Wednesday Hodgepodge

It's Wednesday, and a cold one at that, but not too cold to join up with Joyce and the HP.

1. What keeps you blogging?
A few things:
1) I enjoy writing
2) I so enjoy the friendships I have formed, many are so near and dear to my heart.
3) It serves as a way for me to document my life

2. Some people like to travel in the winter months. Do you enjoy the beach in winter? According to Southern Living the best U.S. beach towns to visit this winter are-

St Simons Island (Georgia), Hilton Head (South Carolina), Bald Head Island (North Carolina), Seaside (Florida), Bay St. Louis (Mississippi), Cape San Blas (Florida), South Padre Island (Texas), Folly Beach (South Carolina), Chincoteague (Virginia), Duck Key (Florida), Nags Head (North Carolina), and Fairhope (Alabama)

Have you been to any of the towns listed (in any season)? Which on the list appeals to you most this winter?
I have been to Hilton Head, Nags Head and Fairhope.  Fairhope is a favorite place of mine.  Such a cute, quaint town, sort of like stepping back in time.  I doubt they are much better off weatherwise than we are right now, so guess I'd probably need to head to Seaside or Duck Key, Florida for a little warmth and sunshine.

3. What's a song you're embarrassed to know all the lyrics to? Are you really embarrassed or do just think you should be?

Well, I cannot think of one right now but I'm quite sure that there is some country song with less than stellar lyrics that I could recite.  I haven't listened to country music in years but somehow that doesn't matter when it comes to remembering lyrics.  If only I could think of one.

4. When you were a kid what's something you thought would be fantastic as an adult, but now that you're an adult you realize it's not all that fantastic?
Oh, my goodness, I could not wait to get to go to the grocery store, fill my cart and then go home and cook all these amazing meals.  Well, it  didn't take me long to figure out what a chore grocery shopping is and also the chore of preparing meals.  But, I have been doing it for a very long time now and I have survived. ~giggle~

5. Share a quote you hope will inspire you in 2018.

I like everything about this quote, especially speaking gently, loving much and being kind.  I'm thinking it should be our nation's motto this coming year, especially the media.  I'm going to try and be a good example of this quote.

6. Insert your own random thought here.

Many of you would get a kick out of the way our area was shut down yesterday and it continues today.

This is what it looked like at our house and on the hill coming into our subdivision.  Hubby and I got out about 8:30 to check things out, stopped and had breakfast and came back home.  In the time we left and the time we headed back things had changed significantly.  When we left the snow was just powdery and there really wasn't any ice.  Well, the temps were extremely low and as the snow was driven over and somewhat melted, it froze back slick, slick!  There were very few businesses open and not likely to be open today.

But, it was a day full of fun for my Princess, Sweetheart and their Mom and Dad.  And, Bella  wasn't sure how she felt about all of it.

I really hope it will all be gone completely by tomorrow and we can get back on track.  We all just got back into our routines from the holidays and now this.  I'm sure many of you are chuckling at this but this is sooooo unusual for us and pretty much stops us in our tracks.

Happy mid-week folks!

  1. Your snow does indeed look cold. We don't miss Colorado snow at all and are ready for a warmer winter to show up!

Your quote is so good and our nation needs kindness so much. There is a terrible atmosphere of anger nearly everywhere.

May we be ambassadors of gentleness and generosity of spirit!

  2. You've gotta love winter weather in the South! We were out yesterday because the snow was supposed to start at 10:00 a.m. but didn't start until 2:00. With the temps expected to be so low for the next couple of days, I'll be very surprised if we go back until next week.
    Fantastic quote; thanks for sharing!

  3. Good morning, Lea! I love the quote you shared and indeed, what a great one it would be for our country. Sweet pics and times with your cuties and your pup. Snow is magical!

  4. Have you tried the Walmart app and pick up service? I plan to use it soon for grocery shopping if I can ever find the time. The only good thing about the snow was that it kept me from a road trip for work that I really did not want to do. Stay warm!

