Fluffing Our Nest

It is no lie, I love adding decorative touches to our home.  I always have and likely always will.  It can be small touches or bigger touches, but it makes me a happy gal.  I've especially had fun since we moved into our new home 2 1/2 years ago.  I've had time to now look at things and decide on whether that is really the look I'm going for in some areas.  And, in a few areas I've found I preferred a different touch and I've had such fun finding just the right "something."  Thought I'd share a few of the things that I've been "fluffing our nest" with lately.

I've been looking for just the right touch for the decorative wall shelves in our dining room.  I've had decorative plates and oriental ladies on them and they did not "speak" to me but they each had their stay there as I continued my search for the "right thing."

I knew when I found it that I would know it.  I was browsing through Tuesday Morning recently and saw these elephants and I was so intrigued by them.   I immediately thought about those shelves and I pondered them for a minute and decided they were worth bringing home and trying.  I could always return them but they found their home once I placed them there.  I sent a  text to my decorator with the above pictures attached to see what she had to say.  AND, she approved!!!  Yea! I would have never imagined that I would choose elephants as decor but hey, I stepped out of my box and I love these fellas.

This table is in one of the corners of our Master Bedroom.  As you can tell, I do love birds!  And, I've been able to find quite a few decorative pieces in the pale aqua and brown.  Just last week I found the bird planter (front right) and knew that he would be perfect on this table.  My sister in law spotted the lamp a few months back in Tuesday Morning.  This entire touch makes me h-a-p-p-y!

This is one of our guest bedrooms in the main house and when we moved in I just had a sisal rug in it.  I went to an oriental rug show back in October and took one of the decorative pillows off the bed to see if I might find a rug to match.  And, I did and I absolutely love it and it added such a nice touch to the room.

I have wanted one of the vintage looking wooden churches for quite some time but have never seen one that wasn't rather rustic looking.  That is until I spotted this one a few months back.  It seems to be more traditional looking.

It fits perfectly in the little nook.  So, so much of my life was centered around the church (if you do not know, my Dad was a minister) that it just seemed most appropriate that I have this.

And, again, found this at Tuesday Morning.  It is a dim light, almost like a night light that I keep on all the time in one of our guest bathrooms.  It fit  perfectly and looks like it belongs there and I paid all of $12 for it.

I have been on the search for just the right table to go between mine and Tommy's recliners.  It had to be the right height, have a drawer, have a bottom shelve and match the other furnishing in that area.  Well, that was not easy to find but I persevered and  found exactly what I was looking for.  The pictures really don't do it justice but it is really a pretty piece of furniture and such a functional piece.  And, I ordered a new Tiffany lamp to use on it and am equally as happy with it.

So, there you have, my recent "fluffing of our nest."

  1. Lea,

Your home is fluffed up beautifully. I especially like all your bird touches. My Mum's maiden name was Bird, so I've collected bird figurines for many years now. Going to have to stop by my local Tuesday Morning.

    Have a blessed day,
    ~Kiki~

  6. You have such a lovely home. Love your church Cici. Reminds me of one I have (really a birdhouse) I need to use. I love to leave a light burning in the powder room when we have guests. I haven't been to Tuesday Morning in ages and I think I need to go after seeing your post.

  8. Lea, it's been a long time since I dropped in on anyone's blog, but I'm glad I stopped here on a whim. I, too, have a "thing" for churches as decor, and I love the end table. I remember going on the hunt for those exact requirements: right height, drawer, shelf below, and "fits in" w/ the rest of my cherry wood. When I found them, I grabbed them right up. Your Oriental rug is gorgeous, too!

  14. Lea your home is beautiful. I can definitely see you are a southern girl in your decorating. Very traditional style. Love it. You said your dad was a minister. What kind of church...just curious because I don't think the word minister is used frequently. I grew up in a church with a preacher or minister. (Church of Christ...still am) Anyway, lovely fluffing. I've got to get my spring fluffing done today! XO
