It's always fun to join up with Mrs. 4444 on Fridays to share some fragments from the past week. Most of mine are surrounding the construction of our new house, it's pretty much all consuming right now.
It's decisions, decisions and more decisions when it comes to building a house. This week my decorator and I picked out all the lighting for the house. And, it really was quite simple as she directed me with her personal suggestions. I think there was only one fixture that she chose that I didn't care for. The above photo is the style of the fixtures we will be using and all in an oil rubbed bronze finish. We are using lots and lots of recessed lighting in the house, so there really are not that many decorative fixtures. And, we will be using fans (without lights) in almost every room. I found choosing the lights to be fun because we are getting into the decorative part of the house and I do love that.

The electricians began their work this week and Hubby literally spent hours on the site making sure that the plugs and switches were all correctly placed. I met with them (pictured above) for a while putting in my "two cents worth." ~grin~ I'm pretty sure they think we are doing "overkill" when it comes to outlets but as Hubby says, "you can never have too many outlets." They were the nicest crew. Again, lots and lots of decisions but so far, none that we haven't been able to handle.

I bet if Hubby has pulled out his measuring tape once he has pulled it out 100+ times since construction began. He is doing his very best to avoid any costly mistakes and I really think our contractor appreciates Tommy's attention to detail. In fact, I "think" he would like to take Tommy on as his assistant. ~chuckle~
In the top left photo is the octagonal shaped raised ceiling above the small island (there will be a big island too) in my kitchen. It is one of my favorite things in the house. It is going to be stained beaded board and a large light fixture will be hanging down from the center of it.
In the right top is pictured our eating area and great room. We are so excited about all the light and view that those windows are going to provide for us. And, they look out on the pond. The windows should be installed in another couple of weeks.
In the lower right picture is the room above Tommy's shop. I guess it will be called a storage room for lack of a better term. But, I don't like the term "storage" (it seems that those kind of places always end up with items that need to be gotten rid of, not stored) and not exactly sure what he will decide to do with that space but I told him it reminded me of a long tunnel right now.

NOTE: Hubby and I will fly out Sunday morning headed to a convention in Las Vegas. So, I'll probably be "out of sight" for a few days but never fear, I'll be back with lots to tell. ~smile~
Love the lighting! Reading to the Pre-K class looks like fun. Enjoy your trip.
ReplyDeleteOh Lea the house is going to be just gorgeous. How fun this must all be. I'd be so excited. The time spent in Hannah Beth's classroom was so nice. I'd love that the school does such a thing, and I bet the kids do to. Enjoy your time away.
ReplyDeleteIt's so exciting to build a new home, isn't it. We did it 18 years ago and we're still enjoying it today.
ReplyDeleteLea... I'm with your hubby about the outlets. We live in an old house and outlets are scarce and in the most awkward places. Your house will be gorgeous! Have fun in Vegas.
ReplyDeleteLove your light fixture choices. If I could redo all mine in my house, I would got with the oiled bronze look.
ReplyDeleteI like your style of home decor. And how special to read to HB's class. Nothing like a classroom full of kiddoes to make life a little more fun (and tiring). Enjoy Vegas . See you back soon, Lord willing.
ReplyDeleteYour home looks fantastic! And high five to your husband for being so careful with the electrical switches etc. That makes a huge difference when it's actually time to LIVE in the house.
ReplyDeleteHave a great time in Las Vegas. Safe Travels.
Happy Friday Fragments.
Can't wait to see the finished product! With the codes being what they are now, there have to be a lot more outlets than there used to be. My house is 52 years old, and I miss all of the outlets in our SC house (which was brand new when we bought it).
ReplyDeleteI bet HB was so proud to have her CiCi there with her!
I loved choosing lighting when we remodeled our kitchen and bathroom in our previous home. You and I seem to have some of the same tastes in lighting. Enjoy your trip!
ReplyDeleteThe house is certainly coming along! How exciting. I remember those days long ago when every item had to be carefully chosen. I can't wait for the finished product photos and I'm sure you can't wait either.
ReplyDeleteI love that you read to the class. Each week we have a Mystery Reader in our preschool class. It is usually a mom or dad or grandparent. The children get so excited and love to sit on the lap of their special person as they read to the class.
Blessings and love,
Debbie
We built our home 14 years ago, and so each of your steps takes me back. I enjoy the posts that you share the progress, and I like your choice of lighting fixtures.
ReplyDeleteAs for your visit to your granddaughter's class, I am sure she must of been proud of you as her grandma. The pictures are so sweet.