  5. If you need more snow, I would be happy to ship you some! Hope you have a wonderful, warm week!

  6. Your snow pics make me laugh - we call that "April snow" here! And nothing is ever closed with that "dusting"!! Enjoy it, if anything, snow days make you slow down and rest a little!

  7. We got 10 inches and it’s minus 15 wind chill but a heat wave of 48 headed on Saturday. Love that your babies got a snow day! Have a wonderful and cozy day!

  9. We've had snow today, not a lot but as you know in the south it doesn't take a lot to bring activity to a screeching halt. Hubs is at the dentist as I type, so I'll see what he says about the roads. I love a snow day! I think it's supposed to stay really cold so tomorrow might be icy but we're back up into warmer temps this weekend. Enjoy your day!

  10. Excellent quote and one I hope to follow better this year than ever before. Your home in the snow is very pretty. Stay safe and warm and have a great day!

  11. LOL Fairhope, AL got snow last night! Crazy, right! I always enjoy the Hodge Podge posts. I love seeing your snow photos. We're stranded due to ice and snow on the mountain but I'm hopeful we can get out tomorrow.

  12. I saw the funniest poster on FB this morning that sizes up the situation here. We are Louisiana Strong when it comes to hurricanes, oil spills, tornadoes, floods, ect., but a little snow will shut us down so fast your head will spin. Isn't that true?

  13. visiting from hodgepodge - we live in the deep south and were supposed to have snow and ice yesterday but the front dipped down even lower and actually hit south of us! I, too, LOVE Fairhope and posted pictures today.

  15. I've never been to Hilton Head but I'm hoping to visit there later this year. When I was little we vacationed in Myrtle Beach every year. I totally understand the snow situation - in Seattle we become completely paralyzed by even an inch! Hope everything melts soon!

  16. Great post Lea. I haven’t been to any of those places....no snow here, but I feel for you. Your quote is perfect. There should be more kindness in the world. Funny about the grocery shopping. I used to love it, but now it’s a chore....lol blogging is a great way to meet other special people in the world. It is like keeping a journal and you can even print your blog in a lovely book. Happy 😃Thursday dear Lea.

  17. I've wanted to go to Hilton Head for years and one of these days I will. That is a great quote and so true. Black ice is the worst. So dangerous, but snow days are fun! XO

  18. Oh yes, that is a great quote...wouldn't it be wonderful if the world we lived would always put that into practice? And myself included! We got nearly 10 inches of snow here! The sun is out today and is supposed to get above freezing...hoping to get out later this afternoon...cabin fever is setting in!

  19. What a winter we are having in the South Lea, I've never been so cold in my life! I'm afraid none of the beach towns you've mentioned have been warm this week, with the exception of very south Florida...our beach house is 1 hour south of Fairhope on the Alabama gulf coast and we had 1/2 inch of ice yesterday!! I love love Fairhope, have several good friends there that I visit. I also have been to Hilton Head, Bald Head, Folly Beach and Seaside, all such great places~ fun to dream about vacation days in this cold weather, let's hope we all thaw out soon!

  20. Lea, in NE AL we have had a very cold week, but we got no snow and South AL did! I love Fairhope, such a sweet place. Your grands are adorable! Happy Friday!

  21. Okay - you really MUST go to St. Simons!! We have vacationed there every year for 7 years (sometimes twice a year) and hope to retire there. I know it was crazy for your 'southern folk' this week. We up North DO kind of roll our eyes BUT we have to remember y'all have no equipment/experience/resources to deal with the dusting and ice, etc. so yes, it CAN truly shut things down. My sis-in-law lives in San Antonio and they were shut down for two days. Looks like the kids have the right idea about making the best of it!!

  22. We got less snow than you did and it shut things down here in south Alabama. The ice is the problem.
Love your quote and agree with you that I wish our country would adopt this motto. It is so discouraging to watch the news.
    I enjoyed your post.
