Wednesday's Hodgepodge

1. The first week of August is National Simplify Your Life Week...what's one thing you could do this week to qualify as a participant?

Well, I could get rid of some of the stuff that is sitting around our house that I affectionately call decor.  It would simplify my life because no longer would it have to moved to dust and when we leave this big house, I wouldn't have to pack it.  It's doubtful that either of these are going to happen but it sure is a nice thought.

2. It's also National Peach Month...peach pie, peach cobbler, or please pour me a Bellini?  What's your peach pleasure?

Again, I am weird but I do not care for peaches in pies, cobblers or ice cream.  I am such a texture person and a coooked or mashed up peach is way to mushy for this gal.  I can eat a raw peach and half way enjoy it and I can tolerate Peach Tea.

3. Eleanor Roosevelt once wrote, "Do one thing every day that scares you." Agree or disagree...explain.

I agree. I assume that this likely means do something that gets yourself out of your comfort zone.  I find that the older I get the harder this is to do but also the more determined I am to do so. I want to meet each day "head on" and sometimes that means being scared. ~chuckle~

4. What's your favorite household chore?  Yes-you have to name one.

Definitely keeping things organized! I live by the rule, "there's a place for everything and everything should be in it's place."  Goodness, just makes life so much better for me.  I love organized drawers, organized cabinets, organized laundry, you name it and I not only want it organized, I enjoy getting it that way and keeping it that way.  It's not a one time affair for sure so that's why I'm always having to stay on top of it.  I know, weird!! ~smile~

5. Fodors recently listed (what they've dubbed) the ten most beautiful sunset spots in America. Click here to read more and see the pretty pictures, but this is their list:

Butterfly Beach in Santa Monica CA, Mount Haleakala in Maui HI, Old Fort Marcy Park in Santa Fe NM, Laguna Beach CA, Hopi Point in Grand Canyon AZ, Four Seasons in Miami FL, Santa Monica Pier in Santa Monica CA, Gay Head in Martha's Vineyard MA, Ensign Peak in Salt Lake City UT, and Mallory Square in Key West Florida.

Have you seen the sun set from any of these spots?  If you could choose to watch the sun set this weekend from one spot on the Fodors List, which would you choose?  Where was the prettiest sunset you've ever seen?

I consider myself to be a well traveled gal but none of my travels have taken me to any of the above mentioned spots.  I have been to Maui twice but did not go to Mount Haleakala. I want to go to Martha's Vineyard so I'll say that Gay Head is where I would choose to go.  And, I would have to say that the prettiest sunset I have ever seen was in Hawaii, just not on Mount Haleakala.

6. What's your favorite or most used app?  If you don't use apps how about your favorite or most visited website?

Oh, I can only name one?  I have bunches, but Netflix would rate at the top because every morning when I walk on my treadmill I watch a movie off of Netflix on my Ipad.  Of course, it takes me about 3 mornings to finish a movie but Netflix keeps it right where I left off and I pick it right back up.  So, so cool!!

7. We've recently passed the halfway mark for 2013...write a seven word sentence that sums up your year thus far.

"All that and a bag of chips!"

8.  Insert your own random thought here.
First, if you have clicked on my Recipe Tab at the top of my blog recently and gotten a "malware message" - it is now fixed.  The page has been recreated and should be just fine.  It never had a malware issue, but it was not working with some folks virus protection systems.
Secondly, fellow bloggers,   I am DONE with Google+ as far as my blog is concerned!!! I switched over and was never happy and didn't see the big deal and it would change my settings without my permission.  So, I reverted back to "regular Blogger" and think I'll be much happier now.
Thirdly, I am enjoying Bloglovin' as a way to follow blogs! I don't know why folks can't just leave something alone when it's working just fine. Oh, well, guess I'll adjust. ~sigh~

  1. We moved into this house a couple of months before we retired, and the timing was perfect! I determined right then and there that I would decorate this house in the "less-is-more" scheme. That has certainly helped simplify my life ... and not having a lot less stuff to dust and care for has given me more time to do the things I like (time with my Ts and of course quilting - ha!).

I have the same rule ... and unfortunately DH does not, which creates a little conflict when I can't find something that he used last. ;-)

I, too, want to go to Martha's Vineyard ... not sure that we'll ever get there, but it's on our bucket list.

  2. I also love to get things organized. Too bad things don't keep themselves that way, huh?? As for too much stuff, I keep paring down as if we're gonna move, because eventually we will -- or die trying--and I certainly don't want "all this crap" (the kids would say) to be anyone else's huge burden to deal with.

  3. I am an organizer too. I love being able to find things because everything has its own home. Seeing my home neat and orderly gives me peace and pleasure.
Yes, I have my issues with Google too. I am still bugged that Google Reader is gone.

  4. Ok, about the Google+. I have found I have to go into and change or correct so much that I should not have to before publishing. The editing is taking longer than the actual putting together. I wasn't sure what was causing the problem, let me know what you decide to do. Yes, I'm also lovin bloglovin for keeping up with fellow bloggers.

Remember, weed out and keep only what you love. Per eld:)

  6. Since you are so good at organizing, would you please come to my house and help me? I'm in the middle (literally) of taking out everything in my office (which is really in my living room). I need to get organized before school starts next week.

I love peaches but prefer to eat them alone. They are so delicious this time of year. And I spent many weeks at Santa Monica over the years and simply love it there.

I always enjoying reading your answers.

    Blessings and love,
    Debbie

  8. I am not a fan of Google+ either. Last week I tried to comment on a blog and it wouldn't let me do it without setting up an account. grrr. I have gotten used to Blog Lovin' too.

I didn't realize you had a recipe link so I'll have to check that out. Have a great day!

  9. I haven't tried google+, and probably won't unless forced to. I may give bloglovin a try later on, tho. We will see. Always enjoy this little series of yours.

  10. I agree about organizing although I am sure you are way better at it than I am :)
    Martha's Vineyard sounds beautiful!

  11. I am right there with you on #1! I like my peaches raw too. I think I need to hire you to get me organized. I use to be OCD about it but not anymore. I want to go to Martha's Vineyard too so that's what I picked. I don't stream very many movies but I do love our Netflix account. Cute sentence!!! Love the saying. I have found that I like Feedly a little better then Bloglovin' because it is actually closet to Google Reader as I have played around with both of them.

  12. I agree with you! I just can't get the Google+ thing. If I visit someone new, I have a hard time just finding their blog address. Maybe it is just me but I don't think it is user friendly.

Enjoyed reading your thoughts today. Surprised that you don't like some of those peace dishes.

I also like to be organized. Just wish others in my house did too!
