It's summer and a lot of road trips will be taken by folks. And, just in case you didn't know, Friday is National Road Trip Day.
1. Have you ever done a spur-of-the-moment road trip? Where did it take you?
It was years and years ago but I decided to go with a couple of my friends to Dallas the afternoon before they left the next morning. We had decided to go and I backed out because we were in the middle of remodeling our house and I didn't think I needed to be gone. But, Hubby assured me that my going wouldn't change a thing. So, I went. I am NOT a spur-of-the-moment of gal, much less for a road trip. I enjoy planning and working the plan.
2. If time and money wasn't an issue, what roads would you choose to travel and how long would you be gone?
Hubby and I pretty much have the time at this time in our lives but we do not take long road trips, we generally fly. We do drive to our daughters home outside of Oklahoma City and that's 8 hours and a stretch for us. We have talked of long road trips but that's about as far as it goes. We fly and then rent a car. Guess you would call that an air trip.

3. When you go on a long road trip, what snacks and beverages do you take? Do you pack a picnic? Does the back seat turn into a nest?
I will usually take a jar of peanuts and a bag of popcorn and some water. We stop so often that if we want something else we can just grab it when we make a bathroom or gas stop. We do not pack a picnic, we usually look for a Cracker Barrel and enjoy picnicking there.~smile~

4. Please tell us about something interesting or strange you have seen on the side of the road.
I'm sure I have seen all manner of strange or interesting things on the side of the road but I cannot recall one of them right now. So aggravating!

5. Who does the driving when you head out in the car? Do you stop in the rest areas along our Interstate highways when you have to use the facilities, or do you choose a fast-food restaurant or gas station instead? Not TMI... inquiring minds want to know!
Hubby does 90% of the driving when we travel. We do occasionally stop at rest areas but more times than not, we stop at convenience stores or fast food restaurants. It's just our preference.

6. Please share something with us about your week so far.
I've been preparing to leave in the morning. I will fly out very early for Des Moines and then 2-3 hours later I'll get in a car with my brother, his wife and daughter and we'll head to Chicago. My nephew will be getting married there on Saturday at noon. I've never been to Chicago and we're going to try and take in as much of it as possible on Friday. I just pray that the weather will co-operate for us and the wedding. I'll have lots of blog fodder when I get home Sunday evening. See you then!

Have a wonderful weekend in Chicago! My friend in Colorado just sent me a picture of SNOW, so they are really having some crazy weather in other parts of the country. I'm with you on the fly'n'drive option. We took a road trip to Nashville last year - 12 hours - and I think that is our max! Have a wonderful week!
ReplyDeleteLoved reading your answers! Have a fun weekend in Chi-town! I hope you get to check out the Bean...its so cool!
ReplyDeleteHave a wonderful time in Chicago! Weather is quite unpredictable there this time of year, but there's lots that's interesting. I also prefer to fly unless we can take back roads when driving and stop at interesting little towns.
ReplyDeleteEnjoy Chicago! I've never been, either, but have always wanted to visit.
ReplyDeleteHave a wonderful time in Chicago at the wedding. Hope you get a chance to see some sites in one of my favorite cities. Safe travels, Lea.
ReplyDeleteHave fun on your trip Lea. Enjoyed reading your answers. Hugs and blessings, Cindy
ReplyDeleteHave a great trip. Chicago was never a place I wanted to visit, however, that is where our train trip to the west began and I discovered Chicago was really a neat place to visit and wished we could have been there more than overnight.
ReplyDeleteI think you will enjoy Chicago. I've been there a few times but by no means have seen even a smidgen of what it has to offer. Can't wait to hear about the wedding and your sightseeing. You and Mr. T need to live spontaneously and take a little road trip. It can be so enjoyable to just ride.
ReplyDeleteHave fun in Chicago!!!
ReplyDeleteThanks for joining the Medley today! I enjoyed your answers and memories! I can't wait to hear about your trip to Chicago and the wedding! Hope you get some good site-seeing in! Safe travels!!
ReplyDeleteYeay for another 'not a spur of the moment' kind of gal! My Tom lived his first 30-some years in Chicago and longs to show it off (to me) someday. It's just not made it to my short-list, yet. Maybe I'll change my mind once I see your upcoming 'fodder.' Enjoy!
ReplyDeleteSafe travels.Enjoy your trip.
ReplyDeleteHave a wonderful trip to the Chicago wedding. Try to visit the Navy Pier if you can. Right on Lake Michigan and a fun spot with a great view of the Chicago skyline.
ReplyDeleteLove reading your responses! I agree with the long car drives. We used to love them, but now not so much. I can't wait to hear about your Chicago trip. We have a trip planned to Chicago during our fall break. Enjoy!
ReplyDeleteI enjoyed your answers and road trips are my favorite. Enjoy your trip to Chicago...I have never been one for big cities but does sound exciting! Have a safe trip and fabulous Memorial Day weekend!
ReplyDeleteHubby & I don't really do road trips...did take one years ago. Just got in the car with NO PLAN and it worked out rather well. HOWEVER!!! I am a girl that NEEDS A PLAN. Hope you have fun on your trip. Be careful in Chicago...I hear there is a lot of crime there!!!
