Lemons and Other Stuff

Well, I bet that title got your attention.  It is a bit weird but it's exactly what this post is about....

When Easter is over and I take down my Easter decor, I pull out all my lemon decor.  I LOVE all things lemon and decided about 3 years ago that lemon decor would be my spring and summer touches..

There's something so refreshing about lemons and of course, their bright color is so happy!

And, this year I added my tiered tray and I am sooooo pleased with how it looks.  I had the small lemons that worked perfectly and found the greenery and birds on Amazon, and the cute signs on Etsy.

And, now for the other "stuff"..........

I love cookies and now that I have two ovens it makes baking them such a breeze.  Last Saturday I decided to make a batch of Cowboy Cookies.  It seems that Laura Bush is who made these famous and this recipe says to use 1/4 cup of cookie dough per cookie.  Well, guess Laura did this because "everything's bigger in Texas."  But, I sure did not do that.  The recipe says it will make 24 but I made mine using a cookie scoop and I got 82 cookies out of the recipe and they were about 4 bite cookies.  That is the perfect size as far as I'm concerned.  Now, for a hint should you decide to make these.  I used my electric mixer to mix up all the dough and then I got out a large mixing bowl and I poured the chocolate chips, the pecans, the oatmeal and the coconut into the bottom of it.  I mixed all those together and then dug a well in the middle and I put the dough in.  I then put some disposable gloves on, sprayed them with Pam and then begin mixing all the ingredients in with my hands.  The recipe says to stir them in.  Well, let me assure you, this isn't possible without a whole lot of work.  I was able to work it all in with my hands and get it all mixed up very well.  I was then ready to scoop them on to the cookie sheets and bake them.  After they were cooled, I put them in freezer ziploc bags where they will stay until I need them or want them.  Cookies freeze so well and I love having a stash ready to pull out and enjoy.  Now, I  likely told you way more than you really wanted to know.  Sorry!

I've been in a cooking mood this week, which I assure you is a rarity.  I enjoy baking a lot more than regular cooking.  Anyway, on Tuesday I made up a big pot of spaghetti sauce.  It's just as easy to make a lot as it is a little so I always make a lot.  I had enough for us to have 4 meals, so I put these 3 containers in the freezer and they'll be there whenever I decide to fix it.  Again, I love a "freezer stash."

And, this is really random but I LOVE using birds in my home decor.  I found these towels just before we moved in this house and found the perfect spot for them in our guest bath.  They are just beautiful and make me smile every time I see them.  Then, last week, while browsing Amazon I found these stretched canvas bird prints.  I got so excited because I just knew they would be perfect with those towels.  And, they were!

And, this little girl took gymnastics this past year and they had a little show of sorts this past Saturday morning to show us their tricks.  She was so cute and obviously was quite pleased with herself.  This was her first ever extra curricular activity.

I know, doesn't this just make you want to cry.  Coleman got his first "fat lip" Wednesday evening at church.  When I received this picture I could hardly stand it.  It looks so painful!  But,  it's likely not his last one. Bless his little heart!

And, there you have it for Lemons and Other Stuff!

  2. I pinned Laura Bush's cookie recipe on Pinterest but haven't made them yet. I tend to always go to my recipe for choc. chip which everyone seems to love. I have a question...when you freeze the cookies do they come out soft??? Seems to me they would no longer be crisp. I really like soft, chewy cookies but hubby doesn't. Your lemon and birds decor is lovely. And you definitely have "the touch" for making everything looks so appealing.

  3. Poor little guy - that reminds me when Jack was about that age and got a big goose egg on his forehead. I love lemons in decorating - so fresh looking. Those cookies look delicious. I can't imagine how big they would be from the original directions!

  5. Your tiered tray looks SO GOOD! I had originally thought about going with a lemon theme this summer as well, but I've since changed my mind! I spent over $50 today at Hobby Lobby buying things for it! I remember those precious gymnastics days! Alise was in "Diaper Daredevils" and she loved it! I was worn out! Happy Friday!

  7. I kept thinking "me, too" while reading this post. I, too, feel accomplished when I have a freezer stash on hand - it makes me wonder why I don't always do so. And I, too, love to use birds in my home decor. I have bird figurines, bird prints, bird tea towels, etc. They are so lovely and charming. I even have a set of red Christmas birds that keep making the cut year after year for Christmas decorating. Your cookies look yummy. I am going to try the recipe. TFS

  9. Well I love your lemons and the 'other stuff' too! What a brilliant idea to use lemons for spring/summer decor! I agree, making big batches of things is smart . . . you spend all that time making it, it's nice to have extra to freeze.

He is usually so full of smiles. And that little gymnasts is just too cute. Enjoy your weekend, Lea and I'll see you again on Monday.

  14. I love all things lemon too! One year I hosted a small event for some ladies on my front porch called, "When Life hands you lemons". I decorated with all things lemon and it was really cute. You are right Lea. It's just as easy to make a big batch than a small batch. I always make too much of anything to begin with. Awe...so sad about the lip but you are right....won't be the last time probably. Hugs and blessings, Cindy
