The Wednesday Hodgepodge

From this Side of the Pond

I've missed the last couple of weeks of The Hodgepodge but am so glad to be back with it this week.

1. Summer is upon us this week in the Northern hemisphere. Tell us three things on your summer bucket list.
1 - Enjoy some special time with our daughter when she and the Grandsons come to visit in two weeks.
2 - Bridget and I are going to Pawhuska, Ok, home of Ree Drummond, Pioneer Woman, for my birthday the end of July.  We will be staying at The Lodge and doing all things Pioneer Woman. Bridget and family only live about 2 hours from Pawhuska, so we'll head there and leave the guys at home while we go have a little Mother/daughter fun.
3 - Hubby and I will head to Virginia the first of September where I will visit with my only surviving aunt and several of my cousins on my Mom's side of the family.  I'm very excited!

2. Something fun you used to do as a kid in the summertime?

For most of my growing up years I lived close to 1000 miles away from either my maternal Grandmother or my paternal Grandparents.  So, we would load up and head to see them and I would get so excited I could hardly stand it.  I not only had Grandparents I got to see but several cousins to have a good time with.  I have the fondest of memories of times such as this.

3. Rooftop or backyard? Why?

Well, not sure I've ever been on a rooftop, but I've spent many an hour in a backyard, so I'm going with what's familiar, the backyard.

4. Do you read food labels? Place importance on them? Make an effort to find out/care about where your food comes from?

Yes, I pretty much read every food label because I am very calorie conscious and I will often not buy something if I feel the calorie count is "over the top."  But, there are times that it just doesn't matter and I'll use a lot of self control and only eat a bite or two of something that is high in calories.  I don't worry about where my food comes from except for seafood and that has to say USA.  And, guess, truth be told,  I really prefer that all of the food I eat come from the USA

5. A song you'll have on repeat this summer?

I do not have a song on repeat thus far, and not sure that I will.  The song that came to my mind as soon as I read this question was "Summertime and The Living is Easy."

6. Insert your own random thought here.
Like most of you, I am soooooo sick of all the political ranting and raving!  I rarely even watch the news anymore.  I will watch our local news and that's about it.  I've never seen such ugliness, filth and lack of respect and it makes me very sad.  And, I do often find myself singing, "What a day that will be when my Savior I shall see, when I look into His face and He takes me by the hand."  Yes, what a day that will be!  No more ranting, raving, or disrespect but sweet, sweet peace.

  1. We hardly ever watch the news anymore either. I follow Fox news on Facebook, so if anything happens, that's normally how I find out about it and the political turmoil is usually a lot more positive. We don't watch the local news very much, either. I follow KTVE for that. Ha! I guess you could say I get all my "information" from Facebook.

  2. Good morning dear Lea. Oh I am excited for you that you are going to spend time with your girl on such a great trip. I am jealous. Would love to go there one day. I do hope you enjoy and I can't wait to see the pictures. I enjoy getting to watch the Pioneer woman occasionally with her cooking show. So down to earth and my kind of gal. I have several things of Pioneer woman. You will have so much fun as you seem to enjoy life to the fullest. My kind of gal dear Lea. Hugs and blessings, Cindy

  3. You have some awesome plans to look forward to. That's a great song to have on repeat. I also don't watch the news and Facebook is not the place to be right now. It makes me very sad.

  4. I don't think any of us really like where our country and its leaders are right now. So much divisiveness and ugliness. I rarely watch or listen to the news which I guess is like putting my head in the sand. I prefer thinking of it as survival after being involved in that stressful election period. All your upcoming trips sound wonderful, so enjoy! BTW, heard something about you changing churches this week.

  7. How fun it will be to go visit the Mercantile and stay at the Lodge! I bet you had to book that hotel months in advance. I know what you mean about the news. It's just so depressing to watch and every news outlet has their own "spin." It's hard to trust anything you hear these days.

  10. Summers visiting grandparents and cousins was always something I dreamed about! I grew up in the same town with mine and would you believe I do not have one single first cousin?!! I'm so glad my kids have a big extended family. I'm a label reader but more more looking for sugar content and real ingredients than calories these days. You are going to have such a blast on your getaway with your daughter!
