Miscellany Monday

The last Monday of January! How can that be?  2013 is going by at breakneck speed.  We'd better hang on for sure because we'll be talking about Christmas before we know it.  Meanwhile, we'll enjoy today and getting miscellaneous with Carissa.

First line of defense.........
Some of you may remember that I got my concealed weapon license about a year and a half ago.  Now, have I carried a concealed weapon since that time.  Nope! sure haven't, but I like knowing that I could if I wanted to.  But, Hubby brought me this Defense Spray a couple of weeks ago and it is in my purse and I will sure use it if I need to.  It is a great defense when you just need to stop someone (not bearing arms) and not kill them. (heaven forbid)  The face is the target and mainly the eyes.  It will stop someone so you can either run, get help or both.  I'm thinking that all women need to carry this with them at all times.  It's so easy to just hold in the palm of your hand while walking to your car on a parking lot and have your finger on the trigger ready to go.  Can I just say that I'm much more comfortable with this than my gun. ~smile~
A sick Princess.......
All she wanted to do was lay in her beanbag, so pitiful!
Our little Princess was feeling puny on Friday, so I kept her so that her Dad and Mom could go to work.  As the day progressed she felt worse and I called her parents and they decided it would be best to take her to the Dr. since it was Friday afternoon.  Well, good thing they did, our sweetheart has Type B flu.  She has felt rotten but is getting better and I'm just hoping that the rest of us don't get it.  I have had the flu shot, so guess this will be a good test to see if it works. ~smile~
An RV, a boat, a gun or a knife......
What better to do on a dreary, cold winter day than attend an RV, Gun and Boat Show?  And, that's exactly what Hubby and I did this past Saturday, along with a bazillion other folks.  There were "toys for men" of all ages! ~chuckle~  On one of the aisles I noticed a large gathering of folks grabbing tee shirts and getting them autographed by this guy.  I decided I had to know what was going on, so I weaseled my way through the crowd and asked someone nearby about all the excitement.  They said that this was Stephanie and Kris (pictured above)  from "Sons of Guns."  Well, I had no idea what she was talking about.  I soon found out that it was a hit TV show on the Discovery Channel and Stephanie and Kris were the "love birds" on the show.  Good grief, I must do a better job of keeping current on these things.~NOT~  Anyway, decided that our #1 son would probably love to have one of the tee shirts, so bought one and Kris and Stephanie signed it for me.  They were very amused that I had not ever heard of them and probably thought "what a sweet lil ole lady." ~sigh~

Threading..........
Okay ladies, if you have never heard of "threading" you need to.  I would definitely call it an art because the gals that do this, are highly skilled in my estimation.  I guess you could say it is the new "waxing."  I have had my eyebrows waxed for years but the gal that has done my for a long time has quit and I haven't found anyone else nearby to do them.  I noticed this shop in our mall call Threading and I saw that ladies were getting their eyebrows shaped up.  Well, on Saturday I decided that I needed to go and actually check it out for myself.  It had been way too long since my brows had been waxed and they were looking most shabby.  As you can tell from the above photos, it is all done with a spool of regular sewing thread and a twisting motion.  It was amazing and pretty much painless.  I will definitely be returning soon for another "threading."  FYI, it was $12 for both brows.

And, I leave you with this.......

  1. Good morning! That nasty flu is ALL over out here. Hope your grand daughter is feeling better, and the rest of you don't get it.

My daughter got her eyebrows "threaded" when she was in college, so for a few years I went and had it done with her. Here is what I think about that. It LOOKS wonderful and the girls are artists, and do a fabulous job. However, the first and second time I had it done, I thought it hurt BADLY! Tears ran unheeded down my cheeks. (eyes watered no matter what!) But! every time after that it hurt less and less until it didn't hurt at all. Maybe it is because I have particularly thick brows, and so therefore there was a lot to get into shape, and once they were in shape it was easy to maintain? After my daughter married and moved away I quit going. I have been tempted once or twice to take it back up again but I haven't. The place was ALWAYS packed, and ALWAYS sooo busy! Oh the things us gals do to keep ourselves looking good. ; ) Enjoy your day!

  2. I'm SO sorry to hear about your princess ... hopefully she'll feel better soon - and that the rest of you will be spared.

I've never heard of "threading" ... I don't even know if any place nearby offers threading ... I'll have to check into that.

  3. I was threaded twice and didnt like it. Results werent better than waxing, it hurt more, and i didnt like knwing her mouth germs and my eyes were so close! Plus it cost more than waxing, so my mind is made up, bu to each her own.

  6. Prayers for little one-my grandson had Type A & B flu before Christmas-not fun at all :(
Threading looks painful and never heard of it before.

  7. My two oldest Granddaughters have this done all the time. I'm just grateful mine don't ever need attention. I think my eyebrows stopped growing and moved to my upper lip:) I sure hope Princess is feeling better. Doesn't it break your heart to see them so sick. Your weekend sounds like just the right formula for a dreary day.

  8. We have a place at our mall that does threading and I've always wondered about it. Bless your little granddaughter's heart...I'm so sorry she's not feeling well an I pray the rest of you don't come down with the same virus.

  9. I've never threaded my eyebrows or even heard of it! You would probably think I have shabby eyebrows because I don't do anything to them except right in the middle between the two. Don't want to have a unibrow! Sorry your little one is ill. I'm getting over bronchitis and a sinus infection. There is so much yuck going around! Have a good week!

  10. Oh I use to carry around pepper spray when I went to college. My son and his wife have their concealed handgun and it looks like my daughter will also...what can I say, they got it from the grand daddy...who would have been at that gun and knife show also.

Oh I have seen that done...haven't had it done...

    poor thing...no fun being sick

  11. Well, you certainly lead an interesting life! I think it's a good idea to have that spray. However, I do remember I had some in the past but have no idea what I did with it. Maybe I need to get me some of that. When our school was on lock down about a month ago, a policeman spent the day on our campus. He told a few of us in the teacher's lounge that we should carry something like this for protection. Poor baby I hope she feels better soon. So many little ones are getting sick.

    Blessings and love,
    Debbie

  12. Do you need a permit to carry the spray? We are in the process of getting permits here...all our paperwork is in and the fingerprinting is done, just waiting on all the checks to be made.

Is it really painless? It doesn't look painless : ) Waxing is quick-just a couple of quick swipes. We have a place here that does it and it's always busy.

    Enjoy your day!

  13. Oh my...I love that you have your license to carry a concealed weapon. My mom is doing the same thing.

And I've always been so curious about the threading thing. I see them going to town on ladies when I do make it over to our mall on occasion. I would say it's an art too.....I've actually only waxed my eyebrows a handful of times my entire life.

Hope your little princess gets to feeling better soon!
