Mirror, Mirror on the Wall

It's time for Friday Favorites and Company Girl Coffee and since a blogging buddy asked me to share about my makeup, and since makeup has always been a favorite for me, I'm going to probably share more than you even care to know.  But, I'm always interested in what makeup items other women wear and what little tips they may have.  I'm always up for learning something new, especially in the makeup and hair department.  So let me dive right in............

First, let me say, I do not and have not ever used just one brand of makeup or skin care.  I have tried and it just does not work for me.  I like certain brands of one thing and certain brands of another item.  So, I guess you would call mine a Hodgepodge, but it works for me, or might I say, I'm happy with it and I hope it works for me. ~laugh~

It all starts at my makeup mirror and I have to be seated.  I just cannot "get it right" standing up. ~smile~ I use the regular side of my mirror while doing my face and the magnified side when I do my eyes and I use the daylight setting on the lighting.

I put on Prevage MD (not Prevage, there is a difference)first and follow that with Neova Day Therapy with sunscreen.  Prevage MD has copper peptids that supposedly (according to my Dermatologist) are very good at keeping the spunk in aging skin.~yea~  Once that has settled in it is time for my foundation.  I use MAC Studio Tech foundation (it's a powdery base that I apply with a dry sponge). I also use MAC concealer on a few spots but very scantily.  That is followed by, now brace yourself for this, Cornsilk Powder (no color matte).  Yep, for those of you my age,  you know that it has been around for ages and ages but it is my favorite powder in the whole wide world.  I have tried a bazillion other powders and always go right back to my tested and tried Cornsilk.  I can't even find it in the store anymore so I order it off the internet.  It's about $5-$7 a container.  I love the smooth, matte finish that it gives my skin.  Then the icing on the cake is Silver Dust powder by MAC.  It is a glistening powder and a little goes a long way and I just lightly dust my entire face with it for a nice glow.

Next comes the color, the fun part!  I am fairly basic when it comes to eye shadows, nothing to "out there" for me.  I start with a silky cream colored powder shadow by MAC  all over my eye lid  and the eye shadows in the compact are by Mary Kay and they are some soft browns, grey silver and a soft denim color.  They are all I wear (not at the same time).  I use all 3 of the brushes in the above picture to apply my shadows.  The one in the middle is what I use to cover my entire lid with in the beginning and I also use it to blend my shadows when I am finished applying.  I use the one to the left to apply the colored shadow and the one on the right for the darker color in the corner of my lid crease.

I have basic black and brown eyeliner by MAC in pencil form for my upper lids and then I use a bit of a brown and black sparkle eyeliner on my lower lid by Lorac.  Some soft brown brow powder on my eyebrows and lots and lots of Mary Kay and Loreal blackest black mascara.  I reapply my mascara 3-4 times until I get it as thick as I want it to be.  Not "goopy" just lush and thick. ~grin~

I then apply my blush and we all have our ways of applying it. I just try to make sure that I do not have two big red circles on my cheek.   I have a pinkish blush and a brownish blush and those two work with whatever I am wearing (again, not at the same time).  I use a Platinum Pink Shimmer Brick (left above) and Bronze Shimmer Brick (right above) by Bobbi Brown first and then come back with a more bold blush (Gentle by MAC) over it. Can you tell I like shimmer?  I try to minimize the shimmer because as I said, a little goes a long way and I do not want to look like a light bulb when I walk into a room.  I just want a nice healthy glow.

Then comes the lip liner and lipstick.  I have two colors of lipstick and two colors only.  They may vary from time to time but one is always from the red family and one is always from the brown family.  Currently, I am wearing New York Red by MAC.

And, the brown I'm using is Downtown Brown by Mary Kay
I line my lips with Brick lip liner by MAC when using either red or brown.  It works well with both.

The "finished product" looks like this...........(fyi, I used the brown tones in shadows and blush in this picture) And, just in case you are wondering, it takes me no more than 10 minutes to apply my makeup.  It took me 4 times as long to do this entry. ~laugh~

I am not sure what that stain looking spot is between my two front teeth, but oh, well, I assure you it's not there in real life ~grin~
Now, consider yourself lucky that you are seeing such a close up of me.  I mean, do you see all those character lines??? I have not found a makeup that covers those up but that is life and I'm just going to embrace it! ~big laugh~ And, besides, I have the joy of knowing that when I get to my eternal home I will not ever have to think about any of this.  I will have the perfectly made face 24/7 through no help of my own. ~Yipee!~

I will fill you in on my skin care, hair products and tools and the style of  clothing that I prefer in a later post.  Thanks Cindy from Notes in the Key of Life,  for asking me to do this, I enjoyed it so much and hopefully a few of you did too. ~wink~

  9. Beautiful! You look fantastic. I always used Cornsilk and wondered what happened to it! I've been using the only other brand available...now I will know to look for it online.

  10. You look simply beautiful! And even in a very close up. I cannot stand to look in the magnified portion of my mirror nowadays. :)

I also use a mixture and have a few of the MAC and Bobbi Brown products you mentioned. My staple for lipstick lately has been a Bobbi Brown one called Heather Pink. Despite its name, I can wear it with either red or pink.

Thanks for the beauty tips from a beautiful woman of God.

    Blessings and love,
    Debbie

  11. You are gorgeous!

I've gotten pretty lazy in my mid-life when it comes to make up. I do ware mineral foundation and concealer everyday, a little eyeliner, mascara and lip gloss. I hardly wear eye shadow unless I am going out. It just takes too long to make it look good. Probably not true.

And, can you believe I use to be a Mary Kay consultant and I don't like to play with makeup?

  12. Oh what a fun post!! Okay, so I actually am a makeup newbie. I'm fascinated by what it does and all that, but I have not actually owned my own makeup until this past summer. Yes, in all my 31 years, the first time! And it was because my girls were the flowergirls in my friends' wedding. I figure people will be looking at me tagging along behind those two girls. =p I seriously had no clue, so I just bought a kit. I didn't know they had these starter kits until I went looking. =p It was helpful since it had everything I needed, but it would be fun to try out other brands that friends have recommended too. I just use Bare Escentuals right now. I think Maybelline for mascara. I have no clue about eye shadow, but I think for my wedding, someone had gotten me something from Sephora. I should probably get a better mirror too. =p

  13. It all looks beautiful, YOU look beautiful!

I'm a makup 'junkie'... always trying new things and yet sticking to the old ones most of the time. I told my hubby I began with a fresh palette every morning. :)

    FUN post!
