Lea's Daybook - July 4, 2014

It's time for a Daybook entry with Peggy at The Simple Woman's Daybook.

FOR TODAY

Outside my window...the sun is peeking it's head out and it's looking to be a beautiful day for the 4th.

I am thinking...how very blessed I am to be an American.  In spite of all that is wrong with our great nation, I still cannot imagine being a part of any greater country.

I am thankful...for a good trip to visit our daughter and her family in Mt. Pleasant, Texas.  We went for a couple of days the beginning of this week for our first visit since they moved.  It was such an easy drive and we are more than thankful to have them at a much closer distance.

In the kitchen...there isn't and hasn't been a whole lot going on.  My Hubby is a happy man with a BLT since he has fresh tomatoes and I've fixed those more times than I care to admit.  But, it works and as I said, he's happy, so that's all that really matters.  Since I do not eat tomatoes ~I know, what's wrong with me~ I just eat a BL.

I am wearing...well, patriotic of course..........white capris and a red top.

I am creating...a Shutterfly photo book of the construction of our new house.  I don't know that it's anything our children will want one day, but I'm having fun documenting everything as we go along and I suppose that's all that really matters.

I am going... to check out a new business this morning called
K and K's Giving Tree. A gal I've known for many years and her daughter opened the shop just recently and their website is enough to lure you right over.  I can't wait to go over and check it out.  And, they are having a 20% off sale for the 4th, so that makes it even better. They have everything from apparel to home decor.

I am wondering...how the steroid injection(s) are going to work on my neck issues.  I saw a Neurologist this past Monday about my neck and he identified my issue as a bone spur putting pressure on a nerve.  He feels that the injections "could" take care of the issue and so I'm on board with that.  I will have them done at The Pain Clinic and am waiting on them to call me for an appointment. Time will tell.

I am reading...mainly blogs right now.  I usually spend an hour or so in the evenings reading my favorite blogs.  I so enjoy many of the great friends I've made through blogging these past 5 years.

I am hoping...that our new house construction will continue to go as smoothly as the first month has gone.

I am looking forward to...picking out the various items and paint colors for our new house.  I've looked and looked on Houzz and found so many wonderful ideas and hopefully can incorporate some of them into our home.

I am learning...more than I care to know about granite.  I have been searching and searching for just the right pattern for our kitchen.  I never knew there were so many different kinds, and so many different grades.  I mean, I just thought "granite was granite."

Around the house...hubby and I are staying busy with the usual things plus all that building a new house entails.  But, as I said, it's going smoothly.

I am pondering...whether to have my kitchen cabinets stained or painted in our new house.  I'm leaning very heavily towards painting at this time. Any thoughts?

A favorite quote for today...isn't this the truth!!!
“All great change in America begins at the dinner table.” -Ronald Reagan

One of my favorite things...is enjoying conversation with my Grans.  They are 4 1/2 and 5 1/2 and hardly miss a trick.  I had my little Princess with me the other day when I stopped by the ATM machine to get some cash.  The machine was empty and Hanna Beth could tell that I was aggravated over the situation.  She promptly said to me, "CiCi you might just be too old to use that machine."  It was hysterical and definitely took care of the aggravation I was feeling at the moment.

A few plans for the rest of the week...not anything big, just enjoying the weekend and may even find some time to get in the kitchen and do a little "real" cooking.

A peek into my day...Hubby and I are going to enjoy a lovely bar-b-que buffet later today.

  1. It does look like it's going to be a beautiful 4th. Should be a great day for fireworks!

I am so thankful to live in America where we have the freedom to watch fireworks, go to the church of our choice, read books of our own choosing...

Oh my..steroid injections. I'll be praying for you. I have to have cortisone shots ~ not fun.

I am reading: blogs & books. I will also begin reviewing books again. The first one is in the mail to me. I'm so looking forward to it.

Plans for my day: still recuperating from surgery. Hubby plans to fix supper and take the boys to see the fireworks.

    Have a great day Cici!!

  3. Good morning! Sure hope you get the relief you are hoping for with the injections. I did get them for my knees as well, and they did provide some relief, if it had only lasted for more than a few days...I can honestly say the construction of a new home would have me just beside myself with anticipation and joy. Soo many decisions. My two cents worth on the cupboards would be to go for a stain...in a color. Kind of the best of both that way. Paint seems to be the more current modern trend, but it just will chip no matter what I fear, where the stain won't. And it comes in many colors. Just a thought. Enjoy your 4th!
