Well, I just have to tell you that I am "as pleased as punch" over my new blog design. It was not nearly as painful as I had thought it would be and Karen of Valentine Designs is so much fun to work with. And, I have to tell you that the cup and saucer used on my header and dividers is out of my demitasse cup collection. Now, how neat is that?
We are still enjoying the most gorgeous Fall weather. Our mums are "doing their thing" and the sweet potato vine is so much happier now that things have cooled off a bit. I'm looking forward now to planting pansies in a few more weeks.
It's "project time" around our house and I'm so, so thankful that it is an outside project this time. Hubby is adding a covered parking area on to his shop for his boat and hunting vehicle. And, we're having our patio partially covered and lighting and fans added. I think both are going to be nice additions to our house, especially the patio part. I can't even begin to tell you how many projects we've undertaken in our 29 years of living here. I think when one owns a home, the projects just never end, especially maintenance projects.
Isn't this the cutest little bench! It beckoned unto me until I finally gave in and bought it. I saw it at an antique, interior design and consignment shop back in early July. I looked at it and thought how cute my two grandchildren would be sitting on it for pictures. Decided that I would not yield to the temptation. I went back sometime in August and walked away without it again. But, 3 weeks ago when I stopped in the shop I snatched it up. I cannot believe that I did not take a picture of what it looked like when I bought it, but it completely escaped me to do that. It was in excellent shape structurally but was faded out and discolored. The owner of the shop where I purchased it told me that she had bought it at an estate sale and it had been sitting on a front porch for many years. She could not say that it was an antique but she knew that it was very old. I brought it back and showed it to my Dad who is quite knowledgeable in wood and he said that it was made of walnut. Yea!! I love walnut! Then he looked it over very carefully and noted that it was put together with wooden pegs rather than nails and that is certainly a sign of age. He asked me what I paid for it and when I told him, he assured me that I had gotten a really good deal for a very beautiful piece. Can I just tell you how that delighted me!
I brought it home, rubbed Howard Feed N Wax on it and it looked like it had just come off the showroom floor. I have it in our foyer and I couldn't be more pleased with it.
There's just nothing like coffee (or your preferred drink) with the Company Girls on Friday. Rachel somehow always finds the time to work us in to her busy schedule. Thanks Rachel, we love you!

LOVE. LOVE, LOVE the new look, it is perfect for you and how neat that your teacup is on there! Love the bench. We have one sitting against our stairway like that and it is one of my favorite places! You will love that covered porch when it is all done, you will have to show us pictures!
ReplyDeleteHave a great weekend!
I LOVE the new look, too...I'm desperate for a new look so I'll be looking into who did yours! :)
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing!
I love the new look! Also, we plan on being in our house through the kids' high school years (they are 6 and 4 now), so I don't get frustrated when I can't do a project NOW. There is plenty of time, just like you. I would love a covered patio -- it's on the list. Hope the project goes smoothly, LA Mom!
ReplyDeleteLove your new design! And the bench: absolutely beautiful!
ReplyDeletePansies: are they suppose to be in the sun or shade? (I'm looking for something to put in my porch planter that gets very little sun.)
I love your little bench ~ so glad it was still there for you =)
ReplyDeleteI was wondering if the new header had pictures of your very own treasures ~ how fun!
Your new blog design is fab!! Love it! I collect teacups too, noticed your teacup right off :)
ReplyDeleteWhat a great bench! It is beautiful and looks great in your entry. Can't wait to see the pictures of the grandchildren filled bench!
Hope all the projects come together. Sounds wonderful! I am happy for you that they are all outside projects! I think you should have a cup of tea, in one of your pretty cups, sitting on your new bench, while watching all the progress from INSIDE!! (It got warm again on us didn't it:/)
Blessing to you!
LydiaCate
