Wednesday's Hodgepodge

Inauguration Day 2021, yep, it sure is but right now, I'm more concerned with answering Joyce's fun HP questions.  I think I'll likely miss watching any of the events or the inauguration.  I'll just wait and hear about it later.  I do pray it will all come off peacefully.

1. What's something we'd find you doing most afternoons?

4-5 afternoons a week you will find me going over to visit with my Daddy.  Some of the visits are longer than others, some are just a run in and run out, making sure everything is in good order for him.  The rest of my afternoon can be baking, working in my home office and occasionally  cooking a nice dinner. ~sigh~   With the Covid restrictions, several things I am involved in are not meeting, we see friends only occasionally,  so I generally have a lot of time on my hands here at home.  I miss terribly the opportunities for socialization.

2. Who do you take after? In what way(s)?

I have ways of both my Mom and Dad but I would definitely be more like my Daddy.  I have two brothers and my brother that is 3 years younger than me is more like our Mom than either myself or our younger brother, who is also more like our Daddy.  Both of my parents were planners and organized so I got a double dose of that.  I love people and make friends easily and I can have a very aggressive spirit if need be and am a born leader, much like my Daddy.  I think these last two traits have served me well in all the "care overseeing" I have done of my paternal grandparents, my mother in law and now my Dad.  If you need an advocate, I'm your gal!! ~that's no brag, just simple fact~

3. 'After every storm comes a rainbow' or 'the calm before the storm'...which phrase do you relate to more right now? Tell us why?

I don't really think I relate to either one right now.  But, I'm hoping that a rainbow is going to come over our country after all the stormy days we are seeing and have seen in recent months.  I certainly hope this is NOT the calm before the storm for our country.  May the Lord have mercy!

4.What are your plans for the day after tomorrow?

Let's see, that would be Friday.  I don't really have any plans, same ole, same ole.  We have plans to meet friends for dinner at a restaurant that is abiding by Covid rules very strictly.  I may come up with something  a little more exciting than my usual trip to Wal-Mart.  And, who knows, I may decide to bake more cookies. ~chuckle~ Such is life at this time.

5. Complete this sentence-"After all is said and done_____________________."

Not to be catty, but "After all is said and done, more is said than done."  I'm afraid that is true more often than not.

6. Insert your own random thought here.

CVS came to the assisted living facility where my Dad lives to give the Covid vaccine this past Monday.  This has been in the works for a couple of weeks, and while it was not mandatory, most all of the residents did opt to take it.  Around mid-morning the administrator of the facility called and ask me if I wanted to come and get the vaccine.  I had not fully decided exactly how I felt about taking it but, I decided very quickly that I would get it.  She said they were going to have extra vaccine and it would go to waste if not used and if I knew others that would like to get it to let her know.  Well, I immediately thought of our son (who is a diabetic) and my dear friend whose husband is very sick in a facility and getting the vaccine might enable her to get in to see him earlier.  So, I called both of them and we all showed up at the facility to get our first of the two vaccines. (Hubby had already gotten it a couple of weeks ago)  I had and still have a very sore arm and experienced a little light headedness a few hours afterwards.  Other than that, all has been good.  And, I will not read or listen to conspiracy theories about the tall tales concerning the vaccines.  I have taken it and I  will go forth.

  1. I am an advocate too when it comes to caregiving. Everyone needs an advocate. So glad you can see your daddy so often. There are so many here that can't have visitors still. It just breaks my heart.

  2. Here's hoping that the vaccine is what you need it to be. My grandfather is 94 and he will be taking it as soon as the VA can roll them out.

  3. Cici,

I love the quote at the end. I've seen this before and it's so beautiful and true. The pandemic hasn't really cut into my schedule too much being a SAHW. DH works from home now. To take my mind off the medical crisis as well as the political bull, other than music or humor, I find getting creative is one of the best medicines for the soul. It was great to read you answers. I hope when time allows, you'll stop by Curious as a Cathy to read my responses. Have a blessed day!

  4. Lea, loving that quote at the end of the post. So very true. So glad you can see your dad. We still cannot see my mom. (Sad face). Girl, Marty says that he is afraid he will come home one day and I will have cooked and baked everything we have in the house! LOL! I told him he best be glad I still work part. Hugs and blessings, Cindy

  5. That's awesome the facility was able to share their extra doses and that you found two others who would greatly benefit from it.

