The Wednesday Medley - Happy National Cheese Day

Oh, I do love today's subject, cheese!  I'm not sure if it's not the food of choice for most everyone. It rates right up there with bacon. ~smile~

NATIONAL CHEESE DAY รข€“ June 4th

1.  National Cheese Day is Tuesday, rather than Wednesday, but I think we should celebrate cheese this week!!  Let's start by sharing your favorite cheese with us.  Which one is always in your fridge?

Oh, there's hardly cheese that I don't love.  I always have medium cheddar and Pepper Jake cheese in our refrigerator.

2.  What is your preference? Mild, Sharp, or Extra Sharp?  How do you use cheese most often?
I prefer mild and I use cheese mostly on sandwiches.  I eat a lot of grilled cheese but I also put a slice of cheese on any other sandwich that I might make.
3.  Cheesecake?  New York style or what other flavors would you rather have?

Oh, my goodness, YES!!!! Love cheesecake and if cherries and sauce are available, that's all the better.  I really do not care for any kind except the plain.
4.  When you do grilled cheese sandwiches, which cheese do you prefer to use and what condiments do you use, if any?

I have made all kinds of grilled cheese.  I've used Velvetta, cheddar, pepper jack, even Pimento cheese.  I have even used bacon bits sprinkled inside.  Bacon makes anything better as far as I'm concerned.  I LOVE grilled cheese sandwiches!!
5.  Number 5 on June 5th... Say happy birthday to my sister, Tammy!!

6.  Share something with us about your week. If it includes using cheese in a recipe, please also share that with us too!!

This Friday, June 6th, Hubby and I will be celebrating our 48th anniversary.  My goodness, that is a l-o-n-g time!  Thankfully our commitment to God and each other has seen us through each year.  I was 6 weeks shy of my 19th birthday and  didn't have a clue but Tommy was "older" and had a whole lot of patience with me those early years.  Otherwise, we might not have made it.  I was 1000 miles away from my family and missed them so painfully at times and cell phones, Facetime and all these neat ways of being connected were not available.  I was only able to talk to my Momma every other week for about 30 minutes.  I did a whole lot of letter writing.  Those were the days.  We have no big plans for the day but as we both said the other evening, "every day is a celebration at this point."

Life has been good!

  1. Congratulations and wishes for a very happy anniversary! Oh, those early days...I had just turned 20 when we got married and I knew nothing, either. When I look back, I am stunned by what a young thing I was in so many ways. And like you, I was over 1000 miles from home and wrote lots and lots of letters. I'm glad to be close to home these days, but I sure miss those letters! Have a blessed day!

  2. Happy 48th Anniversary to you and Tommy. I well remember you back in those early days, and think you hid your homesickness pretty well. I wonder if moving away from our parents might have made us more reliant on our husband which probably saved a lot of marriages. Yes, every day is a celebration! Dick and I plan to celebrate a lot more years together as well.

  5. A very happy anniversary to you and congratulations! My marriage took me about 700 miles from home so I definitely relate to the long distance phone calls and letters. Every day I made the trip to the mailbox in hopes of hearing from people back home. It is still a delight to me to find a card in the mailbox these days and so I enjoy sending cards to others hoping it bring the same delight. Blessings! Your photo is so cute!

  6. Happy Anniversary to you and Tommy! I adore that sweet picture you posted of your wedding day...I can only imagine how hard those early days were with no close family around. I love cheese so very much to but I have just had to take most of it our of my diet. My pancreas does NOT like to digest fatty food...a very little amount is all I can do these days....and eating a piece of pizza will tear me up! Of course, I will do what I have to do to but I don't have to be happy about it, right? Enjoy the rest of your Wednesday, Lea!

  11. Congratulations!! Happy 48th anniversary and may you be blessed with many more! Thanks for joining the Medley today! It seems we all love cheese in one form or another. If you haven't tried Palmetto Cheese spread, look for it because it is SO much better than pimento cheese (which is delicious).
