Wednesday Hodgepodge

From this Side of the Pond
Today is a BIG day folks!  Joyce laid aside the Wednesday Hodgepodge in Sept. of 2018 and today she has resurrected it and I am thrilled.  I've missed it and hope you will enjoy today's questions and answers.  Here goes..........

1. Howdy Hodgepodgers. It's kind of fun to be back, isn't it?  Last time we met was September, 2018. Tell me something big-important-happy-or sad that's happened in your life since that date. Just one thing. We don't know how long this current isolation situation is going to last and we might need to dole out our news bit by bit.
Well, think without a doubt our most important, happy and a huge surprise was the birth of our 5th and 3rd grandson last August 20th to our 40 year old daughter. 😆

2. Might as well get this out of the way early on...COVID-19. On a scale of 1-5 how serious are you about keeping your distance? Explain. fyi-I didn't create the scale but have seen it several places online. Also fyi-we won't only have virus related questions each week, but for this first one it feels right.
1-Not at all, living normally
2-Cautious but still going out
3-Going out as needed, mostly home or working from home, still seeing friends/family
4-Extremely limited, only going out when unavoidable, minimal contact with people
5-Full lockdown, no one in or out
I would fall under #3.  I go to the grocery as needed, run by Hubby's office (which is closed to the public but employee's still working) and still seeing our son and his family.

3. Raise your hand if you think you might run out of steam in the cooking department before it's all said and done? What's something delicious you've cooked or eaten in your own kitchen in the past week?
Oh, my goodness, we haven't eaten at home this much in our lives I don't think.  Hubby is dieting very strictly so that has helped.  I did a wonderful chicken breast recipe in the crockpot last week and had enough for two meals.  I froze the remaining and we enjoyed it last night.

4. What's a television show or movie you've seen recently (it could be an oldie) that you really liked?
Not sure about a movie but during this time of isolation I've been watching
"Anne with An E" on Netflix and really enjoying it.

5. Share something funny you've seen or heard this week.
I went by Subway one evening last week to get myself a sandwich.  A young man came in behind me and while he was waiting he asked me if I thought it would be okay to give his dog some tea to drink.  I mean, what a random question.  I replied that I did not have a clue.  He then went to the cooler and pulled out a Gatorade and said, "oh, I'll just give him Gatorade with his dinner today."  He then proceeded to order the dog 3 Subway sliders.  It appeared from what the gal behind the counter said that he does this daily, so I asked him what kind of dog he had.  He said it was a Rotweiller/Pit Bull mix.  Lordy!  I was sure thankful he didn't bring the dog with him.  I just shook my head and left.

6. Insert your own random thought here
I decided yesterday that I am OVER this whole isolation thing.  Goodness!  I so want to return to normal living, going and doing as I please.  And, perhaps none of us will ever take "normal living" for granted again.  I've managed to stay busy but everything is about as clean as it can get for now and organized as it can be.  So, while I never indulge in Netflix during the day, I am now.  And, I must say, it's been a great time filler.  I've missed my visits with my Daddy and I sense that he's about tired of the situation as well.  But, we will preserve on until the "powers that be" tell us to resume normal living.

  1. I am so glad the Hodgepodge is back too :) Congratulations on another grandchild. I am so sorry you can't visit your daddy. That has to be so difficult. I hope the restrictions are lifted soon.

  2. I haven't done much watching of TV yet. With my husband at home, he's been controlling the remote. I may have to speak up about that at some point. There has to be something on somewhere that we can BOTH enjoy. I have a feeling not only will we never take "normal" life for granted again, we will also be a bit nervous any time we hear of a breakout of any illness. This showed just how easily and quickly life can change.
Stay safe and have a lovely day!

  3. We're on lock down in the UK so 'normal' isn't happening any time soon. I so miss my family.

  5. You are very blessed on that new grandson and also being able to be at #3. So hilarious about the guy at Subway. Very weird stuff to feed your dog. I am hopeful for normal life soon and praying the predictions of doom are simply the naysayers.

  6. I think we're in the early stages of this social distancing thing so hang in there. My daughter is in week 7 and they are still mostly home, definitely not traveling, not eating out...I feel your grandparenting pain though. So thankful for technology! It's great to see you here today : )

  8. I think we are all getting a little tired of the social distancing. Our area just declared "shelter in place," but we have already been doing it for two weeks now.

