The Happy Hodgepodge

I can't believe that Joyce is actually doing a HP today as she's barely in her new home and I'm betting is still unpacking boxes.  But, she's a trooper and we do all appreciate her devotion to our Wednesday gathering.

1. Let's all think happy thoughts...share one of yours here.
America is on the path to being great again!

2. There's a Chinese proverb that says, "If you want happiness for an hour take a nap, if you want happiness for a day-go fishing...." What say you? If you want happiness for a day _____________.

let it go

3. Where do you go to decompress from the world around you?
Crawl in my recliner that looks out into our back with the pretty landscape and pond while all is quiet on the inside of the house.  I love a quiet house.

4. What song never fails to make you happy?

Great is Thy Faithfulness and when it is sung by Jordan Smith (The Voice winner last year) it makes me doubly happy.  Just awesome!!!!  Added note: I don't think the talent on The Voice this season can even compare to the talent of last years. ~that's just my opinion~

5. Wednesday is National Fast Food Day. Should that be a thing? Apparently it is, so tell us what's the last 'fast food' you consumed? If you were putting together your own version of a 'happy meal' what would you include?
On our trip to Dallas this past weekend we ran through McD's and I got a Bacon,Egg and Cheese Biscuit with a cup of coffee.  Breakfast is my favorite meal so my version of a happy meal would be: scrambled cheese eggs, crispy fried bacon, a fluffy biscuit with grape jelly and grits with butter and sugar. I rarely have such and that's likely a very good thing. ~smile~

6. In a few sentences tell us why you blog.
I was going to start journaling when our first grandchild was born, 8 years ago.  I was telling my daughter of my plans and she suggested that I blog instead and it would still serve the same purpose.  So, even though I really had no idea what a blog was, I began what has become a most enjoyable past time.  I have my blogs printed into a book form at the end of each year and I hope that when I'm gone from this earth that they will be something my children and Grans will enjoy browsing through.

7. List seven things you're feeling especially grateful for today.
1. The assurance I have of knowing this world is NOT my home.
2. Sharing life with a husband that has loved and respected me for 45 years.
3.  A son and daughter that make me proud.
4. 4 precious Grans that melt my heart.
5. My Dad who is still so wise and often imparts that wisdom to me.
6. An awesome extended family.
7. Wonderful friends that divide my grief and double my joy.

8. Insert your own random thought here.
I don't know about you, but I got a bit addicted to Fox News the weeks prior to the election.  I would turn it on at various times throughout the day to check in and then watch it every evening.  I have never gotten into an election before and it just about wore me  out.  But, it sure did make for a fun time  very early last Wed. morning.~a victory celebration~  But, I'm weaning myself off the news now.  Enough is enough!  I think I'd be a lot better off using the time I was watching/listening to the news in prayer for our new President elect.  He has such a task ahead of him and the media will be coming at him from all directions. ~heaven help him~

  1. I, too, believe that America is on the right path now, Lea! My husband and I watched Fox News every evening during the whole election process and sat up until 2 AM for the results to come in. We even high-fived each other. It's time for our country to come together and support our President-elect. I love "Great is Thy Faithfulness"! Hope you have a wonderful day!

  2. "Amen" to your random thought in #8. I'm right there with you.

And also like you, I enjoy a quiet house. Great blog post.

Before year's end, will you please write a post with more details about how you have your blog posts put into a book? Who you use, the cost, and a photo of the outside of the book.

I have heard of this but haven't looked into it. Would love to learn from your experiences.

  3. A delightful hodgepodge, Lea. Today is National Fast Food Day? Wow, I had no idea :)

  4. Interesting that we both find our own home to be our favorite, decompression place. And yes indeed to the need for a quiet home alone. I swore off Fox News for a few day after the election as well. I now listen to it when in the car and turn it on early in the morning. I'm finding the cabinet selection interesting. Have a great week.

  5. I've been wanting to print my posts onto books as well, I just haven't made the time yet. I thought it would be fun to let my kids and grand kids(someday) read them as well. I know that's something I would have loved to have had from any of my grandparents.

  6. I want to go to your happy place. It sounds divine!!!!

Had to agree with your random thought as well. I got into this election much more than any other. I watched the results come in until 1:30am despite having training that day. Nutso but so much fun!

By the way, your blog is gorgeous. I know I've visited a time or two before, but it's been awhile. Good to be back!!

  7. I've missed the hodgepodges...it's nice to read a few this morning. I too love a quiet house and beautiful view out the window for decompressing. I think many of us got into this election way more then usual...I know I did. And I am with you. I've turned fox news off and have gone back to my usual ways of keeping up and informed. Enough is definitely enough for me. I am going to try and keep very diligent in prayer for our new president. Mercy, has he got his work cut out for him, but agree that America has hope now for the future.

  8. I am still drowning in boxes and there's furniture in the garage to be figured out and our pool table won't be set up until December so I don't want to move too much into that room before it's done so I read Hodgepodges : ) I'm unpacking too. And doing the never ending laundry from everything that was in storage. If I ever get these beds made it will be a time of rejoicing! I'm not watching The Voice this year. I just didn't care for the juding panel. Last year will be hard to top, that's for sure! Thank you again for that wonderful surprise. I'm a bit of a cookbook hoarder so you chose right!

  9. Your happy meal sounds delicious! I've considered having my blog made into a book. Since you like it so well, maybe I'll check it out.

  10. Several hodgepodge participants have mentioned the "blog book"; I have never heard of this, I must do some research on how this is accomplished. Sounds like a great way to pass on your thoughts, actions, and dreams. Have a great week.
    Cheers!

  11. I don't watch the news either. I let my parents watch Fox News and then just tell me what's going on! They're glued to it and the weather channel! Good grief! Have a Happy Thanksgiving, Lea!

  13. Sorry I'm so late in getting here from last week. I agree, America is on the right track and I am very exciting about that! My dad kept watching CNN and kept calling me each day saying Donald is in trouble. I finally got him to watch FoxNews and he was so calm after that! I would love to put my posts in books but haven't done that yet.
