It's all about "back to school" for this month's questions from the gals over at The Blended Blog. This was such fun answering these questions and once again, my mind was flooded with memories.
1. Did you love school or hate it? Well, I would have to say I loved school or maybe I should say I really enjoyed school, especially the social aspect.
2. Start school before or after Labor day? I never, ever started school until after Labor Day and I personally think that's the way it should be today. I mean, whoever and why did they decide it's necessary to start school by the 2nd week of August. ~insane~
3. Wake up: eager beaver or slow poke? I have always waked up an eager beaver, raring to go!
4. Favorite breakfast? My Dad usually fixed our breakfast and he could make some really good pancakes and I was a happy gal when I sat down to a plate of them.
5. Favorite cereal? Well, back when I was a child, the choices on cereal were very limited but I did love a big bowl of hot grits.
6. School uniform or not uniform? No uniform, I don't remember many kids wearing uniforms "back in the day."
7. New outfit for first day or not? I'm sure I had a new outfit but don't really remember. A new outfit wasn't that big of a deal at that time.
8. Walk to school or ride the bus? For my first 3 years I walked to school. We lived a little less than a block from the school and my Mom walked me to the end of the driveway, hugged me and off I went. My Mom never had one concern that anything would happen to me. ~a different time for sure~ From the 4th thru high school I always rode a bus.
9. Backpack, tote or messenger bag? I think what I carried in elementary was called a satchel and after that I just carried my books in my arms.
10. Eat school lunch or pack lunch?I always ate the school lunch and I remember, for the most part, thinking they were very good. The lunch room ladies always made the most delicious rolls and gave us honey to drizzle on them.
11. Remember the little milk cartons? White or chocolate? In my early school years I drank milk out of a little glass milk bottle, cartons were not an option. And, it was always white milk.
12. Paper bag or lunch box? Neither one, I always ate the school lunch
13. Favorite thing to do at recess? I loved kick ball, red rover and london bridges. ~those date me for sure~
14. Favorite back to school supply item? I always loved my new writing tablets or composition books.
15. Chalkboard or dry erase board? Well, since dry erase boards were not around "back then", it would be chalkboard.
16. Regular pencil or mechanical? I did not know anything about a mechanical pencil until high school and not even sure there was such before I was in high school. So, I'm sure it was a regular pencil all the way through.
17. Homework as soon as you got home or after dinner? Oh, I wanted it done as soon as I got home so I could go play and not worry about it.
18. Favorite after school snack? I don't know if I even had a favorite, but I'm sure it included a cold glass of milk.
19. Favorite after school show? We didn't have a TV until I was 9 years old and I have no memory of ever coming in after school and turning on the TV. We always just headed for outside to play.
20. Favorite subject in school? I don't really remember having a favorite
21. Least favorite school subject? That would have been Geography, just did not interest me in the least and I guess that might have something to do with the fact that I cannot read a map to this day.
22. Name of your best friend in high school? That would be Rachel and Rachel and I are still friends to this day. We have not seen each other in many years but we stay connected through Facebook.
23. High school mascot type? We were the Brookville Bees ~buzz buzz~
24. SAT or ACT? It was the SAT and I'll just leave it at that
25. Favorite year in school? I don't remember any year being all that bad but I loved the first grade and my teacher, Mrs. Morton. She was such a dear and the perfect teacher for my first year.
26. Class ring or no class ring? I definitely had a class ring but it was NOT from the high school I graduated from. We ordered our class rings the first semester of our Junior year and the second semester of my Junior year we moved and I went to a new school and graduated there.
Have yourself a great new week and a wonderful Labor Day today. It sort of marks the end of summer and hopefully fall is just around the corner. I'll be away the rest of this week having some fun and will will share the details of our fun next week.

Oh Lea, I loved this! I bet you were the sweetest lil schoolgirl! I forgot about kick ball and so sweet your daddy made breakfast. This was a fun theme to reminisce about! Enjoy your day pretty lady!
ReplyDeleteI loved that you said you enjoyed school lunch...these days that's rare. LOL But those rolls do sound yummy! AND a big ol' YES to after Labor Day!!! Glad to have found your blog today!!
ReplyDeleteInteresting, I remember hating school lunches and using my lunch money to buy the lunch of a friend who brought from home.
ReplyDeleteHow neat that both our dads fixed breakfast for us! Happy Labor Day!
ReplyDeleteOh I forgot about red rover! Yes, I loved it too but I was always afraid of being the weakest link! haha! Thanks for linking up with the Blended Blog!
ReplyDeleteI love this. I'm going to try to participate later this week.
ReplyDeleteThis was so much fun to read and think about my answers along with you. Some quite similar.
ReplyDeleteKickball was one of my favorite recess games too. I almost said geography was my least favorite and maybe that's why I'm not a great map reader either. Thank heavens for GPS!!! Wouldn't it be great if mama's could hug their sweet little ones at the end of the drive and send them off with no worries today? Loved reading your answers. Happy Tuesday!
ReplyDeleteThat was fun! We always started school after Labor Day. I don't know why they have changed that in so many areas. Have a nice week.
ReplyDeleteThis was fun. We loved a giant game of kickball too. Hopscotch and dodgeball were other favorites. Recess has changed a bit I think : )
ReplyDeleteI so enjoyed this! Several of my answers would have been similar. I loved Hopscotch at school with bobby pins for my marker, lol. We used to play Chinese jump rope, or skip tape too...soo fun. Haven't thought of these things in sooo long. Have a good week!
ReplyDeleteHey Lea, Hope you are having a good week. I just wanted to stop by and say hello today. Asking if you would be praying for Florida. We are praying that the Lord will send that gal Irma straight to the sea. Hugs and blessings, Cindy
ReplyDeleteThis was so much fun, I see you and I both did a lot of things very similar back in our school days, thanks for the walk down memory lane~smile~ have a blessed day.
ReplyDeleteBlessings,
Sue
Good answers all, Lea. I'm with you on school starting AFTER Labor Day. Summer should not end for our kids in early to mid August (or any time before September 1st).
