own random thought here.

I'll be flying out very early in the morning to Virginia. I'm going to see my precious Aunt that has recently been diagnosed with Bile Duct cancer.  She is my last link to my Mom and has always been very special to me.  I ask for your prayers for the rest of her days to be as comfortable as possible.  And, please be in prayer for me as I will be telling her good-bye on Sunday.  Have I mentioned,
life can sure be hard.

  6. A prayer of strength and healing for your aunt, for you, and your family. I used to walk to school when I was young too. Elementary age. But most times I walked with a sibling or a neighborhood friend, not alone. I don't recall being frightened or my parents worried about the walk. Different these days.

  7. I wouldn't eat broccoli as a child either, but now I do. Funny how our tastes change.

I hope you have a great visit with your aunt.

  10. I am not sure how I missed this post, or a few others as well of some of my favorite bloggers....But, just wanted to let you know I will be praying for you while you visit your special Aunt. Life is definitely hard sometimes, you are soo right. I lost my "special" Aunt 5 years ago and I still miss her. I think about the huge reunion we will all have though someday in heaven and it keeps me going...

Oh, and my feelings exactly on the broccoli, haha. When my mom fixed it when I was growing up just the smell of it could almost make me sick. Now I simply just can't get enough. Seriously I bet I have it 3 or 4 times a week, haha.

    Hugs to you!
