I've been missing in the "blogging world" the past 2-3 weeks but am so glad to be back with Joyce and the Wednesday Hodgepodge today.
2. Tell us something about where you were and what you were doing in June of 1988? If you weren't born yet, June of 1998. Or if that doesn't work, June of 2008.
Heaven's to Betsy, the above photo was taken near that time and it appears we were likely dressed and ready for church. Big hair surely must have been "the thing" at that time or at least Bridget and I must have thought it was. ~chuckle~ But, I'm pretty sure we looked about like all the other Moms and daughters of that time.
3. A place in your home or outdoor space where you feel 'snug as a bug in a rug'?
In my recliner with my afghan over me. It is without a doubt my favorite place to land in the evenings. If we have no plans for the evening, you will find me there between 6:00 - 6:30 PM and I'll likely be there until I go to bed. I rarely sit down any other time of the day but come evening, I'm all about sitting and reclining.
4. June is National Fresh Fruits and Vegetable Month. Do you normally get your 4-5 servings each day? What's a favorite summer dish you make/serve/like to be served-ha! made with one of your favorite summer fruits. A favorite summer dish made with a favorite summer veg? How do you feel about cooking in the summer months?
I definitely do NOT get 4-5 servings of fruits and veggies per day.
I'm not a huge fruit lover but I do enjoy blueberries a lot and I make a great Blueberry Nut Bread, delicious Blueberry Muffins, and a great Blueberry Pound Cake with fresh blueberries in the summer. I enjoy all of them equally so it would hard to pick a favorite.
I am a veggie lover and corn rates right at the top of my list of an all time favorite, not just a summer favorite. I'll take it creamy, in a casserole, plain but am not a fan of "on the cob."
I have to admit that I do not do much cooking for Tommy and me. If I cook then we're likely having company and I do enjoy cooking for company. We live off of grilled sandwiches, BLT's and the such in the summer. I cook a whole lot more in the winter because we are big fans of soups, stews, chili and gumbo.
I love to bake and generally I bake cookies at least twice a week. Thankfully I have a whole lot of will power and generally only eat one out of each batch then I package them in freezer containers and over time share them with friends.
5. Do you have a summer reading list? If so share a title or two we can add to our own.
I just ordered these 3 because they were all recommended as GREAT reading by some of my friends. And, Francine Rivers is one of my all time favorite authors. I use to read all the time but haven't as much in recent years. Maybe this summer I'll get back with it.
6. Insert your own random thought here.
What a wonderful idea to rent the whole bed and breakfast! Congrats on 50 years!!!
ReplyDeleteHappy Anniversary! 50 years...WOW! That Case is just ADORABLE. I'm miffed at Joyce for putting in the question about books; now my overflowing cubby is going to be more overflowing. Apparently Lisa Wingate is a good author as well? I don't think I've read any of her books. I'll definitely look into it.
ReplyDeleteEnjoyed reading your answers this morning as I sip on my coffee. So glad you had a wonderful trip with your family for your 50th. I enjoy cooking and baking and seems I am all the time cooking and baking. Like you, I freeze a lot of goodies and I am not a big sweet eater so not temped to indulge. But, there is nothing better than a fresh hot baked cookie right out of the oven! Marty will eat leftovers until they are gone and always has so needless to say when I cook I cook a lot just so it makes it easier on me through the week. My family tells me that I don't know how to cook any way but BIG! LOL! TRUTH! Oh, I bought the Spurtles you talked about. Mentioned it a few post ago. I LOVE them. I like all thing kitchen and I have used those things daily and for everything you can imagine. And girl, I know all about that recliner! My favorite spot to be in afternoons as well. I always have a blanket nearby. Hope you have a great week and happy 50th again. Hugs and blessings, Cindy
ReplyDeleteHi! I'm two, maybe 3 weeks new to Hodge podge..I don't remember. I'm enjoying it. Loved your answers. I have the book Before We Were Yours but haven't started it yet. Your grandson is a cutie. I think we'll see lots of kiddos for the first answer.
ReplyDeleteYES, cuter than a June bug:) Looks like you all had a wonderful trip and HAPPY 50th! Enjoy your day dear friend, HUGS!
ReplyDeleteHappy 50th Anniversary...what an amazing thing! It looks like you all have a wonderful time on your celebration trip.
ReplyDeleteThat Lisa Wingate book is so good and it's not an easy story. It's based loosely on a true story. Your celebration looks perfect! Congratulations on reaching this milestone anniversary. Yes, your little guy is cuter than a June bug.
ReplyDeleteI may be young but that sounds like me: once I'm in the recliner, I'm not getting up. Of course, so long as the kitchen is closed and kids have been put to bed.
ReplyDeleteCongratulations on your 50th wedding anniversary! Love the pictures!
ReplyDeleteI am so glad you had such a great celebration with the family. So very special! Great pictures and lots of memories made! xo
ReplyDeleteAs we had to cut our Indiana trip short and were traveling yesterday, I didn't make the Hodgepodge this week. Again, but hoping to get back next week. I agree, that little boy doll is cute as he can be. But so were all your grands. Your trip does sound absolutely perfect.
ReplyDeleteYour anniversary celebration sounds perfect! The T-shirts for the grandchildren were a real clever idea.
ReplyDeleteHappy 50th anniversary to you. Looks like you picked the perfect spot. Love those numbered shirts on your grands!
ReplyDeleteSo enjoying the book recommendations. Thank you. Happy slightly belated Hodgepodge!
ReplyDeleteHappy Belated Anniversary! I loved seeing your photos of the family and the fresh produce. What was I doing in June of 1988? I was 15 and was a month away from meeting my husband to be.
ReplyDeleteTake good care!
xoxo,
Lindy