  9. Knowing you as I do, I just have to laugh (not a bad kind) when I think of how miserable you must be without being social. My Michelle and Mary-Beth are the same way. She told me the other day that this isolation is hell for the extrovert and heaven for the introvert. LOL! She knows her husband, a daughter and her MIL are completely content and not disturbed whatsoever by it all. Do you have your Easter outfit yet?

  10. I love Anne with an "E" too. I haven't seen the most recent season and look forward to it. Stay healthy, Lea!

  11. I think we are all over this isolation but I'm afraid it may get worse before it gets better. Sounds like you did all of your cleaning... I just look at the dust and think that no one is coming over so why bother (LOL) (not really that bad)! It is so fun having the Hodgepodge back! Take care!

  12. As much as the eating at home thing is overrated, we are looking forward to saving money because of it. So there is that. ha. I'm hoping God is gracious and has mercy on us all soon.

  13. Oh, my. Sounds like that pitbull might be a little spoiled. :) I would have been thankful as well that he didn't bring the dog inside.

  14. Babies are the best, congratulations! I will have to check out Anne with an E. Those are some strange questions your were asked and thankfully he didn't bring the dog in! Glad you are enjoying Netflix. My dad has been in a rehab center for about six weeks now. Being moved to a nursing home this week. He won't be going home which is making him very sad. They really do need visitors but we also want the safe.

  15. I'll have to try Anne With an E. I have not seen it.
I read your previous post of you visiting with your Dad. That must be so hard, I'm glad he has a window and you can see him but I know that is not close to the same as your visits with him.

Nice visiting you today. Take care.

  16. I enjoy this type of post. Don't know if I am supposed to comment on them myself....but you know me, always something to say:) On that virus scale, last week I was probably a 3 but this week have been a 4. I know I am going to have to go out at some point but I have just gotten rather scared. Plus my son has put his foot down and doesn't want me to go anywhere (I have asthma). The cooking extra is going to get the best of me I'm afraid! Hubby did got to Subway for us tonight. I am picking up groceries from WalMart tomorrow via shopping using their app and at-the-car delivery. Can't say I like it much but it is what it is! I truly miss going out on Fri. night and mingling with friends and townspeople. The other thing I hate about it all is HOMESCHOOLING...trying to help my grandkids and though they are good students, they are overwhelmed.! That was a strange story about the dog and the sliders! That man must have more money than he knows what to do with! Hope you and yours stay well...and that this horrible situation will be over ASAP (please, Lord!)

  17. What a funny story about that guy and his dog...LOL! I do love the "Anne with an "E" series as well...haven't gotten it all watched yet. It sounds like you have really been putting your cooking skills to work. We are grilling burgers and dogs tomorrow and having the rest of the family down to "dine outside" on the picnic table. We think that's a pretty safe option. They have hardly been off the mountain except for a trip here and there to the store. Jim has been the shopping for us and as for me, I choose to stay away with basically no immune system for now. God has it all in the palm of His hand. Stay safe and healthy, friend!

  18. "Normal" may never again be what it once was, kinda like after 911. Dunno if that's a good or a bad thing. Time will tell.

  19. I was just thinking about you and your dad. I haven’t hugged my mom in 2 weeks, just a chat through the window. My heart breaks for those alone. I’m keeping busy too but so over this and it’s going to last a long time......so sad and scary. Big virtual hugs to you.

  20. Omg I Finally Got Helped  !! I'm so excited right now, I just have to share my testimony on this Forum.. The feeling of being loved takes away so much burden from our shoulders. I had all this but I made a big mistake when I cheated on my wife with another woman  and my wife left me for over 4 months after she found out..  I was lonely, sad and devastated. Luckily I was directed to a very powerful spell caster Dr Emu who helped me cast a spell of reconciliation on our Relationship and he brought back my wife and now she loves me far more than ever.. I'm so happy with life now. Thank you so much Dr Emu, kindly Contact  Dr Emu Today and get any kind of help you want.. Via Email emutemple@gmail.com or Call/WhatsApp +2347012841542