  6. I'm happy you were able to get the vaccine. I think anyone in our age category is an excellent candidate since we are pretty healthy and also enjoy being social and traveling. I am more concerned with those in my daughter's age group as the long term effects on fertility are an unknown. They require long term study and we just don't have that. But hubs and I plan to get it when we're permitted. We're still pretty far down on the list. I hate that it's being thrown away. That seems crazy and I wish they could get the distribution corrected. I don't know why doctors offices can't manage it. They already have a data base and if someone is a no show they could call in someone else. Plus they know who in their younger patient set might be at risk. Oh well. The government is in charge and that pretty much explains why it's a mess. Now that the wedding has passed we are anxious to get out a bit. We have really isolated these past couple of months.

  7. We are being extremely carful with our doses and making appointments accordingly so as not to waste any vaccine. I am so glad that your Daddy has been safe through all this and was able to get it. My parents got theirs about two weeks ago. Enjoy your week!

  8. My mother-in-law is 95 and is still living in her own home. She is supposed to get her first dose of the vaccine today. I am so very thankful!! I'm only 62 so I'll be down the list aways. My husband is 67 so hopefully, he will get his soon. In Alabama, we are still vaccinating essential workers, frontliners, and those over 75. I'm so glad that they were wise and notified people so the vaccine wasn't wasted!! I love your quote at the end!

  9. I am glad you got the vaccine! We are on the to-be-called list and hope for an appointment next week. Our doctor convinced us to stop listening and reading the silly stuff showing up on social media. No tracking chips, no card to carry, and it won't change your DNA. It is too important, especially with my husband who is age and health compromised. Good for you!

  10. I think it's smart for older folks to get the vaccine, but just have reservations about young people like my teen kids getting it. Let's hope that the rainbow is coming soon! Have a wonderful Wednesday.

  11. You are right, there are so many concerns about the vaccine. John said he and others have noticed that the older ones are having less side affects than the young people. I had not heard until reading Joyce's comment about the fertility issue. I will be sure to pass this on to Chandler. McKenna was required to have one as she is a nurse. I do not plan to get the vaccine and one good thing about having had Covid, I have some natural immunity for a while at least. Enjoyed my visit with you today.

  12. I am waiting on my rainbow, too. I got the vaccine last Thursday mainly just a sore arm but that quickly went away.
Love the quote at the end.

  13. I love that quote at the end! We got our vaccine a week ago...so thankful. Like you, I am not going to read or listen to the conspiracy theories. I remember when the Polio vaccine came out...our parents didn't for a second consider us not taking it. I know this vaccine was developed rather quickly but technology today I'm sure is very helpful. I also hope this is not the calm before the storm...although nothing much has seemed calm in recent times. I wasn't happy with the election but I am praying for our new president to be successful. I baked cookies today:) Like I needed any more reasons to eat!!! I eat out of boredom and I have been bored for awhile now. Not today though as I had to help my 9th grade g'daughter answer questions from LORD OF THE FLIES...and they were HARD! I hated that book when I had to read it in college and I still hate it now!!! It's so dark and depressing! And right now our kids sure don't need dark & depressing since they are doing virtual school. I admire you for taking such good care of so many family members. I don't live close to my 92 yr. old mother so my older brother does a lot. However, mama is still living at home alone and refuses tuo think of doing otherwise:) Sorry about your sore arm...hubby had a sore arm too but I didn't really. Take care...and hope we all see lots of rainbows in the future.

  14. I appreciate that you are like both your mother and father. I think I am, too. Probably more my Dad than my Mom. But a little like both.

Thankful you guys have gotten the first vaccine. I am on the list and hope to get it soon. My mom had her first inoculation and we are waiting for her to get the second. Hope then they will open up her assisted living apartment complex again to eating in the dining room, allowing residents to visit with each other. It has been such a long time coming.

  15. I will get my first dose this morning, hope it all goes well. I am more concerned about the second dose and it’s side effects. Hopefully everyone who is wanting to get vaccinated will have the chance real soon. Take care.

  16. I am so happy that you get to visit with your Dad, I know you put a smile on his face when you walk in the door. I also took my first dose this week and yes, my arm is still sore too. It is getting better. I am not listening to any of the talk about the vaccine, it's a personal choice and I chose to get it. Enjoy your weekend dear friend, HUGS!
