Wednesday Hodgepodge

Well, I had not planned to participate this week because we are in route to Kansas.  I'm relaxing in a lovely hotel room in downtown Oklahoma City and decided that I just had to get in one more post before the Christmas fun begins with our Kansas kids.  Now, I know you are tickled too death! ~grin~
Thanks Joyce for always "showing up."

1.  So, when did you last take a walk in the woods? A stroll along the beach? A drive going nowhere in particular in the car?

Well, can't remember the exact date of walking in the woods, but it was some time ago.  I went with Hubby to put corn in his deer feeders.  It's been about a year and a half since I strolled on the beach.  Hubby and I were in beautiful Fairhope, Alabama at The Grand Hotel.  About once a month Hubby and I get in the car and just ride with no particular purpose in mind.

2.  Are you sending Christmas cards this year?  About how many do you send?  Photo card or something more traditional?  How do you display the cards you receive?

Oh, yes, I always send Christmas cards and probably always will.  I know that many folks no longer do, but it is something that I really enjoy and I'm hopeful that those on the receiving end enjoy them.  I think I sent about 125 this year and they are a tri-fold photo card.  I used an online card service called Send Out Cards
and I created the card with their online software and then they mail them on the date I specified.  How cool is that?  It's the easiest card sending I've ever done and I use them for all my card sending year around.  Okay, back to the subject at hand........I have no great way to display my cards.  I lay them on a shelf in our family room and we enjoy picking them up from time to time and re-looking at all of them

3. What's a word you've heard too much of in the past week?

Holiday instead of Christmas. It's crazy how often I've heard Happy Holidays where it use to be Merry Christmas.  Just another sign of the times we are living in.  So very sad!

4. December 13th is National Cocoa Day-are you a fan?  Plain or flavored?  Marshmallows or no marshmallows?

I do not indulge in hot cocoa often, but I do like it.  I like it with the whipped topping you spray out of the can.  Talk about good, that is yummy!  Marshmallows are too sticky! ~ grin~

5. What is something you do to help alleviate the hectic pace of the Christmas season?

I start thinking about Christmas way in advance.  I get my shopping done very early, and I do most of my goodie making early.  I decorate as soon as Thanksgiving is over and I am able to just really enjoy the weeks leading up to Christmas.  I enjoy a little "hustle and bustle" but I cannot stand to be or feel hurried.

6. Besides jewelry, what's a favorite sparkly-glittery item in your home or closet?

I have several tops and jackets with bling and I love them, especially at this time of year.  I like for it to be tasteful, but a little bling is fun! My favorite "bling maker" is Christine Alexander.  Her line of clothes is just the best and the bling absolutely never comes off if you care for it the way the label states.

7. Share a favorite line or two from any Christmas carol.

Mary, Did you know that your Baby Boy
Is Lord of all creation?
Mary, Did you know that your Baby Boy
Will one day rule the nations?
Did you know that your Baby Boy
Is Heaven's perfect Lamb?
This sleeping child your holding
Is the great I AM!

8.  Insert your own random thought here.
As I mentioned earlier, Hubby and I are staying in downtown Oklahoma City tonight in route to Dodge City.  We have really had a fun time today as we left home around 7:00 this morning.  We arrived here around 4:30, had a lovely dinner at Mickey Mantle's Steakhouse (delicious food) and then rambled around Bricktown looking at all the beautiful Christmas lights.  We did all this on foot as we are staying within walking distance.  We ended up at Bass Pro Shop and enjoyed browsing around there.  It was all about the journey today but tomorrow will likely be all about the destination - Dodge City here we come!

  1. LOVE your snowman top. That is darling.

As for the "Happy Holidays" vs. "Merry Christmas"....I don't mind either one. It's the sentiment that counts, not the exact words. My humble opinion of course.

  2. I agree with you on Happy Holidays vs Merry Christmas, although Happy Holidays beats Bah Humbug. ;-)

I love that pretty Christmas top! Too many times clothing with bling is just way overdone to suit me ... my philosophy is "less is more".

I almost chose those lines from "Mary, Did You Know" for #7.

  4. Glad you enjoyed OKC. Did you see the giant ornaments they have all around or partake in the snow tubing at the baseball stadium? I keep meaning to go see the lights on the canal at night.
