It's Wednesday, it's Hodgepodge and it's all because Joyce shows up week in and week out with questions that make us think and pick our brain. Thanks Joyce, you are TOPS!
1. When is your next big deadline? What's it for?
Hum.....well, my deadline for moving into our new home is July 1st but mind you, that's just my deadline. ~chuckle~ I am not at all sure that will happen but I do think it will be close. It will be one year on June 12th that construction began and I must say that I'm more than ready to be moved and most of all, settled. The settled part, well, just not sure when we'll be able to say we are settled. But, if we can just get moved in then we can worry about the settling part. ~smile~
2. May is National Barbecue Month. Do you prefer cooking indoors or out? What's the best thing about a barbecue? What's the last thing you cooked on an outdoor grill?
Hubby and I both enjoy grilled foods, and it doesn't have to necessarily be barbecued. Hubby grilled us some chicken this past Saturday that would make you "slap your Momma." It was delicious!
3. What is one thing on your "never again" list?
To go to the Christmas ICE exhibit at any of the Gaylord properties. We took our kids and their families to the Gaylord Texan this past December to do the whole gamute of holiday offerings there. We waited and waited and waited some more in line to see the ICE exhibit and we were sorely disappointed. So, once was enough for us. ~not enough bang for the buck~ But, thankfully, everything things else was tops and a most wonderful time for our family.
4. What's something that annoys you about people your own age? Something you love about your generation?
I can't think of anything in my own generation in particular but in general it annoys me when people are so,so negative about every little thing. True enough, there is a lot of negative in our world but we don't have to dwell on it or talk about it every chance we get. I try real hard to keep a positive attitude but I do fail every once in a while and I don't like myself when I do.
And, not sure about what I love about my generation, pretty much everything perhaps. ~grin~
5. Lilac, iris, hyacinth, pansy...your favorite purple flower?
Oh, the purple iris! We have some beautiful iris' that Hubby has planted over the years but I don't think we have a purple one but they are gorgeous!
6. Whats a song that always calms you down?
The Anchor Holds sung by Ray Boltz. Oh my goodness, if you have not heard it then you need to click here and listen. Such a beautiful reminder of the anchor we have in our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ no matter how rough the sailing gets.
7. What's the last thing you donated?
Oh, my, I've been donating lots these past months as I prepare for our big move. But, the last thing was a car load of Hubby's clothes. He had a major closet cleaning out and I'm sure it made some men very happy when they went to the Thrift Store after I delivered them.

Do you know what this is? I wouldn't have either if Hubby had not told me. It is a swallow nest near one of the eaves of our new house. It looks just like a dirt-daubers nest to me. It's our understanding that the swallows are quite a nuisance where we have built, so I'm sure that Hubby will be researching a remedy for that shortly. Thankfully one can find a remedy and probably a You Tube video for almost anything these days.
There certainly does seem to be a You Tube video for just about everything these days and they really come in handy. I'm a visual person so seeing a new cooking or craft technique is a lot more useful than reading a list of directions.
ReplyDeleteHi Lea! I can't believe your home has been under construction for nearly a year now! Time sure flies and you're getting close to move-in time! Yippee! I recognized that nest right away. When we go to see my MIL on the lake in SC, we'll often spot them under bridges we pass by on her boat. They're interesting to look at, but can be a problem.
ReplyDeleteLike you, my guess would have been that the ugly thing was a dirt dauber's nest. Yes, it is really helpful that we can find so many answers on the Internet when back in the old days we had to go to the public library and find help in encyclopedias!
ReplyDeleteYou do have a very positive attitude which is one of the reasons I enjoy reading your blog!
Ahh, yes what did we do before the Internet? : ) I'm excited for your big move! We have signed a letter of intent with a builder, and an architect is currently tweaking our plans. I'm ready to get started, but it will be a little bit still then another year for the build so hopefully sometime next summer we'll be in.
ReplyDeleteLove that song, Lea. Thanks for sharing it. Isn't it interesting how many of us Hodgepodgers selected hymns or spiritual songs. That's what I love about participating in this blog.
ReplyDeleteCan't believe those pesky birds built a dirt nest on your unpainted wood trim. What were they thinking?
Great song. I thought it was a dauber's nest!
ReplyDeleteYes those swallow nest are a very big nuisance in many places. I'm guilty of being negative as I've grown older and I'm trying to break this habit. It annoys me and especially my family! Good to know about the Gaylord. I was at the one in Florida when they had it going on but I didn't end up going. That is a long time waiting for your new home but you know it is being done right and not slapped together like track housing. Hope your deadline comes true!
ReplyDeleteYou have such an interesting blog. Thanks for sharing. Reading blogs is my hobby and I randomly found your blog. I enjoyed reading your posts. All the best for your future blogging journey. Please keep in touch with me in Twitter, @ipersuade.
ReplyDeleteAs always enjoyed your Wednesday Hodgepodge thoughts, Thanks for sticking with us "older folks" ~smile~ You are so right about all the negative thoughts and actions now days.
ReplyDeleteI am looking forward to your moving in day too!
Blessings,
Sue
Stopping by from the hodgepodge. Hope you meet the new home deadline :)
ReplyDeleteNow this was fun - love reading your interview and so hoping you will be in your house by July 1…such an exciting time!
ReplyDeleteAlmost moving in!!! Congrats! I am so glad to hear this about the Gaylord. So many people go there and I've always wondered about it. happy Friday!
ReplyDeleteFunny how we remember the places where we stood in line 'forever" , followed by a disappointment, and then mentally put on our "never again' list! I"m so excited for your move-in date and see how you
ReplyDeletedecorate your new nest . I'm sure the swallows are thinking "Hey, lady ,we were here FIRST!"

Has it been a year already? I'm sure it feels longer for you. Very excited for you that your move in date is getting close. One positive thing about moving is it does force you to get rid of stuff. something we have been working on but it's slow going. Hope your week is a good one.
ReplyDeleteI enjoy reading your answers every time I visit here. I was totally blessed by the Ray Boltz song this morning. Thank you so much for the inspiration. I also enjoy seeing every new step in your home building. You put so much thought into every aspect of it. I especially like the door hardware.
