Weekend Edition

 I have been asked several times this week about my blog and why I haven't done an entry lately.  Well, well, well, can I just say that I have had very little time for blogging.  Blogging is a real source of joy for me and I miss it terribly, but there are just times when it has be way down on my list of priorities and now is one of those times.  So, I hope all my faithful followers will stick with me and not give up on me as I try to find balance in my life at this time.

First, let me give you an update on Daddy.  He has had somewhat of a set back since my last update in that he lost what strength he had regained in his feet and legs.  He had gotten to where he could bear some of his own weight and actually move his feet a little.  But, that is not the case now.  Of course, that is discouraging to all of us.  He has maintained his lower arm strength and the ability to move his hands and fingers.  He continues to feed himself, operate his TV remote, shave and open and turn on his Kindle.  These are all huge and while he is very slow with these acts, he is able to do them and we rejoice in that.  He is enjoying visitors more and seems to be adjusting more and more to the reality of his condition.

Secondly, I mentioned me trying to find balance.  That is my struggle right now.  I realize the need in this because Dad's condition is what it is and we will be dealing with it the rest of his life.  I struggle with guilt if I am in town and do not go and see him everyday.  Now, this is self inflicted guilt, he has certainly not made me feel guilty in any way.  I truly do not know how I could do any more than I do and missing a day or two a week would be a nice break.  I'm going to try and begin missing a day ever so often and I'm sure, once I do it a time or two, it will get easier.  The thing is, if I am not at the facility visiting him, I'm often tending to his business affairs.  That should get less in the weeks ahead but for now, it is all consuming.  Yes, life is indeed a balancing act and I haven't been doing a very good job lately but hopefully in the days ahead, I'll get it figured out.

Thirdly, my little Princess spent the day with me recently and she found the empty laundry basket and a plastic bowl to be so entertaining.  Isn't it amazing how kids can have all kinds of toys but the ones they seem to enjoy the most are just simple household items.  She is such a bright spot in our lives!

Fourthly, our little Prince will be 3 years old on Sunday. Just seems impossible!

Fifthly, Hubby and I will be headed to Las Vegas Sunday morning.  We will be attending a convention and will work in a little fun in the process.  I hear that Barry Manilow is there and I may have to check out tickets to see him.  I do love me some Barry! ~smile~

Meanwhile, thanks for stopping by and please continue your prayers for Dad.  We know that without your prayers and God's wonderful grace, we could not make it.  He gives us just enough for each day! Blessings my friends!

  1. I can't speak for any of your other followers, but I can assure you that I will be here ...

    It's frustrating when the responsibilities of our lives keep us from even taking a few minutes to do the things we enjoy ... yet when those responsibilities involve those we love dearly, they're not quite as burdensome.

    I'm disappointed to hear that your daddy had a set back. I'm praying that he'll make progress, even if it's 2 steps forward and then 1 step back.

    I know that those little ones of yours help you find the balance which seems so elusive.

    Enjoy your trip and your time away with your hubby. I'm praying that it will be a time of rest and refreshment for you both. {{hug}}

  5. I was wondering what was up, but your new normal is a heavy load. I know you love blogging, so I knew you wouldn't be quiet for no reason. So sorry about your dad's setback. That's very hard to take. As for your guilt, it's understandable but also understandable is the need for a day here and there to step back and do something that regenerates your soul, mind, and body so that you are stronger and more refreshed on the days you do visit him.

    BTW you look great in that picture with the Prince! As for Barry Manilow, I have to laugh. In college they used to tease me for liking his music. The guys called him "Barely Man-enough."

  6. Sorry about your Dad, but also glad he does still have some abilities to enjoy reading and feeding himself etc. I know about the guilt feeling, and you are right you have to find balance. If you take care of him every day you will wear out and not be strong enough to take care of anyone! Take care of yourself, and have someone else visit on the days you can't. Have a good time in Vegas.

  7. Good to hear from you. I totally understand the life getting in the way of blogging. I find myself there, too. So sorry about your dad, I know that is discouraging!

    Hope you have an amazing time in Las Vegas...looks like we may be headed to your neck of the woods very soon...Chris' Mamaw isn't doing well and it is just a matter of time. I hate that you probably won't be there.

  10. I am here and no plans to go anywhere. When life gets busy, especially with family, that is time to focus your time and attention there. And on yourself. Praying for your daddy. Asking for continual peace for you and the family.

  14. I'm so sorry to hear that your dad had a set back. I completely understand blogging taking a back burner to real life. Our loved ones come first, and that is the way it should be! As the first follower said, I can't speak for others, but I will be here when you get back also!!! Enjoy your trip to Vegas, and try to have a little fun without feeling guilty. I don't know you or your dad, but I bet he wouldn't want you to feel guilty, and he would want you to enjoy yourself. Keep us posted, and take lots of pics in Vegas to show when you get time.
