Well, hello! Yes, I have been MIA for a little while and I have missed you but just have had other things going on and blogging took a backseat. I decided a few months ago that I will not look at my blog as something I HAVE to do but something that I enjoy doing. When I feel I HAVE to blog, it becomes work. So, there you go! It's good to be back!
I haven't participated in the Wednesday Medley in almost a month. But, today's subject matter lured me in and I look forward to answering these. National Cousins Day is today, Aunt and Uncle Day is the 26th. Terri's questions center around these special days. And, once again, I had no idea there were such days.
1. What can you tell us about your cousins, please, or someone who is close like a cousin?
This is two of my cousins and I have 8 others.
Most of my cousins live in Virginia and I went to see them last September. I have tried to stay connected with them. We always have a great time when we are together and I'm really sorry that we can't see each other more. All but one of my cousins is on my mother's side.
2. Do you still see your cousins and will you contact them on National Cousins Day?
As I stated above, I last saw my Virginia cousins almost a year ago. It's rather doubtful that I will contact them today.

3. Terri had a favorite aunt and uncle she will tell us about. How about you?
This is my Aunt Wanda, my Mom's oldest sister. The above picture was taken in 2012 at her 90th birthday celebration. She was diagnosed with a rare form of cancer shortly before her birthday and lived about another year. She was special to me all of her life. She had 4 boys and she was always up for some girl fun whenever we were together. She was such a lovely lady and she will always hold a special place in my heart. She continues to influence me.
And, this lady, well, she is more fun than a barrel of monkeys and I was so thrilled to spend time with her last September. She was married to my Mom's brother but my Mom always looked at her more as a sister than a sister in law. I talk to Aunt Mary at least a couple of times a month and she always lifts my spirits with her wonderful humor and wisdom.
4. Did/does your family have reunions and can you tell us about them?
I can count on one hand the number of family reunions that my parents families have had over the years. In fact, my Dad's family has never had a reunion. Mom's family had 2-3 that I remember. We always lived so far away that I only remember attending 1 of them.
5. If you have children, are they enjoying relationships with their cousins, aunts, uncles?
Our children have 4 first cousins and they've only seen 2 of them 3-4 times in their life. They have seen their other 2 many more times but hundreds of miles have always separated them, so it's been tough to establish a close relationship. They have 4 aunts and uncles and do share a special bond with some of them but, again, many miles separate them now.
Distance from family is something I have had to deal with all of my life. I often wish it were different but it isn't likely going to ever change so we deal with it as best we can.
6. Tell us something random about your week so far.
If you are my friend on Facebook then you probably saw that we got ourselves an adjustable bed. We got the I-Comfort Serta mattresses to go on the adjustable frame. We know several folks that have this exact configuration and they are all so happy with it. I am always propping myself up in bed to either read or watch TV and now I can really be comfortable. It has dual controls, so we had to get the two twin beds set up. But, we felt it was important for us to be able to adjust our sides to our own liking. It also has a massage setting and Hubby will likely use that more than I will but I'm pretty sure after a few nights of adjustment, we are going to love the mattress. There is no doubt we will both enjoy the adjustable feature. Since I composed this post prior to going to bed last night I cannot report on how the first night was. But, I will give you a report later. Of course, there is no more a set of sheets for this bed. It takes 2 twin XL fitted sheets and the rest of the linens are still king size. Very few places sell separate sheets. I got mine from Bed, Bath and Beyond online. As I said, I'll give you an update after we've slept on it a few nights.
Again, it's so good to be back in blogland! I'll try not to stay away so long next time.

Wishing you a happy National Cousin Day, Lea. Your aunts and cousins all look as cute as you. Blessed with good genes. Great to have you back.
ReplyDeleteI understand and agree, as we've discussed before, about the blogging issue. When it becomes a demand, it's time to back off. But, it's good to have you back. How fortunate to still have your aunt and to be able to stay in touch with her.
ReplyDeleteI did see your post on FB about the adjustable bed and look forward to hearing how you like it. Thanks for joining the Medley today and sharing your family photos and stories with us. It really is sad what the younger generations just don't get together like we older folks did in easier time. Distance is more of an issue these days too. Enjoy the bed!!
ReplyDeleteWelcome back to blogland! That's a great attitude of just blogging when you feel like it and one that I've been trying out too. :)
ReplyDeleteLove your photos and look forward to your new bed update. We have been looking but have made so many bad mattress purchases that we are a bit shy about buying another mattress (number 6).

Love all your pics! Enjoy the new bed. We have looked into that one, still trying to decide. Taking a break from blogland is good at times!! Have a great Wednesday!
ReplyDeleteI just know y'all will love your new bed. We have a sleep number and after spending a few nights in Alabama, I was SO ready to get home to my very own bed!
ReplyDeleteIt's good to have you back! You have a beautiful set of cousins! I had only 3 first-cousins, and of them, only one is still living (and I'm the eldest of them all). Like you, distance has made it very hard for me to spend much time at all with family beyond the very closest.
ReplyDeleteSo glad you're back. I missed your posts:) I have MANY cousins on my mama's side and had only 1 on my father's side (now deceased). One of my aunts had 12 children!!!! We won't even talk about the 2nd & 3rd cousins!!!! I recently did one of those DNA test kit things from Ancestry and so am finding even more cousins...that's sort of fun:)
ReplyDeleteWelcome back...and I like your take on blogging. As I said in my post, it can sometimes become a drudgery but I have found out that it is not enjoyable when you feel like you have to post, even when you have nothing to say. How wonderful it is that you have these close relationships with your cousins...great photos of you all together. I did see the post about your new bed on Facebook and I hope it is everything you expected it to be and more!
ReplyDeleteGreat read CiCi, love the photos of you and your cousins, sad to say that I haven't stayed in touch with mine as they live away, but i sure have some wonderful memories of my childhood with them, I saw most of them almost every Sunday because my granny cooked for her children and grandchildren every Sunday.
ReplyDeleteEnjoy your new bed, please let us know how it is going, Dh and I are in need of a new one.
Thanks for visiting and for your sweet comment,
Welcome back to blogging, I have been so sporadic this year, please don't stop I have had so many friends leave blogland and go to other social medias, I do instagram, but blogging is my favorite, it takes a little more time but relationships are closer.
Blessings,
Sue
We just got a new mattress too. It's a king, we've always had a queen, and I am so enjoying the extra room. I am definitely a bed hog!! We are trying something new, sleeping with just a comforter and a top sheet that snaps onto the duvet cover. So just fluff out the comforter and the bed is made! Just need to unsnap the sheet to wash, no need the take the comforter out of the duvet to wash the duvet. Hasn't come yet, so no report yet on how we like it. Enjoy your new bed. Sounds comfy!
